Divina extreme reviews, is it the Divina, or the Reviewers!

Yay! We sail in 7 weeks, and I can't wait! I think I am going to absolutely tinkle!

 

I have heard from dozens of folks these past few weeks, who have just returned from their Cruises on The Divina, via email and phone calls, and all have given her a resounding thumbs up! Yes, there were some quirks, (Not Travesties!) but it has been my experience, everything has quirks in my own daily life, on or off the high seas. All who I spoke to are sailing on her again!

 

I just want to have fun and wallow in childlike anticipation of my cruise with others who are as excited as myself. I want to learn, in a nice way, the avenues of a journey, that perhaps someone else has taken. I want to compare notes to others on my same journey, only to later live them together. That's what a roll call is for. I desire to provide information to new folks joining the board, mindful that I was the new kid in school once too, but I am still learning. And most importantly, I don't know it all.

 

I love to find the humor in everything, at my expense usually, and tell fun stories of my experiences. Truth is, after all, stranger than fiction, ergo reality television. I am an over the top kinda guy, in my fun and outrageous behavior on board a ship, and that opinion is shared by the hundreds of new friends we make each year on our cruises.

 

I frankly don't want to be discouraged, degraded, put down, criticized or maligned simply because I choose to travel on a particular ship, especially by one who has never ever sailed on her. That's why I am on my new "Pinky Up" Campaign. When I drink anything, my pinky is up, to remind me to be positive!

 

The cruise industry is rapidly changing, some changes are for the better, but then, for Cruise Ship Purists, sadly, some of many cruise line's changes have eliminated long standing traditions and started new trends that are disturbing to some. By the way, I love fresh squeezed OJ, but MIO or Crystal Lite drops in my water are just fine too!

 

I can just imagine a first time cruiser googling their particular cruise and happening upon some of these threads. I would be scared to death by some of the posts and threads I have seen. Fortunately, there are monitors that have a "Delete" button, for which I am eternally grateful for!

 

I choose the Gorgeous Divina to sail on, and so have you.

So true. Last year on a land vacation I went to a Hotel reception in the middle of the night to very politely ask for a room change, due to my lack of sleeping when I hear noises. Next day they moved us to a suite room.

 

Of course we were lucky, but asking nicely did the trick. Some people think they get the best results by screaming and yelling. Respect should always go both ways.

We have booked the Divina for 2 weeks, back-to-back in the Yacht Club September 2014. We will be travelling from the UK.

 

Before I committed to the cruise I took a sneaky week with MSC around the Canary Islands last month. My expectations were low but it was amazing! A lot of the the moaning comments from American guests makes sense to me, having traveled extensively with work and working for an American company.

 

If you have travelled to continental Europe you will understand the difference in service approach. I personally loved it. Its is basically 'more gritty.'

 

There is an Italian restaurant near me and its amazing, I have never been there without someone in the family that runs it having a row with another member of the team. Its the 'Italian Flair!'

 

One last thing... I'll let you all into a secret.... The USA is the only nation that cremates bacon in a nuclear powered deep frier, the rest of the world eats it unfossilised. I like it both ways. I hope the commenter didn't go near Parma Ham, they'd have been emailing the CDC! (Italians are also not obsessed with eggs having white shells and having them fried under personal supervision!)

 

We can't wait if We're honest! And I've got 6 months to watch people or rather person, (you know who you are,) typing illegible dross in Pigeon English!!!

A true story...

 

I was on the Jade and met an African American Woman approx 25 years old with an ass the size of the back of a London Bus in the elevator.

 

After admiring her Crocs, I politely asked her if she was enjoying her cruise? She frowned and said.... 'Not sooo murrrch, The foods no so fressshhhh'

 

I was surprised and asked what had she eaten that was bad, the salad? the fruit?

 

I liikeee my wafffelsss freshhhh, cookedd while i warrrtttchhh. thesee wafflesss wassss coooked beeforeeee i wasss therrr.

 

Oh really, I replied...

 

'HMMMMMM UMMMMMM' with a super serious face.

 

I kid you not!! It was at that point many of the comments on here made sense to me.

I love the comment directed to the Bacon Hater.....and as I have said before, Jerome, not being satisfied with the preparation of the bacon on one such buffet asked kindly, to have the bacon "Cooked Up" Crispy for him, and they did....the darn folks brought him a mile high plate of perfectly cooked and crisp bacon....and then did it every morning....and word got out and they did it in the restaurant too......wherever Jerome was, he got bacon, and an additional 10 pounds of baggage weight.

 

I know that service like this exists on The Divina....and we are willing and more than excited to allow them to WOW us.

I used to wonder if I was actually on the same ship as some folk when I heard them ranting about this and that being terrible and the bad attitude of the crew. I would reply that I'd never experienced the rudeness they were ranting about. Occasionally someone would not understand me, and we resolved that no problem with a smile and a laugh and me rewording what I wanted and speaking clearer. I worked 27 years with the general public and I know how unpleasant some get at times.

