caribill Posted May 29, 2014 #26 Share Posted May 29, 2014 On our upcoming Alaska cruise the OBC is listed as a "Shore Excursion Credit". None of our excursions have been booked through Princess, all were booked independently. I sure hope we can use this credit towards gratuities, bar tab etc. The small print on the offer says you do not have to use it for shore excursions. Also my reply could not be posted because the website said I had already posted 3 times on that thread today. Since you have posted a lot do you know what happened? Is there a 3 times a day limit? What happened to your post? bluesea321

Hi caribill, I don't have an exact quote but in reference to my post #31 on this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2047667&page=2 you said that the airfare for Houston-FLL should have been about $600 for 2 assuming it was not a last minute purchase and that if I had flown SW there would have been no change fee. I was writing a reply on Word to cut and paste and below is what I had drafted. I was not able to post it since your post had disappeared. Regarding the post limit I was able to post again later last night so I don't know what happened. My reply: Hmmm.... I have not seen Houston-FLL at $300 per person in a long time. I flew in March 2014 at $827 for 2 plus the aforementioned $400 change fee. I flew in early Dec 2013 at $821. Both of these were purchased substantially in advance. You live in League City and apparently fly SW out of Hobby. I live in The Woodlands and IAH is far more convenient, 30 minutes instead of an hour and a half going through town and further South. Regardless out of curiosity I just checked for July 20-27 (a random Sunday-Sunday date 2 months in advance, early am on 7/20, late am or early pm on 7/27, times compatible with cruising): United IAH-FLL at $468 per person, SW Hobby-FLL at $450. The SW return flight (10:15 am as earlier may not be feasible for a ship arrival at 7am) involves a change of planes in Austin. Paying a higher fare to SW would allow a later departure but the only non-stop to HOU is at 7:20pm, a long wait from the ship debarkation. This has been the typical scenario I have found in the past when searching SW. The only advantage for me with SW would be the no change fee however I hardly ever change anyway. I dislike SW "no assigned seat process" and "connecting flights". I dislike United "change fees" (my bags are free just like SW). So I take my poison... and at this time in my life I rather pay a little more for the convenience. I miss the good old days which were not so long ago. In Nov 2009 my wife and I flew Continental IAH-FLL for $525 for both of us. We took a Princess 10 cruise on the Ruby in a mini-suite for $2,754. Those days appear long gone... Sorry for hijacking this thread, :)
millie-may Posted May 29, 2014 #30 Share Posted May 29, 2014 We always get cash back at Passenger Services on the last night of the cruise. There has never been a question or a problem. We did a TA on the Emerald last month and cashed out on the last night. With Stockholders, Military, FCC, and Elite over 31 (plus extras on some cruises) we often begin with +/_ $1000 OBC on a 2 week cruise and seldom find ways to use it all. Do you get an OBC when you have cruised more than 30 times with Princess? We have just reached Elite and wondered if there were any further incentive goals to reach. hansi Posted May 29, 2014 Author #31 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Yes you do. It ranges from $25 to $100 depending on the number of cruises and it's per booking not per person. Sent from my SM-T210 using Forums mobile app

You may want to subscribe to an Internet fare watcher service such as Airfarewatchdog.com which sends you an e-mail everytime there is a sale on the routes you specify. United's change fee (and the same for most other airlines) is punitive. Last year we just did not use a $180 return flight which needed to be changed because United wanted over $500 for the new flight including the change fee (this is for one person). Ended up taking a flight on American instead for less than $200.

swazzie1 Posted May 29, 2014 #35 Share Posted May 29, 2014 I'll make every effort to cash out any leftover OBC before leaving the ship. I had some unused shareholder OBC (stated as non-refundable) on some cruises last September. On the first ship I was told that the extra funds would go to my credit card--like others, I ended up getting a check a few weeks later. On the second ship (the next day), I was stopped from leaving the ship until I went to Passenger Services to get the funds. On the third ship, I cashed out the extra funds at the casino after playing some slots and coming out ahead. I just got off of another ship this month and I cashed out my OBC at Passenger Services once the daily gratuity charge posted--it was 1-night cruise. There shouldn't be a problem getting back unused OBC somehow. Sent using Forums mobile app

It keeps going up but , as I'm not sure about the rest , I can't post. It's not the # of cruises but the number of cruise credits. Not the same thing. 21 - 30 cruise credits $25 onboard cabin credit 31 - 40 cruise credits $50 onboard cabin credit 41 - 50 cruise credits $75 onboard cabin credit 50+ cruise credits $100 onboard cabin credit
