What shall I do regarding the upgrade ?

Received mail from Princess yesterday afternoon about upgrade our cabin to P310.

I told the Princess agent within 2 hours after I received the mail that we decline the upgrade and want to stay in our original cabin. She said that she would fill out the form for me.

 

This afternoon I got another mail that showed our stateroom has change to P310 in Cruise Personalizer and I talked to Princess again after more than 30 minutes waiting and was told I have to wait until next Monday to check the Personalizer and call them again.

 

I though that we have 48 hours window to decide and we won't lose our original cabin. Did they already gave our cabin away ?

The reason we decline the upgrade because we both are light sleeper and early riser and that cabin is right under the Casino.

 

What a big head ache, what else can I do ?

This is unfortunate and frustrating. I had a similar experience. My upgrade was from a nice carib deck balcony cabin to a noisy aloha deck under the Horizon court and pool area.

I was given the same instructions. Finally, because it was just a short cruise to get away..... I asked them to cancel my booking all together. I was prepared to go another time. I did not want to take the chance and be miserable in a noisy "upgraded" cabin with smaller balcony.

I was asked to wait on the phone... when the rep. returned I was assured I had my original booking.

I was taken of the upgrade list.

Some "upgrades" are really not. One needs to review the deck plans before accepting. Bumped all the way forward or under a noisy deck is not an upgrade. IMHO

Based on other posts about this cabin location I would suspect that unless someone hits a big jackpot and goes berserk you won't hear anything from the casino above you. Good luck and have a great cruise whatever you end up doing.

You didn't say what ship. Recently came back from 11 days on the Star in a cabin below the casino. No noise issues at all, and Plaza's one of my favorite locations on a ship. So what I would do is relax.

The department that will reassign your cabin is a Monday to Friday department... they're not in on weekends, so nothing can be done until tomorrow. That's why the first person you spoke to filled out the form.

I've got a Deck 12 forward cabin on my upcoming Golden cruise...

And I've got it marked "Do Not Upgrade"...mostly because we are cruising with my sister and brother-in-law and they have the cabin next to ours...

 

When I paid my fare in full a couple of weeks back, the Princess agent noted that I had "No Upgrade" and asked if I wouldn't rather be considered for an upgrade...that, based on my loyalty status and how the bookings were selling on this cruise, there was a good chance I'd get upgraded...

 

I pointed out that we had neighboring cabins, but asked what sort of upgrade I could have expected...and she said "same balcony but probably more midship on a different deck"...

 

I was looking at the available cabins on my cruise and there were a good number of balcony cabins left...Most were as far aft or forward as mine...hard to see where we would have improved much...So, I said just leave us with

"No Upgrade"...

 

A couple of days ago, someone on our roll call posted that they had been "upgraded"...What they wrote was: "We were on Aloha deck 12 aft, cabin A739 and they have moved us to Lido deck 14 midship, cabin L259"...

 

Well...L259 isn't really "midship"...Nothing on the Lido Deck is midship...They are all, basically, forward cabins...

I thought about it...Would I have been happy moving to THAT cabin? It's only six cabins more midship that where we are...But, rather than being under other cabins, it is below the Sun Deck near the Tradewinds Bar and entry to the Spa...If it were on the other side of the ship in the same general area, it could put you right under the kids and teen programs...

 

Of course, on my cruise, they still haven't sold THIRTY of the Suites...If they wanted to upgrade me to one of THOSE (well, 26 of those--not the "Window Suites" on Deck 6), then I'd take it!

What you're looking for is called a "meta upgrade only." This refers to upgrades from one cabin category to another - inside to oceanview, oceanview to balcony, balcony to mini-suite, etc.

 

They won't offer this as an option unless you specifically ask for it. Though it won't solve your problem of wanting to keep cabins together.

Sometimes cabin changes don't make sense. Whether the no upgrade option has been selected or not.

 

I had booked a cabin with an outside view about 2 cabins away from family members we were traveling with (daughter and son in law). I clearly marked the cabin as no upgrade, which was confirmed by Princess.

 

All was okay until I arrive at the pier and found they had moved my cabin to the other side of the ship and down the hall quite a bit and in a location not at all conveniently located to the family members we were cruising with. It was too late to make a change while on the cruise but when I returned I called Princess and was told that we were moved so that a family traveling together could have two cabins close together. I told them that didn't make sense to move us, since we were a family group traveling together with our reservations linked and also marked as no upgrade to both cabins...so how was it fair to move our family group further apart so another family could have two cabins close together?

 

The Princess rep after looking into the matter confirmed that I was correct in my information and that we shouldn't have been moved. We were offered cruise credit toward a future cruise to compensate for their mistake.

 

It worked out in the end, but sometimes it seems when cabins are moved, it doesn't always make a lot of sense. And I agree, an upgrade is not always a true upgrade.

 

I definitely recommend marking the cabin as no upgrade if traveling with friends or family you want to be close to.

They have it - it is called Meta. It allows you to go only from one type of category to another like balcony to mini suite or mini suite to suite. I am surprised your TA did not advise you of it.

I would stay where you are. I was Deck 11 forward on the Golden last week, and was very pleased with the cabin. I was a bit concerned about being that far forward (in the low 200s), as some ships have a rough ride up front, but no problems at all with motion this trip.

Many people like the Plaza cabins for their convenience to the IC and MDRs, but I will warn light sleepers that they can get a fair amount of noise from the stabilizers and bow thrusters.

Love Plaza deck.......also great for those port intensive itineraries.

You're just a deck or two away from the gangway or tender boats, great especially after a long day in port.

Haven't noticed much ship noise and there's very little foot traffic.

If you cannot get your old cabin back, ask to move to P309 or 307, they are under suites and very quiet, we were in p309. it was convenient to the cafe, mdr etc and good for port days.

we were "upgraded" from Emerald mid to plaza forward, originally under the casino and with the 2 pulll down sleepers, i could not get old cabin back, but did manage to move to this one and it was fine.

Also the stabilisers are deep in the keel well below the much louder engine room. You would have better chances of hearing cotton landing on felt than hearing the stabiliser on a ship.

I always mark the "no upgrade" option but on my cruise next month I discovered Princess had "upgraded" me from a caribe extra large balcony for a balcony right beneath the HC! Luckily I caught in time and was able to switch back to a caribe cabin near my old one. Always check your cabin assignment online from time to time for any changes.

 

Although the bow stabilizers don't move, the water rushes over them as the ship moves forward making a noise. Since they extend out from the ship they will generate more noise than the ship hull moving through the water.

On grand class ships, the stabilizers are located about under the international

cafe, aft of the plaza deck cabins. If you are outside the ship -- on the

pier or in a tender, you can see the painted mark for the position.

 

They are on deck 2/3, which is above the engines.

 

They are not silent, as they move constantly when deployed.

That is how they operate.

 

They are never deployed in shallow water, narrow channels or

while docking.

 

I asked a bridge officer about hearing them in pax cabins.

He said you could hear them in crew cabins on decks 3+4,

but not on deck 5 and above.

I was upgraded from a cabin marked do not upgrade...so wondering if that really makes a difference? It turned out fine, as the upgrade was from an inside, right next to our family members cabins to a nearby balcony, but had that balcony been at the other end of the ship or on another deck, we probably not have been as happy. It was at the last minute as neither me or my TA received any notifications.

 

As said, I'm not sure marking it do not upgrade has much impact!
