kate23 Posted August 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Are the chains still available for purchase (sailing Oasis)? I have read a few older threads regarding chains sold by the inch. General consensus seems to be stay away from the gold. Does anybody know if silver chains are available and are they any better as far as quality? If so, will they attach a clasp? Thanks, Kate

bouhunter Posted August 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Chains by the inch has been on every Royal ship we've been on. Us too. Never bought any. Some people love it, some hate it and swear it's junk......
iancal Posted August 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2014 They are on all the ships. Electroplated. There must be extremely good margin in them since they are on all mass market lines.
gerif Posted August 13, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2014 On the upside, they will replace them when they tarnish. So if you cruise a lot, you can just keep getting replacements.

They do stand by that claim. I have had one chain replace 2 times over the years..
gerif Posted August 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 13, 2014 just like the Invicta watches, do you go to a ship to by your jewelery or do you go to a jewelery store? you get what you pay for Hardly in the same category. You wouldn't go to a jewelry store to buy cheap costume jewelry. The chains by the inch are inexpensive but fun for some.

Thanks, Kate Silver is not any better quality than the gold as its also only electroplated. The chains are not sold gold or solid silver. kate23 Posted August 13, 2014 Author #11 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Thanks for all the info. I just received a beautiful necklace for my anniversary on Monday but the silver chain is too short. We are leaving Friday for our cruise and I just wanted to know if I could get a chain on board. Looks like I'll be heading to Kay jewelers today to get a longer chain as I want to wear it on the cruise. So many things to do... :-)
nolimits Posted August 13, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 13, 2014 That's great site but when we replaced or had repaired jewelry on ship it was like getting a hole new vacation present (cheap Irishman LOL).

leo72976 Posted August 13, 2014 #14 Share Posted August 13, 2014 We have been buying Inch of Gold/Silver since our first cruise in 1996. We have cruised 23 times and only I a small problem with Inch of Gold once. We brought it with us on the next cruise and they replaced it at no charge with no questions asked. I have never had any of it tarnish or discolor. My wife is already thinking about what to buy on our next cruise!
Marie51 Posted August 14, 2014 #15 Share Posted August 14, 2014 I have a few pieces of "gold by the inch" that I purchased on cruises over the past several years. I have never had it tarnish or discolor. I realize it is just cheap stuff. The problem arises when passengers mistake it for real gold(which they do believe it or not). It is what it is. ERIE 13 Posted August 14, 2014 #17 Share Posted August 14, 2014 My wife has bought at least a half dozen gold bracelets going back to the 90's and they all look like new today. A clasp did break on one of them and they repaired it on our next cruise. At a dollar or two an inch it is what it is. But they all look good on her when she has them on. Good to know! I won a silver necklace/bracelet set in the casino 7 years ago and they're both tarnished now. I'm definitely going to take them with me on my upcoming cruise. :D
Adayatatime Posted August 14, 2014 #19 Share Posted August 14, 2014 I buy a cheap bracelet on every cruise. By the time I reach 80 I want no room left on either arm.
