Celebrity Cruise going cheap

I was also on this one, one of my favorites to date, My eclipse TA being number one, this #2.

There we are about 500 in the group, or about a quarter of the ship.

Booked again next January with them. :-)

What's the date? Sailing with loud mouth drunks isn't my cup of tea and numerous women doing the 2 finger whistle, well uck. However, this group of 700, if you can believe them, did not begin to ruin our cruise, just thought they were gross. We don't hang at the pool, the casino or the Martini Bar but they did impact Al Bacio's

What I disliked was the never ending, nonstop pushing of their Travel Agency. It was in everyone's faces everywhere. Oddly, Celebrity embraced them in "Celebrity Today".

One last thing, I think Carnaval has banned them.

What's the date?

One last thing, I think Carnaval has banned them.

The date of my planned cruise is Reflection on Jan 17th 2015.

I can't speak to your comment on Carnival, but can report they have planned cruises on Royal, Celebrity, NCL and Princess coming this year. So sounds more to me like they have LEFT Carnival for different lines. But as I say I have no way to confirm or deny what you say about them being banned by Carnival.

So I guess their comments about a few friends and families and their friends and families and so on and so on getting together for an annual cruise has paid off big time for this Travel Agency.

Good marketing, shocking Carnival dumped them but X, Princess, RCCL and NCL have embraced them.

Fortunately, I won't be on the 17 January Reflection cruise.

I don't eat in the MDR or buffet

I don't go to shows

Every cruise is different. This winter we did 3 five day cruises on the Constellation. The first one in December we had to spend 47 hours in Key West do to an engine failure. The whining on CC was over the top but we just enjoyed our extra nights and day in KW. The next cruise we took was in January with the "Cruise Fools" and well the name says it all. Finally in March we returned right after 'Celebrity Cruises' reported here X listened about music being too loud and would adjust the level of volume. On this cruise even the Martini Bar was deader than a door nail, boring!

We also did a b2b on Century in February, not perfect but met a bunch of wonderful CC people and visited some new ports and it was one of our favorite cruises. I must say our March 15th cruise on the Reflection was perfect.

My point is whether it is a short cruise or a long cruise you'll not know what you get until you board. My advice, make the best of every vacation you can, land or sea, live life to the fullest and don't sweat the little stuff.

From the looks of your above post, doesn't sound like you spend too much time on the land. :D

You'll also want to avoid the Summit on Jan 24 from SJU, a small portion of the group has decided to take that sailing rather than the Reflection. This one will probably be about 100 or so.

funny... I have read here how bad the entertainment is on Celebrity but

once aboard I felt the exact opposite.. my wife and I LOVED it !

we felt there was a nice variety-

I could see how the Miami DJ's might not be for everybody but we liked them a alot. There was a lady on our cruise who played the piano similar to Liberace and sang. She was not our favorite because that type of music isn't our style but we skipped her show and let those who wanted to see her have our seats.

Personally I'm glad there's a performer who may be geared for older crowds along with ones who are geared for the younger set. Nothing wrong with that.

I guess folks need to understand that there is a difference between the passenger demographics on a 3-5 day cruise vs a 14-60 day cruise :). But when a cruise line has short cruises (less then a week) and offers booze packages that include unlimited drinks, it is going to attract a number of cruisers who come aboard for the purpose of getting smashed, partying, making lots of noise, having fun, etc. This certainly is not the kind of cruise we want to take (we seldom take any cruise shorter then 2 weeks) but we still remember being young and taking short cruises to party.

So, if Mr. Bayley is using these short cruises to attract a younger clientele, then it sounds like he might have a good idea. And if he is doing this to drive away we older customers then he might be very successful. For us, we will continue to cruise on X, but we will also avoid Caribbean cruises (we only do one of these a year anyway) that are shorter then 14 days.

Thank goodness the string quartet is gone....it was pretty boring for me. I guess it is just personal taste as far as what one likes and dislikes.

The greatest thing about cruising is that there are so many cruise lines and ships to choose from. If you don't like one, there will certainly be one that fits the bill for you.

Unfortunately, the cruise line many of us have liked and loyally supported for several cruises a year (without free beverage packages) is in fact this one.

Recently, it has not always lived up to its self set standards of being elegant and classy. It is nice to be updated and modern but a rap DJ is not consistent with marketing of Modern Luxury in most people's books!!!

I do agree that the recent string groups have been awfull but once up on a time they very talented. The accordion player and violinist we had on a recent cruise were a throwback not a step forward..

The jury is still out on what changes will bring...growing pains we suspect!

Things change and we either have to go with the changes or we can sit and complain about them (which doesn't really do much except for getting one upset) or we can go and spend our $'s somewhere that fits us better. That is what is so great, we have a choice!

Hey, I look at a DJ is more Modern than it was before. I would personally like to see more name artist performing, but if that were the case, I'm sure our cruise fare would go up considerably. I would rather listen to a DJ (even though I haven't heard rap on any cruise, hip hop but not rap) as others would as well, than a string quarted or accordion player. It is all about personal tastes. I've said all along that Celebrity has to play all types of music and have all types of performers. Celebrity can't just appeal to one certain age group, because then they alienate all the other age groups and that certainly would not be a good business decision.

My sister is on the Connie right now--doing a B2B of those "dreadful" 5-night cruises. She reports best service ever. Says everything is wonderful. Amazing the different experiences people have on the same cruises.

Hi Linda! This is completely OT, but every time I read a page that you post on, I have to scroll across the page to read it. Is there any way you can rearrange your countdowns to 2 over 2 rather than across the page?

Thanks!

Every time I see them they're 2 over 2. Now on this page they're 1 over 1. Who knows? I haven't done anything different.
