Noro hand sanitizer recommendations?

Recommended Posts

Don't worry about touching THINGS....simply don't touch your FACE...nose, eyes or mouth, until you've washed your hands! Having dirt or germs on your hands won't hurt you, unless you introduce those germs into your system by touching your FACE!!! That's the key!

Soap and water wash off the germs. You don't need to "sanitze"!

Lol. Don't give people any more ideas if random crap to bring. Next thing you know people will be asking how to smuggle bleach in their luggage.

rumr..... ahmmm bleachrunners;)

How many rumrunner threads do you think we got in the past week? I've only been on here for a few weeks and are already tired of those threads lol

Unless you touch food with your hands and then eat that food (think burger bun). Not touching your face is one good idea, but you can introduce noro into your system in other ways.

As I have read normal hand sanitizers (alcohol based) do not work against noro virus, does anyone know of any other hand sanitizers that do work? thanks:)

There are no consumer santizers that will work on Noro. The best is to wash hands with soap and water for about 3 minutes . Dry your hands with a paper towel and use the that towel or another fresh one to open the restroom doors. Use a knuckle or elbow to to push elevator buttons . Noro can live on services for up to 6 weeks or longer. You'll know when there is an outbreak on board you notice that food is serviced by the staff and all tables have had salt & pepper shakers removed. All drinks will also be serviced by the staff .

I can't say I have ever noticed anyone washing their hands for 3 minutes. I believe the CDC recommends singing Happy Birthday twice while washing, or over 20 seconds. It is also very hard to get around the ship without touching something someone else has touched before, especially going through the buffet.

Especially the menus in the MDR and tongs in the Windjammer. I also hate when they put the whole tong, handle and all in the food.

I know ..... Are we really going to leave the table and go wash our hands after reading the menus? I think not. I wonder if they think of that when there's an outbreak....

Just hold the menu in your napkin while reading it?

Yes, they do, as well as the casino chips.

Warm Soap and Water(Dial Soap could work in those bottles) but I just use the regular soap provided in the restrooms and wash before and after meals after using the restroom and for no reason at all just to stay healthy.

I use the paper towel to open the door and throw it away in the bin outside of the restroom.

Its all about hygiene.

The best thing to use is "anti-Viral" in UK we can get it in the chemist in a foam applicator. Anti-bacterial will only kill germs (dirt) Noro is a virus so you need anti-viral. if you can't get it wash your hands but this stuff works for up to 6 hours.

It is about hygiene, true, and good thorough hand washing is the key thing.

Also, since we have limited control over what may be in the environment, we work on our own immune systems pre - cruise (or any trip) so we can better resist any virus or bacteria we may encounter: try to start a trip well rested and nourished and hydrated. Take extra vitamins (C especially and the B vitamins) and add garlic and zinc. A neti pot or saline rinse is very effective at washing away germs before they make you sick.

Might want to consider spending time and effort getting the body into good immune health before your trip. Then wash your hands as recommended and enjoy the cruise!

There is a soap called Chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) that surgeons use in surgery to wash in and to wash the patient in - kills most virus. You can buy it at upscale pharmacies in a little white bottle, about 6 oz, i take one and it lasts all week for our family. We are also believers in good ole soap and water.

My parents always tend to pick the cruises where there are outbreaks:rolleyes:

They always go back to their cabin to use the restroom unless emergency so to speak and are too far away. They avoid all the public restrooms as best they can.

Also when there is an out break they try to avoid the WJ if possible at lunchtime and go to the MDR. Not just for hygiene reasons but also if there is a large enough outbreak they will NOT let you serve yourself in WJ so lines get really long!

My mum also keeps a travel pack of disinfecting wipes in her purse as well so if she does need to visit a restroom she wipes the toilet and handle etc down before she uses.

Touch wood they have also faired well:)

It's all about common sense and basic hygiene washing hands for two minutes in warm soapy water.

Agreed.

I sometimes use a napkin to pick up the utensils, as sometimes if dropped in the food the serving utensils can get quite warm as well. If someone drops in the food I try to serve myself from the back where it is less likely the food has been in contact with the utensils. :)

Dont touch stuff with your HANDS, use your sleeves, elbows, wrists... dont touch the stair rails or elevator buttons... wash your hands constantly. I bring my own antibacterial soap and little antibacterial things attached to the purse. Wet wipes, bring um

It is not necessary to do two or three minutes, though it cannot hurt. After having retired from food handling I can affirm that the twenty second rule is recommended.
