LuckyZ Posted June 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2014 We just got off the Liberty on June 15th and I believe we were the last Carnival cruise to stop at Tortola for the next few years at least. It's a shame because I think Tortola is one of nicest ports in the Carribean Any thoughts? http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=5581

092306 Posted June 21, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 21, 2014 We went once on our first cruise and I didn't really like it, but i know a lot of folks who do. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
Stateroom_Sailor Posted June 21, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Norwegian is going to start hitting Tortola heavy in 2015, and they've got port docking reconstruction planned. The flip side, I guess they're going to St. Maarten less.
Ykgorbie Posted June 21, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) I will miss Tortola. Been there twice and Cane Garden Bay was one of the nicest beaches we have been to....so quiet, beautiful water, great views....my happy place :) Edited June 21, 2014 by Ykgorbie added picture

Aplmac Posted June 21, 2014 #9 Share Posted June 21, 2014 That entire cluster of Virgin Islands -of all national flavors- is simply stunning! Approach to Havensight, St. Thomas .
sunkey1 Posted June 21, 2014 #10 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Just went there on the Sunshine in May and definitely one of our favorites for a relaxed, uncrowded, pristine beach!
KPfromCT Posted June 21, 2014 #11 Share Posted June 21, 2014 We LOVED Tortola, on the Breeze last year. We took a private excursion over to Jost Van Dyke for the day. It was a slice of heaven:D:D:D The Soggy Dollar Bar was a BLAST, but watch those painkillers.:eek: Hopefully they'll get back there, soon. I would like to do the Baths one day. FireEater Posted June 21, 2014 #12 Share Posted June 21, 2014 I was just looking for a cruise for next November and came across one with this port too. Mind you it was on NCL, but it was one of two ports they are going to I have not been to. What CCL loses, another line gains I guess.

DebJ14 Posted June 21, 2014 #15 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Such a shame. We've been there twice before. First time we went to a beach on Tortola that was lovely and second time we had an awesome trip to Jost Van Dyke. We were hoping for another visit to go to the Baths. Sparky2 Posted June 21, 2014 #16 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Tortola was not my favorite port, but I enjoyed my day there and wouldn't mind going again.
WendyCn Posted June 21, 2014 #17 Share Posted June 21, 2014 We loved Tortola. Glad we got to visit there before Carnival decided not to go there. What a shame!
kimba6539 Posted June 21, 2014 #18 Share Posted June 21, 2014 I absolutely loved going to the Baths. I honestly didnt spend more than 30 minutes on Tortola so I can't say how nice it is. That's sad Carnival will not be stopping there any more. Kim

willy32465 Posted June 21, 2014 #20 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Tortola was one of the reasons we booked the Liberty for 11-28-14 but they cancelled it and are going to San Juan instead. At least they didn't go to Nassau. That would just be another sea day so for us it was a win-win as we love sea days as much as the ports
SpeedsterX Posted June 21, 2014 #21 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Hey Carnival, do everyone a favor and keep Tortola and ditch Nassau! It's a dirty funky island that the only nice place is Atlantis, the Disney $$$ of the Caribbean! Better yet, ditch Nassau for St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Barts! SMSACE6 Posted June 21, 2014 #22 Share Posted June 21, 2014 that is too bad. I would love to go to Tortola. But I am not bound to one cruise line, so maybe some day I will get there.

It's not Carnival, NCL signed an exclusivity contract (along with Disney). We loved Tortola also. Exclusivity contracts are a terrible thing for the island and cruising in general. BUT......while we were a bit disappointed it's all good because we are crusing and that's all that really matters to us....:D
FireEater Posted June 21, 2014 #25 Share Posted June 21, 2014 The Baths in Virgin Gorda are amazing! :D. I would love to go back there. I just looked at a few vids on getting there thru the rock formation. What a trip. Looks pretty rough and tight at a few places just to reach the beach.... Is there treasure at the end of the rainbow?? drinks or snacks being sold? I did not see any on the few vids I watched.....
