Are you curious about Cunard?

For some reason I decided to take a peak at the Cunard forum to see what they talk about. There is a thread over there called "Queen Elizabeth Photo Review" by Megacruiser that is absolutely amazing. There are fantastic photos taken all over the ship, copies of the daily newsletter, menus galore, and even food pictures. Very interesting and worth a peak, even if you're a RCCL loyalist. (Also interesting for people who hang out on the RCCL board - pay attention to the QE dress code.)

Yes! And I have been following that review also! I do think we will end up on Cunard but not for quite a few years yet. DH is very active and enjoys thing alike the flow rider and mini golf. Also, the casinos look a little under done which is where we end up after dinner every night.

In 20 years I think we will be on Cunard :) perhaps Celebrity will be a half way point as we go.

We have 3 sets of friends , D+ with RCI , who have started to cruise more with Cunard.

There have been some bargain trips out of the UK . As one of them said to me in their Christmas card "it is my style of cruising" and seeing as we are very similar in tastes I will try them sooner rather than later.

Will check out the thread:)

You, like many others, first have an interest, then take the plunge and realise what they have been missing. There will be no going back.

You will find Cunard is seriously lacking the one thing that is in abundance on RCI - pretentiousness.

We took a Trans-Atlantic once on Cunard and enjoyed it for that purpose.

Had a fine three weeks in Europe.

But our preference is to cruise the Caribbean (for the warmth) and for that we like the less expensive cruises with a wide variety of itineraries.

Oh there are people who cruise on Royal who already feel as if they're on Cunard. Just mention jeans in the MDR and they come out of the wood work.....

Cunard looks really nice but I prefer the more casual atmosphere that Royal offers.

Jeans in MDR:eek:

Paper, blue, touch, light:eek:

Funnily enough my DH and I are sailing Cunard on Tuesday. We have always sailed RCCL (D+) or Celebrity but saw a 4 night cruise from Southampton to Hamburg. The price was very attractive and we got a drinks package. We decided it was a good opportunity to try another line. I have been packing this afternoon and you would think I was a first time cruiser, how formal is formal etc! However I am looking forward to it and seeing what is different.

Agree, there are too many who walk RCI ships acting in the deluded belief they are true RCI ROYALTY, and should be treated accordingly by all.

Thankfully, Cunard does not have this problem.

Indeed, Cunard does not have such an issue.

Been sailing Cunard since '92 at age 34. It's class, style and elegance. All at a price. If you need "fun" and flow riders, it is not the cruise line for you. If wearing a tux or suit every night bothers you, stick with RCI.

We have sailed Cunard and I found the food to just be ok. We will stick with Royal and MSC. Maybe this year we will try Celebrity. Cheers!!!

I have sailed on Cunard and the food is somewhat better than Royal. It is about on par with having the best Celebrity MDR meal every night on the cruise. The specialty restaurant, Todd English was better than any specialty restaurant on Royal or Celebrity. Celebrity is a better though value in my opinion. Dressing up every night for the evening gets tiresome. For those who want to try Cunard I recommend QM2 because it is an ocean liner, and is a different experience than cruise ships. Queen Elizabeth is just a gussied up cruise ship.

I guess my friend who sails Cunard exclusively met the one and only "anointed ones".:D They endured a number of dinners with them.

We are among the older cruisers but found Cunard much too formal.

Having said that, the food in the Queens Grille is by far the best at sea. The price puts this out of the reach of many.

Cannot recomend Cunard.

Obviously you do not like formality, but I do, and for those who can afford and do not mind putting on a suit and tie in the evenings I certainly recommend Cunard.

Hmmm... RCI has been around 44 years, Cunard, 175 years. They must have been doing some right.

Yes, they got bought out by Carnival Cruise Lines. Otherwise they would not be around. They have one Ocean Liner, and two cruise ships built on Carnival hulls. They are a bare remnant of their past glory. Formality on cruises is a limited niche.

Does Cunard let you wear bathrobes everywhere on their ships?

:D

Not nice. But cute.

My last 6 cruises have been RCI.

My very first cruise was on Cunard out of Puerto Rico. It was nice.

Not on bandwagon but RCI meets our needs.

Safe travels
