Princess Coupon Books

Our Travel agent told us there would be a complementary coupon book in our cabin upon arrival to our room on the Grand Princess in August. What kind of stuff are they for? Does anyone know if the current coupons are anything useful or kind of a waste of paper. Has anyone used them? Thanks!

It is a waste of printed paper. On my last cruise, I had issues with some vouchers. They printed out a complete list of vouchers given to me. The "Travel Agent" coupon book was worth $0.01 (yes, one cent). I am thankful that my TA is so thoughtful, but I have never used the coupon.

We have rarely used them. It usually contains coupons such as a 10 % discount for the shops, extra internet minutes, free slot pull, spa discount, flower discount, photo package, dvd package, etc. Pretty much it is an incentive to make onboard purchases.

To me they're a waste of paper & mostly used as coasters. The only one I used was for $5 off the $25 Maître d' wine tasting with the more expensive wines & better hors d'oeuvres.

Yes coasters!! :(

It always amuses me how it is billed as being worth something in the neighborhood of a $300 value. I've often wondered how much someone would actually have to spend in the purchase of onboard goods and services to realize that value!!

If you are planning to buy something that is in the book, then it's worth it. I used a 10% off a watch a couple of cruises ago and that plus my Elite discount made for a pretty good deal.

OP, think of it this way... it's been given to you for free. Make whatever use of it that you see fit. :)

Used to be, if memory serves, a good deal on coffee cards. No more.
Yeah. One of the coupons was a BOGO for the coffee card but that was eliminated 2-3 years ago. :(

Most of the coupons are useable if you're already planning on buying something. I think there's a casino coupon some people like but I can't remember what it is. (I've never been to the casino.) There's a coupon for a discount on a $150 bottle of wine. The 10% coupon for something purchased in the shops is probably the most generally useable. Otherwise, they're good as coasters or even a door stop.

There are two different coupon books and I think both have been discussed in this thread.

One is a book every passenger gets.

One is the "travel agent" book which is really supplied by Princess.

Both are essentially worthless.Anytime there was a decent coupon such as the BOGO coffee card, it disappeared the next year.

Some examples from the book everybody gets:

o Free Bingo keychain when you purchase a $40 Bingo Pack

o Save 30% on a Vinturi wine aerator with purchase of a wine flight

o Save an extra 15% off a purchase of $250 or more in fragrances and cosmetics

My wife loves them, although this means spending money.

I never used them. They are useless to me, too.

Gone is the free coffee tumbler (metal and very nice) with a purchase of a coffee card on the day embarkation. That was probably the best one that they ever included.

Sometimes they have that coffee tumbler available at a discounted price of $5 when purchasing the coffee card at the International Café. It's not promoted but if you ask them you may be able to purchase one which is cheaper than buying it at the gift shop.

Yes, we used ours as coasters but we did find another use. We would eat outside on the Sun. Sometimes the table was a bit wobbly so we would stick a folded up piece of the coupon book under the table leg.

We do not have much time for any TA who makes a big deal out of a coupon book.

Yes, my once-free tumbler now goes with me on every cruise! I don't recall ever using a coupon for anything else.

I realize that you can but one- lol! We were talking about coupons. Cruisers used to have a coupon for a free one, if you bought your coffee card on the first day of sailing.

One thing that I have observed, the staff is seriously responsible for the inventory of these coffee tumblers. A cruiser tried to sweet talk the staff member, and was promptly told that the tumblers were counted.

Serious control on the soda tumblers as well.

Also the stickers/cards themselves.

Very serious. Each location has to account for every tumbler. When I boarded the Sapphire last March, I went to Alfredo's for a pizza for lunch and purchased a soda card. Didn't notice that I didn't get a tumbler. Later in the day, I was walking past the Horizon Court and saw the table selling stickers so I showed my sticker and asked for a tumbler. I was told I had to go back to where I purchased it. Ugh! Went back down to Alfredo's where they checked the receipts and told me I'd refused the tumbler. Someone lied 'cause that didn't happen. They finally gave me a tumbler but it wasn't easy. Edited by Pam in CA

I remember those free tumbler & BOGO coupons but didn't know if you or others were aware that the tumblers are still available to purchase at a discount but only when purchasing the coffee card.

We have four unused coupon books we received on the Caribbean Princess in June. If anyone would like to have one (or more) of them, I am happy to mail them to you. Please email me with your address and I will get it out tomorrow.

Enjoy your weekend!
