Am I Crazy - 4 people in D1 Cabin on Freedom

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I booked a D1 balcony cabin on Freedom for Dec 14 for 7 day cruise. I got it during 1st sale 3 & 4th free. Total for 4 people with taxes & port fee's was 2200 so 550 per person. I thought that was a fantastic deal.

It would be me, my DD 18, my sister and her DD 18. What do you think? Is this price so good we should deal with inconvenience of too many in a room? Or should I keep looking?

Thank you

Sue

Crazy? Yes! LOL..

Keep looking. 4 Adults in a regular cabin.... 4 women, 1 bathroom.

You want to have a wonderful vacation, and not worry about who's going to shower 1st, and having to wait to get to the bathroom.

If you can swing it, I'd get the extra cabin. I haven't been on the Freedom, but my husband and I went on a 7-day cruise on the NOS a few years back when our kids were 18 and 21. We had a balcony cabin and they had an inside promenade room right across the hall. It worked out great. They stayed out later than we did and slept in longer than we did and everyone had some breathing room. Our trip wouldn't have been as enjoyable if we'd all been in one cabin.

It is definitely doable with 4 woman in a cabin. A few yrs ago I decided last minute to go with 3 very "girly", huge suitcase lugging ladies in a balcony cabin on Carnival pride (not sure if the cabin sizes are comparable). Being a person who HIGHLY values my privacy, I was terrified I that would be miserable. However, other than pre-dinner time, when all of the primping began, it was fine. We all kind of figured out each other's rhythms by day 3 and the balcony REALLY helped with adding space to the room. I happened to peek into the gym showers on day 2 after a workout and that is where I showered for the week. I was only close friends with one of the ladies and barely knew the other 2 and had no problems.

I say save your $$ for things to do outside of the cabin. Believe me, you will most likely not see your daughter and niece until dinner most days anyway :P Either way, have fun!

Don't do it! For Bill and I who are organized and I am a Clean Freak.....It's Perfect....but just for 2 people. I remember a couple of years ago our Family shared a family suite.....2 women, one Dad and 2 kids.....That room was a disaster every time we went there...I felt so sorry for the Room Steward!

Good luck and Keep looking for a great deal on 2 cabins.

We booked the independence for December 14 6 nights E1 balcony on the BOGOHO. Including port charges taxes gratuities and insurance. Diamond plus discounts and military the price came to $1086 for two of us

Don't let all the naysayers scare you away from doing this. Will it be crowded with 4 adult women in the room? Probably. Will only one bathroom for 4 adult women be an issue? Probably. Will you be on vacation, on a cruise ship and having the time of your life? Definitely! The hour or so before dinner it will be hectic in there. The other 23 hours of the day will be fantastic. Don't worry about the one hour, just relax and deal with it. If you look for a reason to have a bad time, you'll find it. If you're not looking, you'll have a great time.

Put me in the do it camp. The 18 year olds will rarely be in the cabin...except on formal night. As long as they start the primp 2 hours ahead, you should be good...and if I remember correctly, they will. Yes, it will be tight with the luggage. Just think of it as a luxury camping trip!

Check and see if one of the corner aft D1s is available...they are double the size, almost the size of a junior suite. I think the cabin numbers are 1400 and 1700. We did our family of four in one of these and it was no problem!

Go and have a good time!

I think there are campers and non campers. If you've camped, any hotel room or cabin feels like a luxury. 2 bathrooms are nice but if you want to save money you can have 4 in a D no problem. People do 4 in an inside and live to tell the tale.

We do 3 in an inside (one a teenage girl, one a big hulk of a man, and me). Don't think we argued once, we just had a bit of a timetable in the evenings but that was all. Sometimes we find 4 or 5 girls getting ready in our room . We ran away as fast as we could.

I guess I'm in the minority. The cost of "real estate" on the ship is a controllable cost, and the more space you rent, the more expensive the vacation is, and it ties up money, to do things, that should be more important, than being in a crowded room. I cruised with two "adult" children in the same room. It was tight at night. But once you lay down, will you notice? Plenty of bed space, but no floor space. But you are only using the bed.

It's not crazy. It's not difficult. It's not a problem, unless you make it a problem, or you dislike the people you are with (sister, and kids?).

I wake up, take a shower, and exit the room. Throughout the day, I visit, use the bathroom, change into or out of bathing suit, and leave. Most of the time, everyone is on a different "schedule" and doing different things. The only real difficult time, is formal night, and everyone wants to do their hair. Just make rules, like, leave the hair alone, and live with it, because really, no one will care but yourself!

My family of 4 has had an inside cabin for the last 10 years. As stated above - if you each need a lot of time in the bathroom you may want two rooms. The only time the four of us were in the room together is when we were in bed. My husband and I got up before the kids and quietly took showers and went to breakfast - we just planned to meet up later in the day. We got ready for dinner first and went to the casino and let the kids get ready or vice versa. We were in the cabin first at the end of the day. It is workable - we just don't stay in the cabin long except to sleep.

I say, go for it. If you don't, how will you ever know? Pack lighter than you normally would. Because, you will have less drawer space and closet space, leave some things in your suitcase, under the bed.

It can work, if you work at it. The money you save, can be blown somewhere else. :)

Have fun!

OP....if you do decide to go with just the one cabin you might want to make use of the showers in the gym/workout area. They are much larger than the cabin showers. There are private stalls and not the "gang showers " you might associate with gym facilities. Just letting you know about another option. Hope your cruise is great!:)

Hi everyone - Thank you for all the words of wisdom.

I did check and even with BOGOHO, the price does go up if we try to get 2 rooms - even 1 balcony and 1 inside. The only way that my sister can afford to go is if we keep the cost down. This would my sister and nieces first cruise. My niece is so excited and this is a belated graduation trip for her.

Also, I checked to see if cabins 1400/1700 were available and all the D1 cabins that accommodate 4 passengers are sold out. Those do look like nice large aft cabins. I'll have to check back to see if they become available because of cancellations.

I'll let you know what we finally decide.

Thank you again. :)

I think it depends on the people going. Is everyone easy going or easily frustrated? Are you light packers? Does anyone need a lot of time to get ready? Is anyone a light sleeper? This could be an issue if you have early birds and night owls. If you're on the fence I would choose two adjoining inside rooms for probably not much more money. The extra bathroom could make a big difference. My husband and I could easily share a room with our easy going 18 year old son but wouldn't go if we had to share with our 22 year old daughter 😁

Throw the suitcases under the bed, two of you volunteer to shower in the gym, and the other two buy you a drink for every time you do have to shower in the gym. You will embark as friends and disembark as friends. It's a vacation...have fun and don't sweat the small stuff (like 4 women sharing a bathroom)

Definitely doable and comfortable in either of those rooms with the full size sleeper sofa. Still only one bathroom though. Lots of closet space and big vanity.
