I expected better.

My family is onboard now, and like most passengers, are making the best of this situation! This was in no way Princess's fault, an we are surprised and thankful for what has been offered to us. All crew onboard has been fabulous and are working hard to keep us fed well and entertained.

We cruised on CB last month out of Houston and had a fantastic time. I wonder though if Princess might be rethinking its decision to cruise out of Houston. Between fog and now this issue they must be thinking about how easy it is to cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. I enjoyed my cruise so much out of Houston that I rebooked for next February but I have to wonder if Princess will remain at this embarkation port.

We are supposed to be on the sailing next Sat, hope we are not canceled.

I'd expect the channel to be open again by then. Just glad we got in super early Saturday morning to avoid the fog...would have been bad if we were fogged out then got caught by the spill.

If I could reach out to our head waiter we'd likely invite him to dinner here given all the fantastic service he provided our family taking care of dd special diet needs.

Obviously - I am in the minority.

This cruise should be free. I realize it is not Princess's fault but giving 100% refund on this cruise makes perfect/logical sense as the ship is not going anywhere.

As far as future cruise discount - It is adequate IMO, I thought they could do better. For those who are retired or have an extremely liberal vacation policy, this probably is fine. A lot of people who cruise are still working and may only get 1-2 weeks vacation per year. Their first week is over and their 2nd week may be accounted for doing other things. 25% may not be enough to get people to change their 2nd week to a cruise when there are other obligations (weddings, graduation, etc...) that these people take vacation time for. I assume they probably have a year to use it.

Like others, I am entitled to my opinion also. Remember, not everyone on these ships are retired or have unlimited vacation.

For something that was caused by an incident completely beyond their control, such as this, the compensations sounds very generous.

There seem to be so many problems this season with cruises out of this port with weather, fog, the channel, etc. I wonder how profitable these cruises have been for Princess with all of the problems?

Sorry your trip didn't happen. I have no doubt crew is trying to make the best of it. It is a no-win situation as it is not Princess's fault but they were not able to provide the vacation they wanted for you.

100% refund means the cruise is 'free'. It has also been said on the other thread that even if the ship does manage to leave for a few days, those still on board will still get the 100% refund and 25% credit for a future cruise.

I just looked on the Carnival board for what they are offering people delayed boarding the Magic, and it is errrmmm, nothing.

edited to add: it was nothing, it seems they can now cancel for a refund, OR, future credit, compared to PCL who are offing refund, 25% credit, AND option to stay on and cruise if they make it out.

This week is free. You are right. But this week probably won't be much for many. They will stay on board as many are unable to fly home and it would be too inconvenient to change flights. I am guessing most things are not happening as the ship is not at sea (casinos, shops, etc...). People were posting yesterday how they are already bored. Hopefully the ship gets to go to sea for a few days, otherwise it is like a hotel in Houston (not my idea of a vacation spot).

I looked at cruise fares for next week on this ship. Houston/Galveston cruises are usually pretty cheap compared to FLL counterparts. While these are last minute fares, they are not unreasonable for this ship. The prices for next week are $329/inside, $599/balcony $799 mini suite. So if someone booked a mini suite, they are receiving $200 towards another cruise. For those in insides, they will probably get less than $100 towards another cruise. In most cases, it is not 25% off a future cruise but 25% off what they paid on this cruise towards another cruise. I could be mistaken.

Honestly - I don't know what Princess could have done. It is not their fault, it is not like a mechanical difficulty. But this week is a bust for many and the money towards another cruise probably will be minimal and for those with limited vacation won't see this as much of an incentive. For those who are retired, it is probably great. I just feel for those who this was their only vacation for the year. Though, I understand, it is not Princess's fault and they really didn't need to do anything. I just don't think $200 towards another cruise is a lot. Again, a no win situation. Princess is probably more disappointed as this is not their fault and they are disappointing passengers. Thankfully it sounds like most are taking it in stride.

Actually they are getting a "free" week with entertainment and food and perhaps some cruising. We enjoy the ship experience more than the port calls.

They are getting 25% toward a future cruise and a 100% refund which they can also use toward a future cruise or to pay bills or to do with whatever.

That is a very fair response by Princess.

Actually Galveston is one of the most expensive ports to cruise from...It's always cheaper from Florida.

Although my heart goes out to those who have had their vacation plans go awry, unfortunate things, beyond anyone's control, do happen in life. Princess has offered generous compensation. There is simply no way to make this situation better than they have done.

I understand that many of these people's vacations didn't turn out the way they had planned. Unfortunately, this can happen on a land vacation as well, but with no compensation at all. Let's say you book a vacation to a city you are really looking forward to visiting. When you get there and are checked into your hotel, the weather (something you, the city, or the hotel doesn't have control over) is so bad that you can't see any of the sights you planned on seeing, and even getting out of the hotel is...well, unpleasant. Does the hotel give you a refund so you can come back again someday? No. So while it's unfortunate those folks on this "cruise" aren't actually cruising, I think Princess is very generous.

Compensation seems reasonable to me, since people probably have the option of getting off the ship and doing something else for the remainder of the week, either day trips or heading off somewhere. The question will be does trip insurance cover any independent flights, etc, which of course will vary by policy.

If I am Princess, I am possibly quietly offering Pax the option to move to the Triumph and be bussed over to Galveston, as it looks like they may sail - depending on how many cabins there are available (hence quietly)
