Royal moving to Asia

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else feel as though Royal is sending all its best ships to Asia?

I know that where they think the money is right now but the reason they were able to build these newer and better ships is because of all the money they made over here in the United States.

It seems like all the Voyager class will eventually be there. Anthem and Quantum are on the other side of the world(Europe and Asia after Quantum Debuts here). Allure Spends time in Europe. Independence spends time in Europe. Serenade is moving to Asia. and others I cant think of.

Just a bit agravating to see the ships that were essentially built off the business in the US leaving to the other hemisphere while the older ships(nothing wrong with them) stay here

It is disappointing to see virtually the entire Voyager class move away. However, regarding Oasis and Allure, they are only in Europe as a consequence of their dry docks that take place in Rotterdam. I also thought Anthem was coming to Bayonne year round.

Anthem coming to Bayonne is good news. Is that after a season in Southampton?

Yes, I believe Anthem is spending Summer 2015 in Southampton, and then goes to Bayonne in October 2015.

Yes. http://www.royalcaribbeanpresscenter.com/press-release/1095/royal-caribbean-announces-2015-16-deployment-for-new-york-and-galveston/

In order to keep stock prices rising while combating a stagnant Caribbean market, RCCL is turning to emerging markets in Asia. The Asian economy is outpacing that of the west, therefore speculation is for waves of disposable income. RCCL would be remiss if not to explore this opportunity and with some of its groundbreaking ships.

They are committed to keep their customer base content. While some have seen cutbacks and cost-cutting measures implemented the impact on one's overall cruise vacation is minimal. Looking ahead, RCCL will debut two Oasis-class ships and a third Quantum-class.

In case one forgets, the name of the company is Royal Caribbean International, not Royal Caribbean America.
Right - Royal CARIBBEAN International.;)

Of course, I understand the more international movement of their ships. You have to send them where you think the money is or will be to maximize your bottom line. That's what CEO's of publicly held companies are supposed to do for their stockholders.

First and foremost, they are a business. They cannot use a business model that is focused on the past (i.e., rewarding the place in which their business had a lot of previous growth). They need to look to the future, and right now they feel that future is in several international markets.

Always follow the money, regardless of the name of your company. I wouldn't be surprised if Oasis #3 or #4 go to Asia, with a casino worthy of a Las Vegas hotel!

Hey, Goldstein? Did you think of that?

This was never meant to be a debate of business strategy! Or the Company Name.

This was meant as people talking about their feelings towards the best ships not being available.

Not sure why people on these board always feel the need to attack conversation with facts instead of just chatting.

Yes you have to follow money, bottom line, however it sucks to see the best ships in Asia and Europe.

Oh thanks for your comments about Europe, shame the ships you talk of were built here and the company was originally Norwegian .

Our money has kept the company afloat thro the bad times a few years ago as well as yours and we are annoyed too at loosing ships particularly Independance.

The thing is, the best ships are available - just not where you want them to be available.

I didn´t realize you couldn´t book those Cruises from the US:eek:

Do you maybe have a way to book them using an european or asian TA?

I´m glad to be able to book all those ships and I love to have them spread out throughout the world. So many great places to visit and on some great ships too.

I´m more than happy with the way RCI is going.

I think we all realize that you can book a cruise on one of the new mega ships from the US...after all, we aren't stupid. That said, I understand the frustration of the OP. First, not everyone has the time available to fly half way around the world THEN spend a week on a ship...and air fare makes a short cruise impracticle.

The existing markets have allowed the company to grow and provided the need for new and larger ships. If the Asian market is "untapped" it doesn't have to be tapped with all the Quantum class ships. It can also be tapped with one from the Quantum class, one from the Oasis class, one from the Freedom class and one from the Voyager class. After all, it isn't like they aren't already servicing that market now.

There is something to be said about leaving one of the larger ships in Europe full time and one in the Caribbean full time. That allows the existing customer base to be rewarded and tap the new market.

Of course...give the difficulties with booking things on the existing ships via the web site maybe it is best to put the huge ships there. Those new customers don't have anything to compare the service to so they will not get as angry with IT and Customer Support and people who know better.

But yet that is what many Austrailian, Japanese, and Chinese people do. Those folks have to fly halfway around the world to cruise these ships in the Caribbean.

Any thought that some of the people who have been cruising North America all these past years are interested in sailing the big ships in new places. I'm not one of those people, but I'm sure they exist

For a little perspective the Voyager class ships in Asia / Australia are the 2 oldest ships (1st gen Voyager) and the newest one (2nd gen Voyager). The Radiance class that alternates with Alaska is the oldest Radiance class ship. Finally for the Vision class there is the oldest ship (Legend) and a newer one (Rhapsody shared with Alaska) but Rhapsody is heading to Europe leaving only the oldest Vision class.

Yes the Quantum of Solace is coming to Asia but the fleet in the area is not full of the latest ships.

As an aside you should have seen the reaction in Australia to a Voyager class turning up in 2012 when a 13 year old ship was celebrated as amazing and revolutionary.

Sucks for you, great for others. It's all a matter of perspective. How do I feel about it? I feel fine because I would probably do the same thing in their shoes. They don't "owe" the North American market anything IMO.

Besides there will still be at least one ship of every class in the NA market so I don't see how the best ships aren't available.
