Would love to hear about Grandeur of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Just booked a cruise on Grandeur of the Seas. Can anyone tell me some things you liked about this ship? I know it was just refurbished, Thanks for any info!!

She is a great ship with an excellent crew. If you like a lot of specialty dining options she has Chops, Giovanni's Table, Izumi, as well as the Chef's Table in addition to the MDR and Windjammer. There also is the Park cafe for a nice selection of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night snack items.

Along with the standard ship's production company and guest entertainers, the entertainment includes a Centrum Aerial act along with a pool side big screen for movies and sports, etc.

There also is a Diamond Club for higher tier C & A members as well as a Concierge Club for suite guests. All of the staterooms are nicely appointed and updated with the refurbishment.

We have completely enjoyed the three times we've sailed on her and will sail on her again.

We were on her for our very first cruise in March. Service, entertainment, & crew were very good. I loved it so much I have booked 3 more cruises on her. There was so much for us to see &/or do. I have to go back to see what I missed! We did ship's excursions at every port, thankfully, because if you are late getting back, the ship will wait for you. We were 1 hour late at one port & they left as soon as we were on board. Enjoy your cruise. I know that your enjoyment is what you make of it so don't be afraid to explore & participate.

I agree with everything that was said, plus Baltimore has the easiest embarkation and debarkation. They have it down to a science. Also, sailing down the Chesapeake is a great experience. It takes about 8-9 hrs to get into open waters. The shops and casino open up about 3 miles away from port.

Love that ship so much, we have 2 cruises booked for November, and not a B2B. :p Plus we've cruised on her several times before.

You will not be disappointed.

I have cruised Grandeur and her Vision Class sister ship Enchantment and I'll have to say I prefer Grandeur. She just feels like the right size for us.

Enchantment, as you probably know, was "stretched." Cabins were added but most public spaces including the main show lounge remained the same. That may translate to some overcrowded venues. On the other hand, it's hard to beat Enchantment when it comes to her ample pool deck space.

Grandeur also seems to have a very happy crew. We're looking forward to spending ten days aboard come April. :)

Don't forget to check out Grandeur's observation deck all the way forward. Great for star gazing!

Hi Cindy.....no, we get back that day. We leave on Nov. 1 and then again Nov. 29th. Also Feb. 3, 2015 and Dec.9, 2015. I am sure there will be one somewhere in between the Feb. and Dec. cruise next year.

Would be nice to see you again too. Several of us are returning on the Feb. 3rd. cruise. Maybe you can join in too.

Sorry for hijacking this thread. But, it is about the Grandeur and how much we love it. ;)

Question for anyone who has stayed on Deck 8. We are looking at a possible GS and would like to know if there is noise from above. Thanks!

Hi Scooter90,

We have stayed on deck 8 in Grand Suite and yes there is some noise, but it was not that bad.

We have stayed on Deck 8 and occasionally we heard pool chairs or towel carts, but not at bedtime, fortunately.

Sailing on the Grandeur for our 3rd time in January. Love the ship and the more personalized service that comes with a smaller ship. Still plenty to do onboard or just relax in the Solarium where the Park Cafe is housed.

What a breeze sailing out of Baltimore....lots of historical sights, including Fort McHenry and sailing under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

I just booked our first cruise EVER!! and it is on the Grandeur on deck 8. We don't have a GS, but a large interior room which appears to be directly under the whirlpools... I am a little concerned. Any experience with those?

That might not be too bad. We also sailed on Grandeur in GS on deck 8, and the noise we mostly heard was deck chairs being moved (dragged across deck) - so, if there are no deck chairs above you cabin, it might be a bit quieter. Similar to the PP, we heard a little noise, but it was not that bad.

I'll be on the Grandeur in February.

This thread has me very excited.

This is a very nice thread and has us excited too. We will be on her January 6 to Jan. 16. It has been years since we have been on an RCI cruise ship. Our first cruise was our honeymoon cruise 30 years ago on the Song of Norway, which we loved. It was to be the "trip of a lifetime" for our honey moon. We have taken at least one (but usually two or three) "trip of a lifetime" every year since then.

For those of you who have sailed her, what are some of the secrets of the ship? We know about the aerial shows, but what else should we know? We will be Diamond on this ship.

We stayed in a GS and loved the GS, with the single exception of the uncomfortable furniture. The side chair had no back support, and the sofa was situated so you couldn't watch the television while sitting on the sofa. I found the JS furniture on the other vision class ships we've sailed more comfortable. Lots to recommend a GS though, loved the floorplan. Also, comparing the room sizes at RoyalCaribbean.com, the GS on Vision Class is actually a few feet larger than the GS on Voyager class!

We were disappointed w/ the room service. To get the special suite items we learned later, you had to order them "while the other restaurants were open." Since we were using room service before an early shore excursion, we didn't get all we ordered. Also, we ordered meals during both formal nights, and I found my "filet" tough, burned and overcooked. The fries obviously came from the freezer. DH said, in the dining room, we can at least reject bad food. We'd planned in-suite dining on this cruise because my husband had a full arm cast and couldn't dress up.

We loved the two sinks, and the nice large bathroom. Also, no high step into the bathroom. Our concierge sent us a bottle of wine mid-cruise, and he also emailed us the week before our cruise.

Suite breakfast in Giovanne's was wonderful!

Bring your own books! DH said that the so called library on Grandeur was the worst he's seen in 21 cruises. Only a shelf and a half. Usually he visits the library four times in a week, but not this cruise.

Not sure if this is typical of Suites, but our Suite Concierge took us from the Concierge Lounge all the way down to deck 1.

This will be our first time on Granduer as well, but we have to wait all the way until April 2016 when we get to board her! So far we have a group of 11 I think booked, would love to get more, but the prices are just going up vs the deal we got when we booked.

We will be on deck 8 as well in a panoramic ocean view....my first ocean view!!

Those who have stayed on deck 8, do you feel much motion?

We will also have our daughters with us who will be 3 and 5.5 at the time and I really hope they enjoy Adventure Ocean as there really wont be much more for them to do on the ship other than swim....its a 10 day cruise too!

Our son enjoyed Adventure Ocean. We took him on his (and our) first cruise last year on Grandeur - you can see our review and the AO compasses in my signature (need to login from PC, not the app to see the links). The pool is kind of divided, so the shallow portion is great for little kids (if they are out of diapers). Our son lived there. Also, our son did not like MDR, but we found a few tables just outside WJ where you had great views of the ocean. We ate there almost every night. It was also close to the free ice cream machine - we all loved that, a bit too much...lol

We hit some rough water just outside Chesapeake Bay, and there was some motion - we were on deck 8 forward. Based on the comments we heard, the motion was felt throughout the ship. I loved deck 8, so close to pool deck. If you are in panoramic, you are near Centrum, so there may be a little noise during events. But, you are in the middle of ship, so short walk to forward where WJ and Adventure Ocean, and short walk aft to Spa, Solerium, MDR, theatre, etc.

Enjoy your cruise - you have a long wait, but it will pass quickly. We booked our Thanksgiving cruise last Oct, and we finally board tomorrow. :)

Did you have one of the GS's with a connecting door? We also found the location of the TV weird, but our young son would lay on the couch and watch his videos on the TV just fine. I saw pictures of this cabin without the connecting door, and it looked like the TV was mounted in center of room by the sliding glass door, so it could be watched from couch or sofa.

When we sailed, suite breakfast was in Chops. I am eager to try it at Giovanne's.

I heard that the library was bigger, but it was relocated and shrunk during dry dock.

For your last comment, was this for disembarking? This is suite perk.
