Large angry crowds on the Breeze

The sense of entitlement so many people have never ceases to amaze me.

I just arrived back home to Atlanta from this cruise. As for the first medical emergency, it was closer to go straight to Cozumel because it was closer, arriving about 2:00 pm. We stayed at Cozumel until 11:00 pm. This mixed up our scheduled itinerary. People ( like me who had private excursions booked ) were peeved about the change but, what can you do? But, after the second emergency, arriving about 1:00 am to Grand Cayman then going back out to sea (i assume to keep the ship casinos running.) When they announced that we were going to miss Grand Cayman, bedlam ensued at the guest services desk. I had fttf, and was able to get to guest services almost immediately.The lady at the counter, Olga, allowed me to come behind the counter and use the office computer so i could reach my privately booked excursion. On the day we arrived to Cozumel early she also let me use their office computer and, even gave me a free internet package so that i could reach my cab driver ( Cresencio at Black Hat Cozumel ) All in all, not the greatest cruise ever, but i made the best of it, and still had a great time. Also, its good to know that if something happened to me, Carnival would drive the ship out of its way just to try to help me.

On the Swine Flu cruise on the Splendor the Captain disembarked over 600 people who wanted to create problems. It is his right and people need to remember this. He can also have people "Black Listed" from Carnival and they have done it.

 

Is there any evidence of this or is it something you were told? Is there a thread about this?

 

While I don't doubt it could happen, I was all over cc during the swine thing and don't recall hearing this.

 

If I am mistaken ok but I would love to read about this and the details of the kicking off of 600 pax. Where were they kicked off? I though all ports were cancelled? I know I will be corrected if I am mistaken but I really do want a refresher course on this particular cruise. Thanks

 

I only ask because I was on the much extended dcl magic hurricaine Frances cruise which was extended from 7 to 11 days. New ports added. Also we never returned back to port canaveral and eventually disembarked 4 days late in Fort Lauderdale

 

Many angry pax I can attest to but......

 

The 600 (yep same number you quote) that disembarked in Galveston which was unscheduled stop, did so because they asked dcl to arrange this and dcl was able to accommodate them

 

I assure you they were not kicked off but rather they were accommodated by dcl

 

So I really would like a link to the story that 600 on the splendor were kicked off by the captain and where they were kicked off.

Certainly seems they did what they could to help you, with internet access and all.

 

I can understand the disappointment, I missed the port that I most wanted to get to out of all the ports I've ever visited, but that's part of cruising.

 

What I can't understand is the total carry on by some people, demandind refunds and compensation.

Just off the Breeze as well. We were originally to be in Grand Cayman on Tuesday, but diverted to Cozumel Monday afternoon, supposed to be there on Thursday. I felt so bad for the guest services desk! Also the shore excursion desk took a lot of heat as well. I went up and bought a bag of candy from a cherry on top for guest services, they deserved some sweetness in a sea of sour!! It was insane. We still had a good time on the ship, but definitely not the trip we anticipated!

Oh. I thought they were disturbing the peace by profligate behavior, unrestrained revelry, noise and public disorder. Sounds like a riot to Webster and I. Riots don't need violence to be considered a riot. Would mutiny have been a better description for you? The point of the video was a response to andy.capitan's post about ringleaders being disembarked. I said I hope that guy was disembarked as the ringleader and provided a video of an experience that could have been similar to the one in the original post over similar missed port of calls. Another poster above, Domino, found the video to be very useful.

I think if they had NOT come through with a big compensation for people on the Magic last week, there would have been mutiny. But that was ebola, for cripes sake. Missing a port because of weather or medical emergency?? I hope they do throw the ringleaders off the ship.

Both medical emergency announcements were made on board. The boat was diverted to cozumel while they were in route to grand cayman because of a passenger medical emergency. Then after leaving cozumel, a crew member had a medical issue and the boat sped to grand cayman and arrived at 1am. In the morning an announcement was made that the boat would not be staying at grand cayman and they would have an additional sea day

 

 

Grand Cayman is one of my favorite ports for 2 reasons, I like tendered ports and I get round trip bus fare to Cemetery beach for $5...

