richard1s Posted February 23, 2014 Author #151 Share Posted February 23, 2014 I will say this: The priests who know me would know that I am not a nudist. I wouldn't want any pointing out my short comings! Badda-boom, pssh; where were you Father when I was making my confession? I never lucked out and got the Priest with a sense of humor! serendipity1499 Posted February 23, 2014 #152 Share Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) We did the B2B with the second cruise bring the nude one. So we were also at Half Moon Cay on the 8th although we are nudist we did wear our suits to the beach. It was much better on the 10th went we wore our birthday suits.Back to Port Everglades while waiting in one on the lounges that over looked the pier (this being the first cruise) talked to three ladies that were looking at the people on the pier. They were trying to spot the nudist that would board for our second week. They had never seen a nudist and wasn't sure what one looked like. So we waved our hands and said here we are. For one week we were sailing with them and they never spotted us. :D:D Now that is very funny.. It reminds me of a story told on Cruise Critic several years ago.. Apparently, a posters elderly Aunt had gone on a cruise with two other ladies.. None of them had ever been on a cruise before.. One of the ladies first name was "Dorothy".. One day they saw in the Newsletter that the "Friends of Dorothy" were having a get together.. They were very surprised that there would be so many "Dorothy's" on board but they decided to go to the reception & meet them all..:) When they got there they still did not make the connection, however everyone was welcoming the three older ladies & they had a wonderful time.. When they got home & told their stories everyone was hysterical.. :D:D Wish I could find that post.. Rare cbr663 Posted February 23, 2014 #153 Share Posted February 23, 2014 For example, if the comments on your post were indicative of your evening conversation at a dinner table - and we were seated with you, we probably would be sitting somewhere else the following evening. Thank-you. That would certainly make things much more wonderful for us. Though, I have a suspicion that you are quite use to playing musical chairs in the dining rooms. Jobeth66 Posted February 23, 2014 #155 Share Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) For anyone who hasn't been around nudists/naturists, we're a pretty friendly and sociable lot, and nobody is "looking" at you, nor is anyone judging you. In fact, I'm much more comfortable with my body when I'm naked than when I'm squeezed into a swimsuit. (It's also nice to know I can go take a dip in the pool and never have to worry about having a dry suit to put on ;) ) Many of us are members of AANR (American Association for Nude Recreation) and many of the nude recreation areas strictly abide by AANR rules. I've never been to a nudist venue that /didn't/ require using towels, and I've never seen anyone "forget", nor have I seen anyone "refuse" to do so - those people would be escorted off premises without question. Even in our own home or RV, we always put down towels. I don't know of any nudists that don't do the same. The campgrounds we go to are all family recreation areas - plenty of children who are growing up knowing that people are all different shaped and I've found that children of nudists seem to have fewer body issues. Nudism isn't about sex or swinging, it's about being yourself with people who are comfortable being themselves. CI66774 Posted February 23, 2014 #157 Share Posted February 23, 2014 What I'm saying is that if the cruiseline tells someone what a group consists of they would be liable. People can be as discriminatory as they want...companies cannot. Ah Doug - not quite accurate. Companies may not illegally discriminate. Not all "discrimination" is unlawful - there is a difference. BeagleOne Posted February 24, 2014 #160 Share Posted February 24, 2014 I've said this before. It is fine if they say there is a group, but not if they say the composition of the group. It may not be fine with YOU if the cruise line discloses the name/composition of the group to potential passengers, but it is NOT discrimination if the cruise line does so. It is merely objective information about the cruise.
WhansaMi Posted February 24, 2014 #161 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Oh' date=' I think some people are so judgmental of folks who are different from them or believe differently than they do that they assume they aren't 'normal', whatever that is, and think they will look freaky. We sat at a table for 8 one time where everyone was completely and totally different- age, background, lifestyle, absolutely everything. We had absolutely nothing in common and it was the best and most fun table we ever sat at. One couple was elderly and they were appalled that another couple was gay. They literally refused to look at or speak to them the whole week. So the other 6 of us ignored the 2 of them and had a blast.[/quote'] You know, we ask for tables for 8-10 all the time; I've never thought to ask to sit with the gay guys. I wonder if I could? Of course, anyone would have to be better than the arrogant blowhard we had at our table on the Ryndam last week. I actually found myself dreading going to dinner. His in-laws were nice, and the other couple were nice, but he was one of those people who believed he knew more about everything than anyone else. At one point his FIL looked at me and rolled his eyes!

Don't know about orientation, but we did ask once to not be seated with the Dutch. :o We are Dutch ourselves and after a few dinners with other Dutch people (and the nagging about prices that usually happens, sigh ) we had a lovely dinner with a British and a Canadian Couple! Was very happy I asked. Next couple nights I had build up tolerance again for those types of questions and comments, so we didn't ask again. We had open seating but had a reserved table for 6. iancal Posted February 24, 2014 #163 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Yup. We had the same. We live in Canada. We had someone tell us ad nauseam how bad our gun control laws were and how awful our universal health care system was (dirty hospitals, nurses wore burkas, cannot select own physician and on and on and on). Sad thing was I do not think that he had ever been north of the Carolinas. We had another lecture the following night on US politics. We did not stay for the third night's lecture...it was in all probability on religion. This was the last or second to last time we did assigned seating in the MDR. I love sitting with international groups! That was one of the major problems I had on our river cruise -- a whole bunch of Americans, right before the presidential election. Most seemed to have this belief that *everyone* there, of course, would believe as they do, because anyone with a brain would believe that way, right??? I have been involved with gay rights since the 1980's, and have many friends who are gay. One of the things I've always been impressed with was that HAL, since I have cruised on it, had Friends of Dorothy, and now GLBT, meetings on the schedule. I would love to be able to ask to sit with some gay folks, not only because I have an interest in this area, but maybe my butt would sit in a seat that one of those people who are not kind to gay folk would otherwise be sitting in. It is amazing how rude people can be. As a southerner, I apologize! I don't understand why people aren't willing to be kind. I can sit and have a good time with people who believe differently than I do. On one of our recent cruises, we had a *great* time with one couple, and have even been in contact since. I got the sense that they might have different core beliefs than we do (and have since confirmed that), but it is my belief that if people who think differently only have positive interactions with those who believe as they do, no one will ever even begin to grow in their understanding of other people, or the world. It is through building positive relationships with others, and being willing to talk *and* listen respectfully that we can grow.
iancal Posted February 24, 2014 #166 Share Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) No need to apologize. It can happen anywhere. The gentleman could have just as easily hailed from another country. It was not his county or state of origin that was the problem. It was his mouth. It made us appreciate the other wonderful people we have met on cruise ships. We did feel sorry for his wife though. She was clearly embarrassed. Edited February 24, 2014 by iancal
Cruising-along Posted February 24, 2014 #167 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Although it's not for us, I did meet a nudist couple on one of my HAL excursions on our last cruise. We got to talking on the bus, and I have to admit it was hard for me to hide my surprise. :D She brought it up, I don't remember how -- and I noticed she watched my reaction closely....I must have passed the test, since she stayed friendly the rest of the day. :D This couple was the most ordinary looking couple you'd ever see, he was ex-military and she was a retired school teacher. Open your mind. HAL is no different than any other cruise Line or land based resort. Nudist are ALL around and are catered to by many resorts, beaches, camp grounds and cruise lines. Nudism is a Billion Dollar industry and growing. There have been over 2 nude cruises offered every year for the past 25 years by one charter company alone. That pace has picked up in recent years. They have charted almost every major line. We nudists are here to stay. You don't have to join us just know that we are around.