 

There is a growing bad that think the more rude and loud theybare the more likely their demands will be meant. It's like an adult version of a 2 year old temper tantrum....I'm going to scream and make a fuss until you give me what I want. I'm not bing to listen to reason, I only want what I want...... When I was the manager of 9 branches of a retail bank, that only got them the bare minimum, it sometimes even got their accounts closed and them escorted from the place by security. Those that politely explained they had an issue and the problems it was causing them, had us all bending over backwards to not just sort things but try to make it up to them.

 

It's this attitude, I think is a major contributing factor to some of these incidents.

 

Some people need to choose who to argue with. There is no point arguing with a member of the bar staff about the rate of a service charge or the brand of drinks stocked, they have no power to change it, so why bother. Saw a recent comment about someone observing a passenger yelling at bar staff over the cabin steward????

The Divina's reviews will go up as we here in the states gain more first hand knowledge of her, and what she has to offer! Many will return to cruise on her because they like what she has to offer! Thus the % of favorable reviews will go up!

Imagine someone going on a HAL ship wanting a Carnival experience, or the opposite? The reviews would be terrible! That won't happen very often because these lines, and most of their ships are so well known to us here! When you cruise these 2 lines you know what you're getting!

I think what could be interesting is as MSC makes little changes to enhance the cruise experience to the North American market with the Divina, how will these changes affect the Europeans who've cruised on MSC in Europe? Will they like it or not! (like our well done bacon, yum:D)

I have to say I got a bit of a shock several years ago when I booked an 11 night round trip out of FLL. It didn't feel like the product I was used to. I'd previously done a repo to the US and a few European cruises. This was at a time they had not made so many changes to suit the US market. It wasn't so much the whats as the onboard vibe. Yes I thought dinner was so early, didn't mind seeing corned beef hash make an appearance at breakfast or a fewer other changes. I put some of the different feel down to passenger demographics. Normally age group and nationality is pretty mixed with young people with and without kids, middled aged and some older. There were significantly more older people. I think they'd been filling spare capacity left over from European and US bookings with bargain prices for Floridian retires who had no idea they'd booked an Italian ship with Italian ways and a lot of European pax. It didn't go down very well. Got nearly mowed down a few times with a disgruntled pensioner in a mobility scooter in a strop over foreign stuff!

 

Gues if I were to consider cruising out of the US again, I'd be better prepared for expected changes via this forum and MSC now seem to be attracting a wider spectrum of people from the US, although I guess with shorter holidays in the Ud, 11 day trips will still have more retirees.

 

Conversely US passengers experiencing the Divina and enjoying it, may also get a bit of a shock if they book another MSC cruise on another ship sailing elsewhere, and are expecting the Divina experience.

Well I, for one, am anticipating a European experience and will be grateful for it. I'm a senior retired US citizen with time on my hands but with considerable experience traveling in Europe. I think it's great that I don't have to pay the exorbitant airfare to feel like I'm in the Med. Bring it on!!!

I'm making myself bacon right now. I am using a microwave bacon tray and there is a very fine (few seconds) line between cooked crispy and blackened/burnt. Lol!

 

I have to laugh at the American cruiser generalizations I am reading on here and other MSC threads. Interesting to read others' perspectives on us.

 

Here's a few generalizations in reverse. Why do Europeans not wait in line for anything? Why the pushing and shoving and jockeying for position? Aren't we all going to get there eventually? I promise, the buffet food will not disappear, and if it does, they'll bring more.

 

Why do Europeans bum rush the elevators when the doors open? More people can get on if you wait and let those exiting off first.

 

What's the European obsession with drinking bottled water by the freighter load? This is an environmental nightmare!

 

Maybe we Americans are just angry that we have to work for 50 years to get just a fraction of the vacation Europeans enjoy.

P.s we drink municipal water over here in the UK, not sure if you are aware but you can't drink the tap water in some continental EU countries. ( that may be why!)

To be fair since you won the Second World War for us we've been angry about it.

 

Not that you'd know because we are either tightly wound, excessively polite, or absolutely hammered. :p

 

I do admire the American work ethic. You guys work hard for your dreams and paid vacation time is a premium for you.

 

Meanwhile we get 20 days plus 6 bank holidays paid leave. By law. And, funnily enough, I'm spending every single one of them this year on an MSC ship.

 

In all seriousness I've been to America four times totalling 10 weeks in 6 different states (the fifth is in August when Divina docks from Rio in Miami) and in all that time I have never encountered anyone rude or nasty. Not one. That's some going. You're good people.

Gues if I were to consider cruising out of the US again, I'd be better prepared for expected changes via this forum and MSC now seem to be attracting a wider spectrum of people from the US, although I guess with shorter holidays in the Ud, 11 day trips will still have more retirees.

 

Conversely US passengers experiencing the Divina and enjoying it, may also get a bit of a shock if they book another MSC cruise on another ship sailing elsewhere, and are expecting the Divina experience.

 

Some things take actual experience of doing it yourself!
