I'm glad someone else asked about the seahorse bites...I felt kinda "dumb"....hehe

When I am finally on her I will see them and smile at the fact that everyone said that and I didn't know what the heck they were talking about.

I will be careful!!!:)

Can anyone give me "the best & the worst" about the Victory? We will have a mix of veteran and new cruisers and I want to pass along info that will help them out (and me too!)

Thanks!:p

We sailed on the Victory in 2001 and it is our favorite ship so far. We cruise on the new Liberty next month. Don't know if the two are the same class ships, but at least some of the Liberty's layout remind us of the Victory. Enjoy your cruise!

...I have definatley read the warnings on the sea horse bites. I can already picutre myself rolling my eyes at myself after the first bite I get...and thinking "Oh, THIS is what they're talking about"!....

And (in my case at least), wondering two days later "Where the heck did this bruise come from?!?!"

The aft wrap around cabins are to die for.

I'm hungry right now!!! I'll have to not eat any thing for a week prior to the cruise so i can sutff myself!

Everyone loved it on the Triumph but I thought it sucked. Tasted like something I took out of the freezer at home. Not so good.:(

Best: Lots and lots of lounge chairs & deck room for sunning!! No need to reserve one - there were always plenty. The sushi bar on Deck 5 - very yummy! The evening movies on Deck 10 - bring a blanket and stretch out under the stars for a good movie!

Worst: The photographers. I don't mind having my picture taken, but it is ridiculous on this ship! Not only are you stopped getting off the ship everytime, but walking around on Deck 5 you get hassled everywhere! Between the waiters selling drinks & the photographers, it gets annoying.

Those dang seahorses! I have several bruises from being attacked. It's funny, your acouple levels away and you hear "oh @#$%" and you know the seahorses have attacked yet again......

Okay I still don't get the Seahorse thing! There located at the end of a stairwell and what does that have to do with anything? Maybe I'm having a blonde moment or something?

My BF wants to do the 7 Night Southern Itinerary on this ship for next September.

You will find that when you are in a hurry to get to the Lido Deck for your next snack, you might take a corner too quick around the stairs and those little suckers will jump out and bite you! ;) LOL!

Absolutely the truth! The first few days - not a problem - taking the stairs at a normal pace - but try and dash around those corners and watch out - I came home with some 'souvenirs' on my legs I could have done without!

And the best is the atrium - love the blue sea green colors - very ocean-like!

Just back from Norfolk to Bahamas. First time on Carnival.

Liked:

Large cabins. Shows were really good- better than NCL, RCCL, HAL & Celebrity. I thought the food in dining room, for dinner was good- nice, big filet mignon, chateau briand, lobster. Not pretentious by any means- truly a fun ship with lots of bars-- and loved the band in the casino each night. Ship was super smooth, hardly fealt the motion of the ocean (except for the last night in a nor'easter).

Disliked:

Ship fealt dark & dreary inside. Had to go down to deck 3 to get outside to a promenade deck-- overall layout did not flow well at all. I did not like the pool areas- the pools were not central to the deck- but fealt wedged under walls, jumbo tv, etc. I found myself frustrated trying to find an ocean view on this ship! We had rooms on the Riviera deck, #1. I'm familiar with the sewage smell on other ships-- but this one smelled like garbage-- the whole time- almost like rotting cole slaw. Thank goodness for lysol. We never ate at the buffets because the crowds were horrible. We tried to sit outside in the back- had pizza or burgers for lunch. Oh- and the pizza lines were ridiculous- they should just make a bunch & have them ready. I think the food situation was poor for the number of people onboard. We also got room service in our room 1 day for lunch to avoid all the people. It took an hour but the "mediterranean buffet area" is just unbelievably frustrating. The public restrooms were way too small for the amount of people in the public areas and were filthy & stinky- the entire trip.

