Should I Upgrade to a Grande Suite on Oasis?

Hello, need some advise. DH and I are sailing the oasis in two weeks for our anniversary. Our stateroom is oceanview partially obstructed and we paid $659/pp. The cruise and tips are fully paid off in advance, phew! i thought it was a great rate and was hoping a balcony would open up but it hasnt yet. I'm fine with the cabin. I just went online and there are still no balconies, but two GS on deck 6 showing for $1659/pp. Thats a lot more but I think its a good rate for that category.

My question to the experienced cruisers who know about the suite perks...should I go for it? Is the room and the perks worth that extra $$? DH and I tend to not spend a lit of time in the cabin on cruises, but a balcony sounds nice. (Never had a balcony)

Thank you!

This question is asked so often on here.

No one knows what something is "worth" to someone else.

Would *I* pay $2000 more to move from an Ocean View cabin to a Grand Suite?

No, absolutely not. You have a fabulous rate on that OV cabin, and you should spend your entire cruise patting yourself on the back for doing such a good job, and never look back.

the rate seems good for a Grand Suite. I believe with that room, you have access to the concierge lounge which you can also drink for free every night for a few hours. I've paid almost that much per person for a balcony on the Breakaway, so to me, you have an option for a great room for that price. I'd say do it if you have the money.

I agree. When I used to think about upgrading because of free drinks in the CL, I would tell myself that I can drink anywhere on the ship, anything I want, for the multi thousands I am saving. Then it doesn't look so good.

I am D+ now so I get free drinks in the evening but I still use that method to ask myself if I really want the extra room or if the perks I get would equal 2k 3k or whatever the price jump is.

For me, paying less usually means increased satisfaction with my cruise. When I know I got a good deal I am willing to overlook minor problems and inconveniences. If I was paying top dollar I would expect more from food, service, ship condition, everything.

So keep your cabin and use the 2k for another cruise or other vacation.

Not worth it to me either. Much rather use the money for another cruise.

I wouldn't even think twice. It's a no brainer for me- take the GS! If you do, be sure to educate yourself on the perks and use them. I find it makes a difference in my cruise experience- the reserved show seating, the priority disembarking at ports, the reserved seating in the WJ, etc. People talk about it being for the free drinks, but there is lots more to it than that.

It's really a matter of personal taste in the level of service you want, and if you want to treat yourself to a bit more and it's affordable to you- go for it! That way you'll know for future cruises if it's right for you, and if it's 'worth it'.

$1659 per person?? No way...for $3300 that's a whole extra cruise...a GS is nice, no doubt...but on a ship the size of Oasis how much time are you REALLY going to be in your cabin? So much to see & do I would imagine you will be out & about exploring... If the extra money is not a strain on your budget, why not book another cruise onboard...reduceded deposit & onboard credit...an just earmark your upgrade money to pay for that cruise?

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the input. I have a little devil on one side saying go for it, you deserve it, its your anniversary, treat yourself, etc, and on the other side an angel saying save your $$!

$1650 per person for a GS is a great deal. Only you know if it's a great deal for you. We have sailed Oasis twice. On the last cruise we paid $1649 (less the D+ discount) per person for a Crown Loft! A "once in a lifetime" deal. The Concierge Lounge is spectacular. Serves Breakfast, lunch (including free beer and wine), and happy hour. The "Gold Card" deck is very nice, including a private bar (not free). If you go to Labadee, you have a private beach and upgraded lunch for Gold Card holders. But it's a lot of money. We spend a lot of time in our cabin on the balcony. We do a lot around the ship too, but aren't pool dwellers. We'd rather lay in the peace and quiet on the balcony. We also have been to the Caribbean enough that we don't spend all day on shore (except Labadee), so we have extra time on the ship. And I am old enough that it's now in my price range.

If that's you, do it. It's a great deal. But if you spend a lot of time at the pool, don't care about the Concierge lounge, like to go ashore, the $2000 can buy a whole lot of stuff.

If you always wanted to try it though, it sure is a good deal (did I say that before?).

I saw absolutely. Its a great price for a GS and its not about the free drinks...its about the extra indulgence to make your occasion special.

We sailed in one last year and my Hubby loved the room and we are going in one again. The price is as low as they ever go.

only thing is...you will be spoiled and want to sail again in them

the large room, great balcony with normal height table for eating, great bathroom, the suite boarding area at the port, free luggage valet, all the extra perks will make your trip special

have fun :)

I say GO FOR IT!! I just sailed on the Oasis and paid $1300/pp for ocean balcony on a spring break cruise (high rates for a prime time) THIS IS A GREAT DEAL for you and even though it is a lot more than you are paying for an ocean view I think you will remember this special cruise as something you were glad you upgraded

We got an upgrade to a Jr/ suite and I thought that it was a big difference from just an ocean balcony, I can just imagine what a GS would be!

Listen to the Little Devil. I always subscribed to the same thought to save the money for the suite, but, we just experienced a Grand Suite on Explorer and were absolutely treated like royalty.

Every time you turn around there is an invitation to a special dinner with the officers, there are special suite events held at CoCo Cay. Having a special dining room set aside for breakfast, Portofino's in our case aboard Explorer, is very unique and a lovely way to start your day aboard ship.

The cabin size is tremendous you won't have to walk sideways to squeeze around the bed. The Concierge Lounge is an oasis all its own, a quiet place to relax, sure there are lounges all over the ship but, not with a dedicated staff member to answer questions, book excursions and handle any on board issues.

I wouldn't think twice about it, book the Grand Suite and celebrate your anniversary in style.

The breakfast and lunch with beer/wine is also a nice extra on Oasis. I forgot about that.

There is no doubt it would be nice to have a GS, and that is not a bad price. Would it make you 2k worth happier? Only you can decide.

I have booked OS once and that was enough. To me, GS is just as spacious with a lower price tag. I think JS is the best bang for your buck on most ships. But I am happy in a D or inside as well. I don't really care about the exact room if I get my preferred location/price.

That is a spectacular price for an Oasis GS! Take it. You will be so happy you did. And I'll bet you will spend more time in that suite than you usually do in your cabin! It is so comfortable and has a big bathroom. Access to the Concierge Lounge is a huge plus on this class ship. It offers great views, services of the concierge, breakfast and lunch if you wish (no crowded Windjammer), including beer and wine at lunch at no charge and the free drinks in the evening.

I would lean toward upgrading for this special trip but only you know your financial situation and whether you will have any regrets about money that could have been spent elsewhere. Also depends on your style of cruising. If you like to spend most if your time in venues, the casino or out on deck or in the Solarium then it may not be worth it and when you get off the ship you will be glad you did not spend an extra $2k. But if you love having private space and see yourselves dining on the balcony and spending a lot of time enjoying the other suite amenities then it's probably worth it.

We just upgraded from a Jr. Suite to a Grand - didn't quite get that rate due to the fact we're going on Spring Break next year. We decided to go for it just this once - time will tell if we made the right decision.

We can't go on additional cruises since it's tough to get the time off...best of luck, and I say make your decision and don't look back. Things tend to work out the way they're supposed to...You're going to have a wonderful time either way!
