Sailing on Granduer of the Sea in June and was wondering will the casino on the ship be open in the evening while in port? We do not leave until 11:30 pm. I look forward to playing roulette after dinner and also the penny slots. If the casino is not open, is there a casino close to the pier?

Thanks,

Jackie

You didn't mention which port. In Nassau the casino opens around 7:00 when the ship leaves at midnight.

What port? There is legislation that is supposed to be in effect sometime soon that will allow the casino to be open for certain hours on board while in Bermuda on stays of two days or more. Also, Bermuda has no casinos.

But otherwise, no - the casinos will not be open on board when a ship is in port. Also need to know what port to determine which of them would have a casino nearby.

My understanding, although I may be wrong was Bermuda changed the law last October. If a ship was in port for at least one overnight it can open 9pm until 5am

They were losing too many cruise ships.

I would love to know if this is indeed in effect now.

Yes - I believe it was voted on as you indicate - but not sure if that was passed as "final" or when it actually will be in effect.

And while the correct interpretation by my statement of "two days" when talking of a cruise could also mean "two nights", I actually meant that literally as two days with one overnight. Thanks for correctly stating the time frame more clearly - your wording is better!

Grandeur is permanently in Baltimore MD (at least for the next few years). So no, the casino will not be open. I am surprised she is leaving so late. She usually leaves at 4 (I live close and often drive by the port and she is always gone early). Unless you mean Nassau?

No problem. I have not been on that cruise but did vacation in Bermuda several years ago. They knew the casino issue was causing an issue back then and were planning on building one. I just can't believe after all these years it is still not built!!!!

Hopefully someone that has recently sailed that itinerary will be able to confirm if the new legislation has indeed taken effect.

Sometimes the cruises all run together, but I think I remember the casino was open on our Bermuda cruise in May 2012. I thought it was unusual the casino was open while we were in port.

I know that doesn't answer the OP question, but just a casino thought. :)

Well of course I was wrong, bad memory.

I was on Explorer last October, we were docked for 2 nights, and the casino wasn't opened. The cruise season for Bermuda doesn't start until April. From what I remember reading last fall, the casino's should be open starting with the 2014 season.

She isn't talking about initial departure from Baltimore. She is talking about the port call into Nassau.

We'll be in Aruba next Wednesday on Adventure of the Seas and don't sail until 9pm. Anyone know if the casino will be open before 9:30pm?

Unlikely. They have to be a certain distance away. I don't recall the casino being open when we were in Aruba, although there was a casino very close to the ship when we were there.

They will be ready and raring to go though;)! They always open as quick as possible:)

I was on the same cruise last year, can't remember when the casino opened but I'm having my morning coffee from my "Aruba" Starbucks mug as I read the forum! Great memories

Years ago when the ship stayed until 10:00pm, they opened the casino before sailing. When we were there and the ship left at 7 or 8, it didn't open. Nine pm, is kind if in between, so who knows. I wouldn't count on it, though.

Hi all,

We will be on the Enchantment 3 night, can anyone tell me the hours the casino will be open each day? I assume it will be open the first night, will it stay open Sat morning before we reach Nassau? Close in Nassau and reopen while in Cococay? Thanks.

First day it opened at 5:30.

Next day Nassau - it was open from about 9-11:30 a.m. Then it reopened at 7:00 p.m.

On CocoCay day it was open all day. Not sure what time it opened in the a.m. - I would suspect around 9:00 a.m.

Very nice to know that there's a Starbucks in Aruba! My DH collects Hard Rock t-shirts (one located in Aruba) and my DD collects Starbucks cups. This will be a win/win port!!!! Now if only they'd let me go to the casino............
