Crown Princess still battling Norovirus

I said "I think," geez, take a deep breath. I think we can agree that the entire process was a disgrace. I can't wait until our Jan 30 cruise where we embark at 93 and disembark at 46.

Did you miss your flight?

Oh no doubt, it was. Just a bit frustrated at how princess handled the whole thing and how they have refused to respond to emails on the subject. I didn't mean to snap at you... if you were lucky enough to get off when you were supposed to then there's yet another issue because we were in the crown grill with a whole lot of other people who had flights to catch and none of us were allowed to leave.

I'm also still not surprised noro is there, I'm betting the dust on the bathroom shelves and coffee stains are still in E209  too.

Fortunately, I made my flight because security is efficient at LAX. If there had been a line I would not have. They did find the five day old bottle of water that I had taken with me on our excursion in Puerto Vallerta and had forgotten to take out when I got back to my cabin.

Default Got off the Crown Princess on January 9th-picked up Noro.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got the noro-virus. I did not know how bad it was until it hit me hard.

I was cautious on the cruise and used hand saniter, did not touch the railing etc.

I was doing the back to back cruise 3 day LA-Ensenda-LA. The day of disembarkation. I left for the airport and checkin for my flight. The onset was fast. It hit me like a ton of bricks.. Nausea, wanting to vomit, whole body wracked with pain and diarrhea. I have never felt so sick, it was awful. I can not describe the feeling..

I ask the flight attendant for gravol and was stuck using the toilet on the plane a lot.

The Crown Princess is plagued with the infection..I am at home recovering slowly.. And I am still feeling the effects of this illness.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I would be afraid too! Crown princess has been plagued with Norovirus a few times.. If you get sick on the ship, they will quarantine you with yellow tape. That means you will not be allowed out of your room.

Make sure you use disinfectant spray in your room. Get a plastic bag to put your remote control.. It is full of germs.. When people come out of the bathroom the first thing the reach for is the remote. Wipe down your phone and handles in your room. Do not forget your room steward are in and out of rooms cleaning with out gloves on. Their hands can be contaminated.. from any other cabins.. This is another way to cross contaminate and get other people sick will this illness. Using the public washroom when you are in a hurry and can not make back to your room or playing in the casinos..

Hope you're feeling better. And thanks for the advice.

All the symptoms you guys are describing I had over Christmas and New Years.

It hit me out of the blue Christmas Day evening and I didn't surface again until the 2nd of Jan.

I wasn't on a cruise prior to this.

I was fine all week and started to feel funny around 4pm on the 25th.

I'm going on the Crown in Feb and not worried at all.

Not possible...flu is a RESPIRATORY illness.

Actually, the strain of flu actuve now is respiratory (which is what is killing so many people) but there is also gastro/intestinal involvement, aches and pains and fever. This is absolutely a gift I don't want.

Noro is actually more common on land than on a cruise ship. For some reason people just refuse to label it.

Ahhh, drat! Sorry to hear you came down ill - hope you recover quickly.

Hope you didn't catch it in the casino as I practically lived in there for most of the cruise. So far, though, all is well here.

Best,

Grey

Thx.. still have have nausea and stomach cramps.. The worse is the entire body aching.. Can not shake the chills..I am putting all of my booked cruises on hold.

I was really careful but still picked it up. I back tracked where I might of picked up the infection.. The public washroom and playing at the casino. If you are those places.. I suggest were medical gloves..

I was really scared that I would not make home and may of ended up in a hospital.:mad:

Oh no, that sounds awful....just cannot imagine how horrible that must be. I sure hope you are able to get over it and still go on your upcoming cruises.

I, too, am so careful when out of the house but sometimes, you have to eat food that others have prepared, you have to grab the sides of your chair to skooch up to the table, you have to use the same menus in the dining room and the same tongs in the buffet that others have used and you have to use the same buttons that everyone else uses in the elevator, casino, etc.

