dongordon Posted August 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2014 I am searching for CC member information on the port of Puntarenas on my Panama Canal Cruise. What Port Category is it listed? South America? Panama Canal? Mexican Riviera? Please tell me where to find this information. Don

fishywood Posted August 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2014 (edited) Punta Arenas (two words). Part of South America. Keith Keith, you are confusing Puntarenas, Costa Rica with Punta Arenas, Chile. Costa Rica has its own sub-board listed under Caribbean: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=198 Information for Puntarenas, Costa Rica is interchangable with that for Puerto Caldera which is merely the opposite side of the same harbor offering identical tours and such. (Only difference is that you tender at Puntarenas but dock at Puerto Caldera). Edited August 20, 2014 by fishywood

Nebr.cruiser Posted August 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 20, 2014 There needs to be a separate heading for Central America under the ports of call boards, IMO. It can be difficult to find info about Central American ports, as not all are listed (Nicaragua, for instance) and those that are, like Costa Rica, can be confusing. For instance, who would think to look for Punta Arenas (Costa Rica) under the Caribbean heading, since it is not on the Caribbean, but the Pacific? Sometimes I can find info under the Panama Canal heading, but you have to wade through a lot of non-relevant posts.

I took fishywoood's advice and posted on the website suggested. I hope I can get an answer since most people that have visited Punterenas are unlikely to find the CC forum with Punterenas listed as I did. Treven Posted August 20, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 20, 2014 (edited) On my Panama Canal cruise, Puntarenas Costa Rica was my most favorite area, outside of the canal of course. Edited August 20, 2014 by Treven
CPT Trips Posted August 20, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 20, 2014 On my Panama Canal cruise, Puntarenas Costa Rica was my most favorite area, outside of the canal of course. It was right up there in my book too. I usually arrange tours independently, but is took a ship's tour there because I could not find much information, and what I did find involved longish rides. The ship tour was great.
flamomo Posted August 20, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 20, 2014 For Puntarenas, Costa Rica in March of this year, we did the Princess ships' tour to the rainforest and rode the aerial tram. LOVED it!!
Treven Posted August 21, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) For Puntarenas, Costa Rica in March of this year, we did the Princess ships' tour to the rainforest and rode the aerial tram. LOVED it!! I took that one as well, really liked it. Plus we were taken out on the river almost out to the ocean, then back up the river and got to see some 'gators or perhaps they were crocodiles. A few were major BIG! While out on the river we got rained on then we dried out, then back to the ship in the air conditioned bus and I came down with a major cold. I'd never thought about it so I didn't bring along any cold meds such as NyQuil or DayQuil; the gift shop prices for these sure are high. I learned my lesson tho.
