HokiePoq Posted May 2, 2014 #26 Share Posted May 2, 2014 We boarded the Infinity as rather normal, run of the mill hand washers and debarked with a bad case of OCD -- at every turn there was someone standing there with a bottle of hand sanitizer -- stores, theater, lounges --it was EVERYWHERE and you get off the ship and still think you need to use hand sanitizer every 5 minutes. They even came and sprayed the arms of our lounge chairs in the solarium while we were sitting In them --TWICE --the third time she tried it we said NO! It's going to take us a few more days to get over it! It does that to us, doesn't it? Now I'm thinking of taking sanitizer to church to use after passing the peace and taking communion........ After looking into it, the Infinity seems to have been to the same ports as the Star had been when we were on it in Jan/Feb. Noro seems to be brought onboard from these ports. Folks should be very cautious about eating/drinking anything onshore in the port on this itinerary. They are required to wipe down surfaces every hour per CDC rules IIRC. upwarduk Posted May 2, 2014 #27 Share Posted May 2, 2014 (edited) now I'm worried. We are set to sail in August on British Isle cruise. This does not sound good. We did the Infinity TA from Harwich in 'Oct 2013 & neither of us got sick, although there were plenty of people with respiratory virus'. The problem seemed to be the small rooms which were used for iPhone / Future cruise lectures. I have a theory; we don't go into the Casino. When you think of the number of people/ machines in there-----! Edited May 2, 2014 by upwarduk
Envelope21 Posted May 4, 2014 #28 Share Posted May 4, 2014 We are on Infinity now. We are at our port in Halifax and using wifi at a coffee shop. Yes, we were several hours late leaving Miami and yes, we stood in line almost an hour to board. But I have to say the staff and cruise director have been awesome. They have all had to work extra hours, but have remained cheerful and friendly. This morning was the first time we've been able to get our own coffee at the drink stations. Prior to that the crew has had to serve us in the buffet and at all drink stations. It made things a little slow, but most people were easy going about it and very understanding. Even though we were late leaving Miami, we arrived in NYC on time and had a beautiful sunny day in the city. Today in Halix it is also sunny and surprisingly quite warm. I probably won't be able to log back on to cruise critic after we leave here because we will be at sea for 6 days. We did use our coupons to get an internet package, but it is very very slow and I usually just log on to check email and then log off right away. Yesterday it took 13 minutes to send one email. Bye for now,

Rare ghstudio Posted May 4, 2014 #30 Share Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) We've found the internet no slower on the infinity than other celebrity ships. Before I sign on with our netbook, I start outlook so I am ready to go. Once it's started, I sign on to celebrity's network and do a send/receive using outlook. When complete, I log off celebrity's internet and then review the mail. I find that some of the junk mail can be huge..pictures I don't want, etc. We set up a "cruise mail" account and only give it to our friends. We only review our regular mail on port stops. As far as Cruise Critic...it can be painfully slow. I've suggested building a different interface so that it was more accessible from slower networks, but never heard back on my suggestions. If you do start a thread...like this one, make sure you bookmark the thread so you can get right there...and it will still take about 5-6 minutes to post something. Looking forward to hearing more about the infinity and your cruise....and any changes, pluses or minuses you notice. cruise47 Posted May 4, 2014 #31 Share Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) What is the over all conditions of the ship (rooms, service by crew members, food and entertainment, shops etc) ? We have a 14 days cruise coming up. Edited May 4, 2014 by cruise47
Photo_Traveler Posted May 4, 2014 #32 Share Posted May 4, 2014 What is the over all conditions of the ship (rooms, service by crew members, food and entertainment, shops etc) ? We have a 14 days cruise coming up. My review is being reviewed by the CC staff. But, we found the ship in excellent shape. Certainly there is rust (as well as rust stains). That is the bane of seagoing vessels. If you have a good set of Cabin attendants, Great Chemistry in Trellis (or Blu) and the ship does not go under Code Red; you'll have a great time. If you like wine. The South American tasting is a gem! Not to be missed. Mike

sergeant655 Posted May 5, 2014 #34 Share Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) Has the ice returned to the Martini bar yet . On my South america trip in march they only had ice for 11 out of 28 days. the days it was not on were the first 3 days of the cruise from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso and the entire Valparaiso to Miami cruise. 12 of the 17 days that it was not on were when the ship was in code red. 3 on the first leg and 9 on the second leg. The other 5 days were the only days of the second leg the ship was not in code red. The ice was half the fun of being at the Martini Bar as i enjoyed drawing pictures in it using a stir stick.. The ice and bottles that is place in the middle of the crush table were also missing leaving a big hole in the middle of the table in which i saw a few drinks fall in to. On the SAN to MIA sailing, I don't remember seeing ice or the bottles as I walked by. The display case in the corner was empty for a bit. However, as we walked to the theatre before debarking. The bottles had been added again. The bar could could have had ice leaving San Diego. But, once Code Red was declared, anything we could touch and share was pulled out of reach. I'm still mostly certain that the bug came on in San Diego. We were Code Red the afternoon of the PV stop. We had just stopped in Cabo the prior day. Reading indicates Noro incubation is about two days....

Since we are 11 days, we only have 2 formal nights. Once the cruise hits 14 nights, they bump to 3.
