I was going to ask if that was the ship that had the area in the stairs where you could look into the bottom of the pool but then saw your last picture.

That's it!

Our cabin was very near those stairs so we took them whenever we went to the pool.

We had a suite on her once and were invited to the Captain's cabin for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. I'll never forget that. He had a whole apartment (which was furnished beautifully!)

We cruised on one of her last trips with Princess. It was a special 21 day cruise to Hawaii and Midway Island, to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Midway. It was full of veterans of that battle and we met many interesting people and heard many stories of the war. It would be great if Princess did some more theme cruises about history.

The Dome is my favourite area of the Ship....sit quietly to read a book, watch the sea go by, or coming in to ports...Dancing, adult comic's shows...past passenger cocktail evening....and more

I truly love her...and her crew..

kind regards, Lorraine :):)

The last time we were on the ship was when she was leaving for Hawaii and then ultimately to Australia. When touring the Dome, folks from P&O were aboard and I snapped this pic of the blueprint for the Dome's redesign.

The figure of 1,950 I quoted is from the P&O brochure.

I question the figure of 1,578 total passenger capacity for the Regal Princess quoted in the Travel Weekly article. I feel that is extraordinarily low compared with other ships, particularly the Sun class ships that are a little big larger (77,000 Gross tons compared with 70,000). Their capacity is 1,990 pax.:)

When we sailed on the lovely old Regal I understood the capacity as around 1500 passengers. The ship never felt crowded and there were lots of Public spaces. We spent 11 sea days in a row on her as we couldn't land at Puerto Madryn or the Falklands and so we went straight down to the Antarctic Peninsula. At no stage did we seem to be an overcrowded ship.

When the Regal was coming to Australia and being converted over to the Pacific Dawn I read that they were adding around 500 berths to the ship. I certainly did not make up that figure and By the Bay confirms what I read in our newspapers. I remember thinking at the time, that P&O were ruining that lovely ship.

We sailed on her through the Panama Canal in Oct 2006 and saw her as P&O's Pacific Jewel in Sydney, Oz in Feb.2013.

The Regal Princess became the Pacific Dawn. The Pacific Jewel was formerly Ocean Village 2 from the UK. :)

We have sailed on the Pacific Dawn several times and enjoyed every one. We didn't feel that the ship was crowded. When we have been on the ship, the total number of passengers on board at the time has been quoted as being in the range 1,850 - 1,900. From memory, the Captain in one of his talks in the main theatre said that the maximum number of passengers they could carry was 1,900 and something. It was certainly less than 2,000.

And, to be fair, Ocean Village 2 was the old Crown Princess...:)

On my first Princess cruise (Sea Princess), we docked right next to the Regal or the Crown Princess in Cozumel. They announced on the ship that if we want, we could use our cruise card to visit the other Princess ship in port. I remember going over and walking around the other ship. I wish I had had a chance to sail either the Regal or the Crown.

I think you are addicted to cruising like I am :)

Yep.

At the end of this month we will be sailing on our 7th and 8th cruise since November.

I'm pretty sure we saw the Regal Princess in Sydney Harbor after she went to P&O.

That's exactly what happened. Nightclub in Dome and casino moved to deck 8. For current Deck plan (Pacific Dawn) see, http://www.pocruises.com.au/OurShips/Pages/PacificDawnDeckPlan.aspx

Regal Princess 1 was originally put on paper by Sitmar. When Princess purchased Sitmar, they got Star Princess 1 nearly complete in the ship yard and Crown Princess 1 and Regal Princess 1 ready to start construction. The original Sitmar vision had the casino on deck 8 and a nightclub in the dome. Princess changed the configuration and in many opinions, ruined the design features of the dome. It's nice to see it back as a club without the slot machines.

The additional berths, however, upset one of the best features of the ship...it's low density. She was beautiful with only 1600 passengers...I can see how an additional 500 could crowd the ship.

I sailed on the original Regal Princess in 1999 for a 9 day Ensanada to Honolulu cruise, 4 days at sea with stops in Hilo, Kona, Lahaina Maui, and Lihue Nawilili Kuaui, ending in Honolulu. It was our second Princess cruise. I have video of deck parties, , the domed lounge, and of night viewing of lava flow into the ocean. It was a beautiful ship and a fabulous trip. Loved the domed lounge/casino up front.

The Regal was my first cruise ever on Princess in 1997. Back in the days of the midnight buffets and ice sculptures. She was the ship that sold me on cruising.

Same for us. Beautiful ship.

Cruised on her in 2005, 10 days Mexico out of San Diego.

Just noticed this being an old tread. I posted the above already in 2014. Still our best cruise.

Our first cruise in 1991 (honeymoon!). Such a beautiful ship.

Been on 18 Princess cruises since then and embarking tomorrow for what will quite possibly be our last. Cruising on Princess has changed too much over the years. :/
