momof3cruisers Posted April 23, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2014 We really liked the couple that had angel food cake. One had strawberry, the other had banana.

lakelorain Posted April 23, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 23, 2014 The original sugar free key lime pie is gone. Now it is some type of congealed dessert. Didn't like it. Hope they bring back the old one.
KansasK Posted April 23, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 23, 2014 I remember a sugar free coconut cake. It was a 4 layer white cake with vanilla icing and with coconut sprinkled on top. It was surprisingly good. The sugar free ice cream is good, also.
Langley Cruisers Posted April 23, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 23, 2014 The original sugar free key lime pie is gone. Now it is some type of congealed dessert... Yes, we noticed this too. Too bad. We had a side-by-side taste test a few years ago and the SF Key Lime pie won for our family! It was garnished a little differently too, with a few fresh berries. Remember that sugar-free does not always mean low calorie, low fat, and/or low carb. Many of the desserts are still high in carbs so do be aware, diabetic and low-carb cruisers. :) . Lynn the Cruiser Posted April 23, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 23, 2014 I remember a sugar free coconut cake. It was a 4 layer white cake with vanilla icing and with coconut sprinkled on top. It was surprisingly good. The sugar free ice cream is good, also. No more SF coconut cake!!!! That was my favorite!!! Now there is an awesome SF pie(sort of cheesecake-like) with berries on top. I get 2 of them!!!! I forget what it is called.

spookwife Posted April 23, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 23, 2014 I need your recommendations! I love rich desserts but would like to choose some lighter fare on our next cruise...what are your favorites? sugar free is NOT going to be low low carb or 'lighter' they replace the sugar with artificial sweetener I aim for things labeled no sugar added or something that is already on the lighter side like angel food cake and fresh berries
ehfl Posted April 23, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 23, 2014 Low fat and sugar free are not "light". Low fat just means high carb, and sugar free is still high carb. A small portion of natural fats and sugars, is likely to be more healthy than a large portion of some toxic-waste filled pie.
royalcruz Posted April 24, 2014 #13 Share Posted April 24, 2014 I follow a low carb diet and was able to get berries and cream every night except the first by requesting this from the server the first night.

OKC Cruisers Posted April 24, 2014 #15 Share Posted April 24, 2014 Wait...What??? They have sugar free desserts on cruises??? In truth, though, I love the SF Coconut Cookies with a bowl of fruit. Pete

Many of the desserts don't qualify as small portions of either fats or sugar. The toxic-waste comment is unfortunate.

Langley Cruisers Posted April 25, 2014 #20 Share Posted April 25, 2014 I maybe the only one who likes the sugar free chocolate chip cookies in the WJ. The sugar free peanut butter cookies are lovely too (if they haven't been over baked and are nice and soft!). :D
shopper77 Posted April 25, 2014 #21 Share Posted April 25, 2014 I love the sugar free coconut layer cake. They have now taken it off to the menu, but on my last 3 sailing I was able to request it before my cruises. If fact on our last cruise I was able to get it every night. :)
kitt82078 Posted April 25, 2014 #22 Share Posted April 25, 2014 If you REALLY want lighter choices, (dude, you are on a cruise, wth?) They are labeled on the menu with a little flower symbol. Looks like a marijhana leaf. ;-) Surprisingly, they are not always the sf choices.
Langley Cruisers Posted April 25, 2014 #23 Share Posted April 25, 2014 If you REALLY want lighter choices, (dude, you are on a cruise, wth?) Yes, some of us make choices based on our health - for instance, I am a diabetic and decline most carbs such as white bread, rice, and potatoes. There are reasons people want to make alternate choices. :)
Anzura Posted April 25, 2014 #24 Share Posted April 25, 2014 If you want to go low fat and sugar free, I would choose fresh berries and yogurt. Chemicals from artificial sweeteners are no bueno!
