We sailed her in 2006, 10 days round trip from San Francisco to Alaska. It was our first Princess experience. We became Princess fans from that point forward.

I was wondering which sailing you were on in 2006 We were on the July 5 sailing

You can have her back..... just send us one of your US ships in exchange.

I have been on Pacific Dawn a couple of times and really didn't like her at all. :o

We cruised on her back in 2006 when we went to South America and Antarctica. She was a beautiful ship and we loved the set up of our mini suite.

I am wondering the reason that you don't like her now in her role as the Pacific Dawn is that when she was sent down here, P&O Australia added a further 500 berths to the ship, changing a lot of the 2 bedded cabins to four bedded and therefore making room for a younger crowd of people and a much more crowded ship.

Thanks for the photos down memory lane. I still think she was one of the most elegant ships we have sailed. Todays ships look like floating hotels, no style. The dome lounge/casino was such a great spot at night and the swim up bar pool. Too bad the new Regal will be nothing like her. I would book her in a heartbeat! New cruise ships are going in a different path.

Thanks for the great pictures ! After looking at them I went through some of my old cruise folders and from our 1991 cruise I found a picture from the bridge (remember the bridge tours) and in that picture was Captain Cesare Ditel. I also found a bar bill for a Strawberry Margarita, strawberries, lime and tequila ..... the cost $2.00. Total cost of 7 day Caribbean cruise (Balcony Stateroom) was $2260. Oh the memories !

When we sailed her it was the last few cruises before being transferred to P&O. Staff said they were moving the casino downstairs and turning that area into disco. I'm not sure if that happen.

We did love the old regal.

That's exactly what happened. Nightclub in Dome and casino moved to deck 8. For current Deck plan (Pacific Dawn) see, http://www.pocruises.com.au/OurShips/Pages/PacificDawnDeckPlan.aspx

The original Crown was my 3rd cruise (1st and 2nd were Sky & Star).

The twin Regal was our honeymoon cruise. Departed San Francisco 9/16/96 for a 17 day through the Panama Canal to Fort Lauderdale. It was my DH's 1st cruise and what a thrill to see his face when he saw the ship from afar on the bus ride from the airport. Boarded the ship through a warehouse so DH didn't really get to see the size of a cruise ship until about day 3 in Cabo from the tender. That's also when we got a good look at the crease in the side of the bow the Captain had recently done

The Captain was called back to the home office in California to report on what he had done to the ship (as least that was the rumor going around the ship!)

The photos that have been posted were great memories; makes me want to pull the honeymoon album out to review the trip :D

The Dome is my favourite area of the Ship....sit quietly to read a book, watch the sea go by, or coming in to ports...Dancing, adult comic's shows...past passenger cocktail evening....and more

I truly love her...and her crew..

kind regards, Lorraine :):)

I think you hit the nail on the head Jennie. Both times we cruised on her she was crowded and since she is now P & O Australia they charge for everything (well seems like it, anyway). I think we must just prefer the US product. :)

I can't see how an extra 500 berths could have been added when the Regal Princess became the Pacific Dawn. Pacific Dawn has a total of 1,950 berths of which 1,596 are lower berths. Therefore there are 354 upper berths. When the ship was the Regal Princess she had some upper berths (but not as many as now). I would suggest that maybe a maximum of 200 upper berths have been added, but as anyone who has sailed on her will know, she never sails will all those berths occupied. Some cabins have only one person and many of the 4-berth cabins have only two people.

An earlier poster commented on the casino on the Regal. I believe it was located in the dome. Aussies don't gamble as much as Americans, so when ships are relocated to Australia, the casino is usually down-sized. It is now on deck 8.

The P&O web site has the capacity as 2020, see http://www.pocruises.com.au/ourships/pages/pacificdawn.aspx

The old Regal had a capacity of 1578, see http://www.travelweekly.com/Cruise-Travel/Regal-Princess-to-leave-Princess-Cruises-fleet/

P&O must have converted a lot of 2 to 4 berth.;)

The figure of 1,950 I quoted is from the P&O brochure.

I question the figure of 1,578 total passenger capacity for the Regal Princess quoted in the Travel Weekly article. I feel that is extraordinarily low compared with other ships, particularly the Sun class ships that are a little big larger (77,000 Gross tons compared with 70,000). Their capacity is 1,990 pax.:)

We cruised on her in September of 1991. it was one of the Inagural cruises in the Eastern Caribbean. Seven days of pure joy. Tony Bennett was one of the entertainers and I had my picture taken with him.

It was only our 2nd cruise with Princess. I was sooo impressed with that beautiful ship.