 

What's at Cemetary Beach? I'd like to know about a good snorkel beach close to a reef. I have been disappointed there on boat snorkels. 30 years ago I did my first snorkeling there which was awesome so my expectations were high.

I don't believe that is correct. Many were given the option to disembark in San Francisco, being the cruise turned into a CTN, and many did not wish to continue cruising. They were not "put off". And those people were put on some famous "removed tips" email that lit the internet on fire.

Stuff happens in life. I am glad cjnix29 and sid_9169 made the best of it. Seems like GS was great in allowing sid_9169 internet use to contact private excursions. Unfortunately, as stated many times, Grand Cayman is often missed due to conditions sometimes not seen by the naked eye. Tendering there is a hit/miss situation. (we have missed GC 3x so far, but usually use it as a "ship" day anyway!) People who miss a much-anticipated port will fret, but nothing is guarenteed in life. (except death, sooner or later!!:p) I think the major problem may have been people who had private excursions set up, may not have been able to contact the vendors, and who may have lost money due to the missing of GC.

Well anyway, the captain did not force 600 pax off the ship.

 

Neither did dcl with our pax in Galveston

 

As I knew all along the captain gave the option to disembark to the unhappy pax who wanted off or in our dcl cruise needed to get off for various reasons as our cruise was extended by 4 days.

The reef is close to the beach, if you go take some yogurt to attract fish, works real good even if you are just a few feet from the beach. Caveat, last time I was there the yogurt didn't work...

Low class, ill mannered people ruin things for the rest of us simply trying to enjoy our time at sea.

 

Carnival should have taken all the disruptive guests into a room, gotten all their info for a "special incentive," refunded them 15% of their cruise, put them on a DO NOT CRUISE list and never allowed them on one of their ships again.

 

Problem solved.

Why would they comp part of the cruise fare for someone they aren't contractually required to do so if they're being banned from the cruise operator? Compensation in this industry is offered as goodwill in hopes the guest returns.

We was on the Conquest 2 weeks ago and the Captain chose to change our itinerary to avoid a hurricane. People where making a fuss about it. But I'm the kind that would rather enjoy my ports and time on the ship and not be put at risk.

Got home last night from the Breeze. It was a great cruise! Sure I missed swimming with the sting rays on my private tour, but these things happen. Since this was the SECOND time for aborting this itinerary I am not going to attempt a cruise vacation to Cozumel nor Grand Cayman but will have to do it by land/air.

 

So glad that I decided to go back to bed after waiting to get tender tickets. I wasn't even aware there was an "angry mob" at the purser's desk about not tendering. I don't understand why people don't read the cruise contract, its stated in black and white.

Was on the ship. When it was announced that we could not get off the ship any where in Mexico people hit the roof. We sailed to Cabo and floated around for something like 2 or 3 hours to meet the Jones Act.

 

In the Atrium people gathered and started screaming and yelling. Finally the Captain said anyone wishing to not further their cruise will be Disembarked back in Long Beach as we sail on to San Fransisco. There were 4 people that were removed at the Captains request. People went down to Guest Services and signed that they were leaving mid cruise. They had to carry off their own luggage and were not given anything for a shorter cruise. There were over 600 that disembarked.

 

Okay kicked off is not the right use of what happened but the Captain and the rest of us were pretty darn sick of all these people making a fool of themselves and messing up our cruise. They would congregate in open areas and become very disruptive.

 

When we got back to Long Beach we stood on the top deck and clapped as they got off. We were docked about 2 hours. As soon as they got off the ship we received open bars, OBC and got a letter stating we would receive 50% off next cruise.

 

When we returned there was video all over u tube that people had taken.

Sure makes retreating to the solidarity of your own balcony that much more pleasureable.

 

Of course there are those times when even your balcony can feel like Grand Central Station! But for the most part, I love getting away from it all on the balcony and not having to deal with people whose antics could kill the cruise experience.
