ShipsDoc46 Posted March 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2015 From the various threads I see that the Eclipse is going for a refit in April. Not surprisingly the work appears to be to increase the $ spend opportunities . Does anyone know if there will be a general refurbishment of the staterooms and public areas ? recarpeting decorating etc. We are sailing on her again later in the year and are looking forward to a revampted ship...... or not. AtlantaCruiser72 Posted March 16, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2015 The two major changes scheduled for Eclipse are converting Cellar Masters to the GastroPub (an existing pay venue becoming a different pay venue) and creating Luminae (suites restaurant) from the lower starboard side of the MDR. Other than that they will replace pool decking, carpets, upholstery, draperies, repair furnishings, etc as needed. There should be little to no change to the colors/patterns/fabrics as they are all custom designed & milled for the cruiseline in the first place. Aside from the interior cosmetic work the hull will be scraped, inspected and repainted, the Azipod / bow thruster/ stabilizer units will get a thorough cleaning / tune up, and the exterior of the ship will be painted/touched up. Also any faulty mechanical equipment of any type should be repaired/replaced. To my knowledge no major structural changes are being made, nor are any cabins being added. AtlantaCruiser72 Posted March 16, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 16, 2015 I'd like to see the space opened up a little more to the foyer, add a tapas and charcuterie menu (have a few free items and a few for fee items) and feature a flamenco/classical guitarist/vocalist in the evenings. Cellar Masters has never been busy on my last few Celebrity cruises, so something needs to be done to enhance revenue/usage. Also is there any word on a new home for Perry Grant? I feel like a remodel of Celebrity Central into more of a cabaret type club could work, or get rid of the disco and redo it into a cabaret club. ShipsDoc46 Posted March 16, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted March 16, 2015 Many thanks for your input.Looks like its going to be a new ship again once we get on board in September. I agree that there are many spaces which are just a waste like Cellar masters which are hardly ever used IMO with the exception of Perry Grant ,who is not to our taste is very popular and many would miss him. All complain about Celebrity trying to squeeze every last cent out of your wallet while on board and just opening up more pay as you use venues just makes them look more cynical. keithm Posted March 16, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 16, 2015 I had not heard that, very interesting...... So will it remain Cellar Masters? Some staff told us In Jan. that it would be converted to Gastropub. I guess they were wrong. Seems it failed to generate excitement on the Equinox. I guess they avoid spending $$ if it won't generate revenue.
wendychloecruiser Posted March 16, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 16, 2015 Perry Grant has a home, on land. For the life of me I cannot figure the attraction but to each their own.

lucyliz Posted March 16, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 16, 2015 The Celebrity website lists the changes as being the addition of Gastrobar, Slush, a photography studio and an updated casino. http://www.celebritycruises.co.uk/cruise-ships/celebrity-eclipse/all-new-celebrity-eclipse.aspx I know lots of people on here have said the bar changes aren't happening, but I don't think Celebrity has commented yet. Until they do, and/or change the website, I'm still hopeful (though not at all expectant) that the Gastrobar will be there for our Eclipse cruise in May. I wonder if they will use the dry dock time to do the replacement for the Molecular bar. I hope not, as I was looking forward to it, but they've said the Molecular bars will all be replaced in the next 90 days so the dry dock seems a good time to do it. Rare steamboats Posted March 17, 2015 #15 Share Posted March 17, 2015 It´s also been said in the other thread that Luminae will be installed prior to the dry dock to get it ready for the suite guests for April. steamboats
thundermustard Posted March 25, 2015 #16 Share Posted March 25, 2015 If you go to Celebrity's website for the Eclipse it has a drop down menu for deck plans from April 2015-2017. It shows both Gastropub and Cellar Masters. It kind of shows Cellar Masters in the passageway, maybe it is a joint venture in the same space. It looks like the Molecular Bar is listed in bars but where it is on the ship there is an unnamed bar depicted. I'm gonna be really bumming if that Molecular Bar is not on the Eclipse next year when we go.
cruisead Posted March 25, 2015 #17 Share Posted March 25, 2015 (edited) We were on the 10 day Equinox and from the looks of it, the Gastropub was more busy than Cellar Masters, but not by much. Rarely did we see people eating there, just sitting at the bar drinking. I'm thinking that if they had a different menu, included some free-of-charge items with a beverage purchase, they would have more business. The biggest complaint from the men there was the fact that the TV only showed "Euro-Centric" sports and nothing from North America. People wanted to see hockey (lots of Canadians on our cruise) or USA basketball, but all they would show was Futbol and rugby. Perhaps if they changed things up a bit and showed different sports on the TV's, then the Gastropub would have more business. ON the Equinox in the Med last year, European sports on the TV in the Gastropub were very popular - it was bursting for some key football (soccer) games. mackem1999 Posted March 26, 2015 #21 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Just got back from the Caribbean cruise that left on 1st March. We spoke to the Entertainments Director and she told us that Cellar Masters would remain as Celebrity had won many awards for it's wine selection and they did not want to change a winning aspect of the cruise. upwarduk Posted March 26, 2015 #22 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Was that Sue Denning- I would think she would have up to date information. I wonder whether she will have a short holiday during Dry Dock or whether she will be on for the TA after.
Gordoncruickshank Posted March 26, 2015 #23 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Just got back from the Caribbean cruise that left on 1st March. We spoke to the Entertainments Director and she told us that Cellar Masters would remain as Celebrity had won many awards for it's wine selection and they did not want to change a winning aspect of the cruise. The hotel director said likewise on the same cruise. Most of what is getting done is regular maintenance but the suite dinning area will be built plus the few other areas announced but not the Gastropub. They will need to find a solution to the wine machines that apparently don't work. Gordon
iandjm Posted March 26, 2015 #24 Share Posted March 26, 2015 I'm surprised they have not modified cellar masters into an upmarket pub style venue. Works incredibly well on Cunard

I can also confirm this plan- Sue denning had a conversation with us and she relayed the information about cellar masters. The wine machines are apparently being removed The eclipse apparently had great recognition for its wine etc and therefore the decision was made to keep cellar masters !
