sail7seas Posted March 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Are you careful to close your cabin door when you leave for the last time on disembarkation day or do you leave it open?
K&RCurt Posted March 13, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2014 I close it. Call me jaded, but I wouldn't put it past some people walking down the passageway to take the bathrobes to bring home as a "souvenir" and end up with me being charged for them. I don't think it costs the cabin stewards much time to open the door when they come to flip the cabin.
jtl513 Posted March 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2014 We close it unless a steward is nearby and we tell him we're leaving. What prompts the question?
momatibm Posted March 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2014 We always close the door and put the 'Service Please' card in the lock, so the stewards know we have debarked.
adrift@sea Posted March 13, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 13, 2014 We "carefully" close the cabin door and inform stewards so they are aware the cabin is available to them. I guess we are jaded as well. I agree that I wouldn't put it past someone to wander in and help themselves.
magandab Posted March 13, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Jaded here too, but I always figured the mini bar could be raided, rather than the bathrobe taken.
adrift@sea Posted March 13, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Jaded here too, but I always figured the mini bar could be raided, rather than the bathrobe taken. I was actually thinking more along someone helping themselves to the mini bar than the bathrobes. Either way.....
durangoscots Posted March 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Close it, unless the stewards are right there. Usually when they start to hover about, I leave. Susan
pris993 Posted March 13, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 13, 2014 I would think it is hard to leave a door open, they usually swing shut, unless you put a wedge in the door to keep it open. We closed the door or it closes behind us. We look for the steward so we can give him/her an extra tip and let the staff know we are out of the cabin. We have nearly 50 cruises, never been charged for anything missing after the fact.
nanlaur Posted March 13, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 13, 2014 We always close the door and put the 'Service Please' card in the lock, so the stewards know we have debarked. That's what we do, too.

Rare boards Posted March 13, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 13, 2014 We close the door unless the steward is right there to service it. It just seems to be the right thing to do.

rkacruiser Posted March 13, 2014 #15 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Me too, always close the door. Never thought about not trying to leave it open and have someone snitch the bathrobes or mini-bar contents. Guess I am too trusting.

Irish Eyes Are Sailing Posted March 13, 2014 #17 Share Posted March 13, 2014 I vote for ALWAYS closing the cabin door. I will leave the little tag in the key slot that says "Service Please" or something like that so they know we are gone.

I will leave the little tag in the key slot that says "Service Please" or something like that so they know we are gone. I've always assumed that once we've had our card scanned that last sad time, some sort of notification goes to the room stewards that we are off the ship and, therefore, our cabin is empty. OCruisers Posted March 13, 2014 #19 Share Posted March 13, 2014 We always close ours as quietly as possible in case some near by are on a B2B and are able to sleep a bit later. :) LuLu ~~~~
serendipity1499 Posted March 13, 2014 #20 Share Posted March 13, 2014 We normally close ours too.. We look for & give the Stewards the extra tip with a Thank You note, the night before debarkation.. We also normally debark late since we don't have to make a flight.. Usually while we are out for breakfast, the stewards have already started to work on our cabin as we only leave our hand luggage in the cabin.. We have nearly 50 cruises, never been charged for anything missing after the fact. HAL cabin doors stay open unless the motion of the ocean closes it while cruising. We always close our door when we leave for the reasons others have given. We would not want someone roaming in and helping themselves to robes, binnoculars, ice bucket.....anything. We wouldn't want to be 'blamed' for removing it. We've seen too many ill mannered folks on cruises in recent years to not imagine some prankster could get into all sorts of mischief. Why take the chance?
Typhoon1 Posted March 13, 2014 #22 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Close the door behind you. The stewards know which cabins are in early disembarkation, and get to those first.
sail7seas Posted March 13, 2014 Author #23 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Neptune/Pinnacle Suites can ask for early debark and be listed for it but can leave at a later time. I imagine it is likely the same for most on the ship. Stewards don't know when you are leaving just by color/number if many of us stay later than our color would indicate we are leaving. innlady1 Posted March 13, 2014 #24 Share Posted March 13, 2014 When we are ready to leave, we find the room stewards to give them our "thank you" envelopes, so they know we're on our way...
