Celebrity over Thanksgiving

Hello all

My family and I have booked a 10 night cruise on the Equinox over Thanksgiving break. Has anyone with kids done a longer cruise on the line?

We have a 10 and 15 year old.. the itinerary is great , I'm just hoping there will be other families onboard at this time.. i have joined the roll call but not seen lots of evidence of families.

i guess I'm just wanting any input from others who may have sailed on longer cruises which traditionally dont have lots of kids sailing.. we have cruised Princess, RCL, HAL but wanted to try Celebrity this time..

Any feedback would be appreciated..

We have sailed with our twin DDs 9 days over Thanksgiving and 14days over Christmas - sometimes it depends upon how the days line up - if it includes both weekends and the kids are off Thursday and Friday (mine are off Wednesday before Thanksgiving as well). Then they are only missing two or three days of school. I would do that again in a second.

We wish for a lot of kids so ours can make friends - but then it gets pretty busy - Many years ago (my first life) - we cruised and were seated at dinner with a family with their son who shared my son's birthday -10 years old. Both loved video games and were best friends by the end of day 2. They didn't care if there were 100 or 2 other kids on board!

I was asking about the number of kids on the Thanksgiving day cruise on Grandeur, and last year they had about 150, and that was a 10 day cruise. With homeschooling on the rise in many areas, you will often find kids on some of these longer cruises over Thanksgiving. I know I was bummed that ours was only 8 days - I would have booked the 10 day if it was offered :).

Enjoy your cruise.

Thank you. I usually also contact the cruise line to find out how many children are sailing. Celebrity cruises have said that they do not give this information out???

I got this information from someone who had sailed on last year's cruise. I posted on the roll call after they got back :).

But, it is true - some lines will not or cannot give out this information ahead of time. RCI rep told me that their screens do not show total number of passengers by age, so there is no way for them to find this data - I think it depends on how their systems are setup. I emailed the concierge a few weeks before our cruise, and he checked with the kids club manager about 2 weeks before our cruise about the total numbers of kids in our son's age group. He gave me what they were, or at least how many they knew about at that point in time.

ok, this was the first time i heard they couldnt give info so now i realize each line is different! i could also try emailing the concierge and see how successful this would be for me... Thanks again :-)

No problem - if Celebrity has the same crack IT team that RCI uses, I would lean more towards the reps do not have access to view this data vs. not being allowed to tell you...lol

I too was checking this line out. RC allows a lot of smoking interior and my kids have asthma so I ready that Celebrity doesn't allow any interior smoking just a spot or 2 exterior. So this is another alternative to Disney since they too are almost all non smoking.

So if I am looking at Easter will my girls 14&11 have any friends to make ? Also anyone have any knowledge of the kids programs and what the ships have for the kids?

When my daughter was in elementary school and middle school we always cruised the week of American Thanksgiving (mostly Hawaii or Mediterranean). RCCI, NCL, Celebrity -- seven cruises mostly 7 or 10 day - one 12 day.

Since her school had three and 1/2 days off the week of Tgiving and generally had a 1/2 day the Friday prior to Tgiving week. She'd generally end up missing 2 to 3 full days of school and 2 half days of school. Many schools have extended Tgiving holidays. And we discovered on the Med cruises, most of the "American" schools that ex-pats send their kids to in Europe have at least a week off for American Tgiving. For the European sailings there were always quite a few school-aged kids on board. For the HI cruises, it was generally one of the lines' busiest sailings for kids.

Celebrity typically does have a few fewer kids than RCCI or Princess. And a 10 day will have fewer than a 7 day. But in our experiences there have always been plenty of kids and kid's activities on a US Tgiving cruise.

Royal Caribbean only allows smoking in the casino and a designated area outdoors. I don't consider that a lot. :confused:Royal Caribbean's smoking policy
