Getting off after embarkation.

Absolutely. Just be aware that if on board time is 3:30pm, muster might actually take place at 3:15pm. It used to be easier when the ships sailed at 5pm and muster was at 4:15pm.

Thanks. Hopefully, I can get checked in early enough to get away for an hour.

We once got off the Caribbean Princess at 3:00 in South Hampton to run into town and buy wine. Since we had to be back on board at 4:00 p.m., we really had to hurry. It took us 12 minutes to walk to the store, 8 minutes in the store and 12 minutes to walk back. We were golden but they were all worried about us when we left the ship. ;)

Of course, by that time there were no lines so we just walked straight back on to the ship.

Just remember there may be practical limitations to this like getting in and out of the crowded terminal, etc.

If you are at one of the further terminals, you will need to get a taxi to the shops and back again, it's an awfully large port.

Sorry. Fort Lauderdale.

No problem getting off. You do have to come back through

security screening when you return, so don't return too early,

or you will be waiting in a line for that.

I almost always get off in Ft. Lauderdale, and then try and return

after 2:00PM when security line is small.

If your ship is at berth 2/berth 4, it is super easy walk to walgreens,

and 10-15 minute walk to other stores.

If your ship is at another berth, you will probably have to take a

cab each way -- it is quite a walk out of the port, and very industrial

with no sidewalks.

Depending on where you are from, and the season, you may find

Ft. Lauderdale uncomfortably hot and humid. I met one couple

from Northern California. They walked to publix in July. That

wiped them out for the rest of the day.

If someone is meeting you in Fll after a cruise, will there be a problem for anyone picking you up at the cruise port?

I know they would have to show their ID's etc.

You need a government (or cruise line) issued picture id for each adult

in the car, and the name of the ship you are going to,

to enter Port Everglades. Don't bring any weapons.

If your ship is at berth 2/4, it is usually very easy.

If your ship is at berth 21, it might be easier for the cruise

passengers to walk towards the mid-port parking garage

and meet you there. When there are a lot of ships around

21, it can be a very slow process to make a loop through

there.

If your ship is at berth 29, coordinate with your passengers

to drive by when they are at the curb, as there is no place

there to wait.

There is a cell-phone waiting lot within the port.

Can you still walk from berth 2 to 17th Street area now that the gate at 17th has been closed?

We got onboard a ship in Singapore. We then turned on our GPS and realized there was a geocache 500 feet away that we just had to get. Retrieving our passports was not easy and took awhile. We finally got them, walked off the ship, found the cache and reborded. Finding the cache and rebording was easy, getting off was quite a process.

When we took our back-to-back cruises on the Ruby last year, we waited until after lunch in the dining room to restock our wine at Total Wine. By the time we got back to the port, the lines weren't too bad. I could easily see doing this the day we board the ship for the first time--but we're usually too excited about the start of the cruise to want to leave the ship.
