trident one Posted February 26, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2015 Not sure which cruise to choose. Koingsdam 21 day Norse Legends & Northern Isles 8/7/16 or Koingsdam 21 day Northern Isles & Viking Saga 8/14/16 First cruise cruises the Geirangerfjord & Hardangerfjord and second does Sognefjord only. Which is the fjord not to be missed of the three? Thank you for any help you can give me.
Rare Hlitner Posted February 26, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2015 IMHO Geiranger is not to be missed.
sppunk Posted February 26, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2015 You want to go to Geiranger. Here's my live thread from September and I post photos from a lot of the stops you'd be at: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2095784
luxurysailer Posted February 26, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 26, 2015 Don't miss Geiranger. I'd recommend taking the overland bus excursion from Hellesylt to Geiranger on which you'll see spectacular scenery. Then when you get back on the ship you'll see Geiranger Fjord in its entirety as you sail back out. This is very near the top of all cruising experiences that we've had. RuthC Posted February 26, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 26, 2015 All the fjords are an amazing experience, which can be very different heading in, then heading back out the same day. A change in the weather changes everything. Geiranger Fjord has The Seven Sisters which is quite a sight---so long as there is water flowing. The last time I went by, they were barely a trickle. I would decide based on what I want to do once I get to the port. All have their charms, but they are different. Flam has that railroad heading up into the mountains, and it's a lovely ride. On a sunny day, a small boat ride back down gives an entirely different perspective. Geiranger is a small town to walk around, and offers some pretty views if you get outside, up the mountain. There are two ports HAL stops at in Hardangerfjord, each a little different.
Traveling Dot Posted February 26, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 26, 2015 Geirangerfjord is not to be missed. We just did it last summer and it was wonderful. I took a cruise down the fjord on a smaller ship and it gives you a much different perspective to going back on the bigger ship.:)
Rare MMDown Under Posted February 26, 2015 #7 Share Posted February 26, 2015 I would definitely recommend - Geirangerfjord & Hardangerfjord Sognefjord is not as spectacular.
sammygoose Posted February 27, 2015 #8 Share Posted February 27, 2015 If the Sognefjord is the least amazing then you are in for a treat. Here is a pic of the Eurodam in Skjolden Sognefjord in 2013.

Rare MMDown Under Posted February 27, 2015 #13 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Sognefjord is beautiful, as your photos show. Just not as spectacular as the other fjords. We spent a delightful day there and walked up the same steep hills, past the old farmhouses, for the view, which you photographed.

trident one Posted March 1, 2015 Author #15 Share Posted March 1, 2015 Everyone Thank you so much for your quick replies and great advice. Unfortunately, at this time we had to cancel the Koingsdam cruise to Norway, Iceland and British Iles. Dh just doesn't think he will be strong enough next year to do this. He is doing his best right now to keep his stamina at the level it is now and trying to work on improving it for our 14 day Canada/New England cruise this year in July. 2016 is away off and maybe things will improve. Norway is my wish and Iceland is his, mainly to relax in the Blue Lagoon. sammygoose, sppunk and hallasm I have saved your wonderful photographs and video as my wish to see Norway may have to be through your eyes. bobbisailsolo Posted March 2, 2015 #16 Share Posted March 2, 2015 IMHO Geiranger is not to be missed. Following this thread I'm thinking I need to change my cruise. I see it doesn't visit Geiranger. Looks like the Prinsendam has the best itinerary for Norway.
