Overthinking "fashion guidelines" on a cruise?

Help me out here. I have only cruised in June and late September.

Both times I would not be wearing winter clothing at home, so it hasn't been an issue.

We are cruising in a few short days.

If I wear black booties that are suede with jeans or a skirt for a night of dancing (no jeans in the MDR, I know) is that odd since we will be on a Caribbean cruise in December?

I wouldn't wear suede in the spring or summer... Yet, in the caribbean people wear flip flops year round right?

Do the "fashion guidelines" get trumped by seasonal weather?

Yes. Because you will find people saying to wear white and linen etc all year round in the Caribbean. Dress for the weather.

Those same people will also say you can wear velvet on a December cruise in the Caribbean if you want, because it's festive.

Personally, I dress for the weather, not the dates. I'll find something "festive" as needed, but in the Caribbean, it will NOT be velvet. Or suede booties. But if you would wear suede booties in your own town when it's hot out (and some do) then why not? I would be too warm, and I would want a lighter shoe. Personal preference.

I think it would be exceedingly odd to mix a black suede boot with a white linen, though, so do think about your overall wardrobe and whether or not the items go with each other, as well as how each individual piece will fit your needs.

(and I don't travel anywhere with jeans, either. Not northern Europe in the winter, not the Caribbean any time of the year....I don't find denim travels well and prefer a black pant for flexibility to be dressed up or down anyway....)

It is what you are comfortable. I love shoes and tended to only wear 3-4 inch heels. However over the last year because of degeneration in my hips I can't wear heels so I have taken to wearing my cowboy boots winter spring summer or fall. Word them with my wedding dress in October and with my little black dresses and in the summer with my dresses. With white or real summery fabrics I do have open toe shoes with low chunky heels to wear. But yes I wear my boots year round

I wouldn't wear suede boots on a Caribbean cruise, winter or summer. I put suede boots in a cold weather class with suede or leather jackets, or heavy cable knit sweaters. The only way I can think that you might do this is if you are leaving from a cold climate and need the warmth on the airplane travel to and from the cruise. Once on the ship I would pack away those suede boots.

Do you have a more summery shoe you can use just for the cruise? Even sparkly flip flops would do at night.

Thank you. I knew you guys would advise!

And yes, of course I have more sparkly flip flops. I just don't wear them with jeans much except in summer.

I was thinking of jeans and a tunic type top and booties/shooties that look like this for when I want to get some height b/c my hubs is way taller than me:

I also wear these with some dresses and was trying to avoid packing extra stuff.

We leave on Friday. I need to make a trip to the mall...

Hi,:)...everyone has their own tastes......these are not something

I would bring on a cruise but that is just me. If you are comfortable

in them, go for it.

They are much too clunky (for me) and not something I am comfortable

wearing and will take up a lot space too.

As for the time of year, even when I go on Alaskan cruises, I don't

bring boots.....then again, I don't own any;)

Hope you have a wonderful cruise:)

Which ships are doing casual nights? Is this NCL? That might be a fun getaway cruise with the kids.

Good morning:)......which ships? All the mass market lines have casual

nights.

Klass2,

Love the boots and I'd totally feel comfortable wearing those if I were on your cruise. I think it isn't necessarily a cold weather item. I lived in FL for half of my life and I wore suede there in the fall and winter months.

I say go for it and have a great time. Just be careful walking around the ship with them because it can be dangerous if you're in choppy seas. Otherwise, wear them and enjoy!