My pet peeve is in the restaurant when they seat you with others is when you have just gotten all washed up, purell applied your table mate wants to shake your hand. I hold back and simply say, 'nice to meet you, but I just washed my hands'.

I didn't really think about this at the time but the Captain did not attend the Platinum Elite Captains Club party on our December cruise on the Crown. While I never heard anything about noro while on our cruise, he may have been taking his own precautions. He'd know when to be extra careful before we would. hmmmm??

Well, I hope each day brings increased health back to you and others that contracted this awful bug.

Sorry to learn that you got norovirus & had to deal with it your flight. :(

We boarded on the 6th & also disembarked on the 9th and thankfully didn't get sick. We didn't sanitize our cabin liked you & others did and also frequently washed out hands. We minimized using the public toilets & only ate at the buffet on the last evening. The other nights we ate at Sabatini's & Crown Grill with lunches in the MDR & room service pizza. There's no way to know why you suffered with norovirus & we did not...maybe it was from the casino or from the buffet. Hopefully you'll feel better soon & that I'll never get norovirus when traveling away from home.

As others have posted there are more cases on land than on ships but not as "newsworthy" to the press.

Message from CDC to me regarding Norvirus on the Crown Princess.

======

Thank you for you question. The Crown Princess experienced two outbreaks in 2014 (April and November). For each outbreak we sent VSP Inspectors to investigate the cause of the outbreak as well as oversee the cleaning and sanitizing procedures. Since the outbreaks were not on back-to-back voyages and several months apart we do not consider them to be related or treat it as an ongoing outbreak. In addition to the investigation performed onboard the Crown Princess for both outbreaks the Crown Princess is subjected to two unannounced sanitation inspections per fiscal year.

For more information on our program and to view verbatim inspection reports please visit our website http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/default.htm. You can also find more information outbreaks, including those aboard the Crown Princess.

Regards,

I'm surprised they did not include the incidents of Noro from Feb 2014. We were on B2B 49 day South America repositioning cruise beginning Feb 2014. Here are two of the letters that were given to passengers throughout that 49 day cruise..... one from Feb 25, 2014 and one from April 3, 2014. I do know that the CDC became involved in April (when we saw it in the media as the Crown began her Coastal Calif run).

Poor Crown Princess - Nice ship! I love the layout. I sure hope that the scheduled Spring dry dock will get her cleaned out and Noro free :)

Oh, Here is something I've not seen yet as a precaution...

- try to get your own drinks in the buffet. We noticed that the wait staff who brought us drinks often touched the top of the cup/glass when bringing us a drink; these were the same wait staff that cleared tables from those who finished their meals.

One other thing that often happens in restaurants that refill drinks from pitchers; the server will touch the lip of the pitcher with the rim of your glass, and everyone else's . I noticed this happening in the HC on the Golden. I try to use straws when dining out if possible.

I don't think the CDC is informed unless there is a US port involved. Not fully sure where the US port has to be. I ran into a couple once that had been on a South American Cruise and had a huge Noro problem. She said it wasn't reported to CDC because there was no US port involved.

Yup! So always know that just because the CDC doesn't tell those inquiring through email about ongoing issues prior to USA (etc) ports of call, doesn't mean it didn't happen :D

Well since the wait staff is trained to ignore parties of one, that was never a problem for me when I dined without my friends. I always got my drinks and watched over my shoulder to make sure the waiters did not decide to take that opportunity to clear off the table.

We we on Crown a couple of years ago (2012) and it was full of the virus. They cleaned the ship during the cruise and after we got back. The next cruise never made it to its first port of call because of the virus. The ship turned around and came back to Port Everglades with out reaching one port of call to be cleaned again.

The "Noro Princess" is going to be a tough tag for the Crown Princess to shake.

Sometimes a cigar is just a smoke;). The Captain attended the party on the 12/30 cruise, which had enough Noro to warrant a deep clean after we disembarked.