On our last night, it was very rough- I don't get seasick, but others do. I walked through a huge pile of throw up- which I could not see- because the floors are black, shiny & have little pieces of seashells mixed in. It blended right in- and I almost fell in it. It was in the atrium, deck 5 at the entrance to the casino. I told the casino manager about it -approx 11:15pm. I told someone else serving drinks about it at 11:45pm. I was actually getting frustrated when they simply dragged a chair to the mess to block it off. At around midnight, I went to the casino manager again & told them to get some towels or a mop-- vomit should not be in a public area for so long. It was still there, blocked by 2 chairs, over an hour later. How hard is it to mop up or get some towels? This incident gave me a bad feeling about the ship & Carnival.

Self Assist was a nightmare. Everyone did it, so think twice. We meandered SLOWLY through the hallways for about an hour trying to get off the ship. Not sure if it was the port or what. But I'd never do that again.

The deck layout for the dining rooms is a little weird. I don't recall which deck they are on, but if you want to go from the Aft dining room to the Midship dining room, you have to go up a flight of stairs, walk about a third the length of the ship, and then go back down to the deck you came from. Not a big deal, but definitely a little weird.
I started reading and though the OP Was nuts - asking about the Victory when she was on her in 2006, then I realized this is a resurrected thread! I'll be checking dates more carefully from now on :)
I noticed that I posted in this thread - three years and six cruises ago! And three of those additional cruises were on Victory (easy cruise out of NYC). I don't have a problem with Victory's layout (which is what my original post in this thread was about); however, I think the Conquest-class ships are a definite improvement as far as the Lido buffet options go. While there are lines for the buffet on Conquest-class ships, Victory's lines were noticeably longer because of the fewer options. I also like some of the additions that Conquest-class ships have, like the supper club and the deck 5 teen area (I can spy on the kids easier:p).

Looking back now, after four Victory cruises and probably none for the future (I'm not interested in the port-intensive Southern itinerary), a few thoughts:

- Victory probably has the ugliest dining rooms of any of the ships we've sailed. I don't like the mermaids at all. Fortunately, I don't sail for the ship's decor.

- The Ionian Lounge is my all-time favorite ship's lounge. (When I last posted in this thread, I didn't even know the Ionian Lounge existed - we didn't find it until our second Victory cruise.) Wonderfully comfortable chairs and great jazz. I like the piano bar as well - it's fashioned after an Irish pub.

- You can learn to peacefully co-exist with the seahorses. Just don't take the corners on the stairs too fast and they won't bite. I've even learned to like them - they have a lot more personality than the rather plain (but not potentially harmful) banisters on other ships.

LOL! Ok, I'm beginning to dislike sea horses....Although your cam took a great pic, I'm thinking that they are some ugly decor.....
In about 6 days I get to see them for real....

OMG - the dreaded seahorses!!! Sent shivers down me at the thought of more attacks on unsuspecting victims!

It's going up the stairs that got me attacked! Start out on the bottom just boarding and by the time your up to Deck 10, huffin & puffin and tryin to cut corners.....BAM! Another bruised thigh......

I had just about decided that the board needed an "All Things Victory" thread, but I kept searching and found this.

I hope some recent cruisers on the all-port Southern itinerary will add to it.

When i sailed Glory in May, I was expecting it to be an ordeal, just navigating the ship. I really don't know what the big deal is. I was used to Fantasy-class ships, which also have the galley between the dining rooms. If you know the galley is there before you board, or are capable of looking at the deck plans, it really shouldn't be such an issue.

Will all ports, I don't expect to be eating lunch on board very often, if at all. I do like the omelettes from the breakfast buffet in the morning and am willing to wait in line to get them.

I'm really excited about this cruise. After our day stop in San Juan last December on Miracle, DD & I decided we HAD to return. Hope to arrive the day before we sail and stay a couple of days post-cruise. All those ports are going to be exhausting, so I'll need to stay there to recuperate, after all! :D

Am going to try to keep it a secret from DD as it's going to be a college graduation present to her (and to me since I've paid for it all).

If anyone has links to recent photos, I'd also appreciate those.
