Drink Package-how did you like it?

Recommended Posts

Looks like there is a pub on the Allure....would beer from the pub be included in the $55/day package? My hubby loves good beer!

also the ones that are not included will have an * by them i believe

the thing that kills me with the drink package is, if i dont want to drink, im still paying for it.

i drink more than most WHEN i drink. i leave in a week, plan on getting a lot tipsy day 1 and relaxing day 2. im still paying $55 when not 1 drop of alcohol is being consumed.

so if you can buy it daily, yes, its a great deal. if you have to buy it the entire trip, it doesnt pay off. ill bring my own liquor and drink when i want.

I think that's what makes the drink packages profitable for Royal.

If you don't plan on drinking that much every day then just buy the drinks as you go. No one is forcing you to buy a package. For some it's a great deal. For others it's not. Not a big deal!

The water as you exit the ship is not included.

We always got ours from the bartenders in advance.

We got the water that was available as we exited the ship in the ports without any problems. This was on Allure a couple of weeks ago.

You can buy it for less than the entire cruise, but at the time you purchase there has to be 4 days left (recent reports suggest possibly 3) and you have to it it for all remaining days.

Bringing your own liquor is prohibited but you can bring 2 bottles 750mL on with you at embarkation.

Of all the people I know that purchased it they all hit a wall by day 4 or 5 on their 7 day cruises. They all said the same thing; they enjoyed the convenience to order drinks they would not have ordered otherwise, and they also probably won't order the package again.

Since you don't HAVE to purchase it the first day I'd say gauge how you feel and monitor your consumption. If you rip past $55 like a bullet through Jello on day one, purchase for the rest of the time. If you have two or three drinks and are satisfied with that you probably won't need the package.

Port days can be a struggle to make it all work given the time off the ship and the liklihood of being in heat/sun and having a few cheap cold beers on the islands...it really depends what your tolerance and thirst is.

When you go on a week long land vacation do you spend $400 +/- per person on alcohol? That could be a good barometer to see if it is a good fit as prices on board are similar to mid-level restaurants and resorts.

We have just as you suggest, and looked at time in port, and what we think we will do on land, to come to a decision.

Generally, we sail the med, and we enjoy spening time at cafes in port drinking some local wine or cocktails (and coke for me; I am not a big alcohol drinker). We probably spend 30 to 40 euro a day on drinks and munchies to go with those drinks in port, plus $25 to 30 on the ship for wine with dinner and a couple of cokes or a mixed drink.

Our next two cruises we do not expect to be drinking in ports. Norway is next, and they are not known for their wines or drinks, and prices are high there. We plan on shorter port days (we go Friday--it will be chilly) and lots of time on our balcony or some deck with a good view. So, we think the drink package will be worth it (we may not save money, but we will not feel like we are wasting a ton either and look forward to not worrying about it). We bought the Ultimate Package for DH and the Replenish for myself.

Likewise, in September we have a TA cruise with only one port stop in 12 days--so with no drinks in port and almost no time off the ship a package makes sense and if we like it on the Legend we will buy the same thign for the Oasis.

Hi, we are thinking about the Premium drinks package whilst we are on Oasis of the Seas. Does anyone know if there is a list of drinks covered by the package? I enjoy Malibu and wonder if it is included

All drinks priced $10 and below are included. Here's a menu:

I'm debating about getting the $55 a day drink package. It sounds so convenient no signing, no hauling water & soda on board. Not sure if I would spend $55 a day. Would be interested in hearing about your experience. And can you use it on a coffee liquor after dinner drink?

I drank several 7-8 cocktails spread out throughout the day and now that water is included I'll be ahead and more. I've only gotten it on 4 and 5 day cruises. 7 days is just way too much drinking for me and I'm sure id lose money. Coffee is included with the highest package

Totally worth it for us (me and DH). Did not find the service suffered at all. We did tip the drink guy at my time dining $5 the first night and he always kept our wine flowing (we sat in the same section every night). He gave us Irish coffees without charging additional, although in Portifino's they did charge full price for Irish Coffee (next time I will order coffee with a shot on the side). They also would not serve say a $14 glass of wine and just charge the difference. If we wanted that wine we would have had to pay full price.

We hit every bar and never had a problem with service ever. Service in the casino was excellent as well.

Grabbing a bottle of water whenever you walked by a bar for your cabin is an excellent idea. We did this as well. They do give you an insulated cup for the soda machine when you buy the package at embarkation.

We have cruised before and know how fast the drinks add up. We will always do this package if cruising together!

We start with Mimosas at breakfast, a Fosters can at lunch, 2 cocktails before dinner, wine with dinner, scotch after dinner on our balcony or at a show. Any way you cut it we figure we saved over $300.00 on a seven day cruise. We saved receipts for all our purchases to compare.

This doesn't seem consistent throughout the fleet. Lots of posts here saying they were just charged the difference. I'm too lazy to collate what ship they were on, but would be nice to know which ships do it which way.

You were able to use the new soda machines with the cup they gave you with the drink package? I had been hearing that it didn't include the machines and that there was no chip in the cup they gave you with the alcohol packages. This is encouraging and pretty much sells the package for me. Diet soda is one of my few vices (along with drinking on vacation and a tattoo addiction).

The packages were changed this past November, and the special soda cups were added to all the unlimited drink packages.

Way too expensive, imo. Just not worth it. You really have to do a lot of drinking to get your money's worth.

$55 a day? That's 5 cocktails and u break even. It's actually a great deal. You go to dc or Miami and you're paying that for 2-3 drinks and that's it.
