Yes! Sailed on her in 1992.

She was a beautiful ship inside and out, but got tons of new cabins crammed inside her and lots of other interior changes for the Aussie market. :(

She was my favorite ship until she got sent to OZ.

Hi,

Yes, I cruised on the original Regal Princess back in 1995 (seven-day Southern Caribbean departing from San Juan). This was a particularly good cruise that I remember well. It was an elegant ship with spacious cabins. I am sailing aboard the new Regal Princess in June.

I too sailed on her (and her sister the original Crown) in the early 90's - love those ships and wish Princess would bring back smaller ships with none of the "bells & whistles" that are on the ships today. Nothing to do but enjoy being on the ocean!

Actually a little history about the Regal Princess - she was actually an unnamed new build along with the old Crown Princess (1990) for Sitmar Cruises based in Los Angeles. When Pirncess bought out Sitmar Cruises in 1988 they got both new builds along with recently completed Star Princess (1989) which was going to be named Fair Majesty for Sitmar. The Regal was named/christened (Godmother to the Regal) in New York City by former Prime Minister of Britain, Margaret Thacher. The forward top of the ship had a domed lounge/casino sort of shaped like the head of dolphin; however, the concept (by artist Renzo Piano) although original never was duplicated on another ship except it's twin the Crown.

We sailed our first full transit of the Panama Canal on the Regal. She was a beautiful ship. Last saw her when we were visiting Sydney prior to a cruise. She still looked lovely from the outside while sailing in Oz.

Ahh the good old days. Miss Regal Princess as I used to try to sail her regularly. She was an excellent ship, sailed like a lady, great interiors and upper decks. I'm happy that I had the chance to experience her in her hey-day...

Hi Billy and Charlies Mum...

DH and I sailed on The old Regal Princess in 1998..Canada and Alaska....never ever thinking she would eventually come down under to live..

.Since becoming Pacific Dawn, I have another 14 cruises up on her...and still love her.... yes things have changed over the years, but they have also changed on other Ships as well.

BTW, the Tiger is still there, just moved to another position...

just my 5cents worth.

kind regards, Lorraine :):)

Although my husband and I no longer cruise with P&O, we absolutely love Pacific Dawn - we would love to have seen what she was like as Regal Princess. She was his first ship and my first after a 22 year break. We love the classic design of her and the interior.

We sailed her in 2003, Copenhagen to New York. We sailed the Prins Christian Sund thru Greenland, the whistle sounding at every turn. What a beautiful day, bright & sunny. The crew told us that we (and they) were lucky because it was usually missed due to fog. That's where we were buzzed by a helicopter until the Captain gave him three blasts of the horn.

Speaking of whistles & fog, after we left Belfast there was constant heavy fog, until one night it was bright & clear. The navigator's notice promised the closest approach of Mars in 1,000 years so I went for the camera. Five minute round trip, back to the top deck, & there was the fog horn again. I couldn't see two feet.

She's was our first and only Princess cruise. (until later this month) we did a 10 day RT Alaska from San Francisco. July 2006

Still our # 1 cruise of 27.

We really liked that casino upstairs and all the frontal viewing area. We would just sit up there and watch the scenery goes by.

She was also built before all the aft balcony rooms became a big money maker for cruise ships. You could go out back on each deck and have a 90 foot wide balcony. It was a lot less cold for viewing while in Alaska.

When we sailed her it was the last few cruises before being transferred to P&O. Staff said they were moving the casino downstairs and turning that area into disco. I'm not sure if that happen.

We did love the old regal.

Sailed on her in 1995. We loved the swim up bar on the ship! Wish the newer ships had those. The Bengal Bar was a regular hangout for our group. Have some very memorable pictures from there.

She was our Honeymoon cruise ship and was my first voyage. That was 1992. I love that ship and enjoyed sailing on her and the sister ship, Crown Princess. It introduced us to cruising and as you can see in our signature space below, we have been doing this every year since.

We will be on the Regal's maiden voyage transatlantic voyage in October.
