asalligo Posted March 17, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2015 LOL, no problems with kids escaping anymore, but I like to bring a doorstop when I travel anyway. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Master-Big-Foot-No-slip-Doorstop-Non-skid-Base-Prevent-Scratches-Rubber-1.3-X-2-X-4.5-Brown-MAS00920/40253585
tea4ular Posted March 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 17, 2015 WOW! My best friend can hardly open the cabin door due to its weight. I suggest putting a chair or something in front of it, and maybe securing the chair to the doorknob with a bungee or something. Better not get a balcony cabin, and I am not fooling! maritaysa Posted March 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 17, 2015 We put the brakes on the umbrella stroller, and put it sideways in front of the door.

fuddrules Posted March 17, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 17, 2015 How does the "door stop" prevent a closed door from being opened? Just the opposite of when it's open.

jwalk03 Posted March 17, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Parents to toddlers equals saying see you later to balconies for awhile says the Mom of a soon-to-be 4 yr old and soon-to-be 1 yr old. We had a balcony on our last Disney Cruise with our 2 year old daughter. The balcony doors have a safety latch at the top far out of reach for a child. I have never had a balcony on a Carnival ship, do that not have any similar saftey latch or lock on them?
momonthego17 Posted March 17, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) Usually the cabin door is down a hallway, so maybe bring a babygate across the hallway to block off access to the door. I've never tried that, my DDs are 12 & 14. Good luck! Edited March 17, 2015 by momonthego17
cb at sea Posted March 17, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 17, 2015 I 2nd wedging a door stop under the closed door...it will give you time to get there and pull them back!!! And yes... Carnival's balconies will have a child lock!
splintz Posted March 17, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 17, 2015 i always take the little table that comes in the state room and move it in front of the door at night. that has always kept my kids in. they are now 9 and 6 years old but have been cruising since they were 5 and 2 years old. eweiss1979 Posted March 17, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Don't over think it. Just lay your luggage bags down in front of the door inside your cabin. Then move then into the closet when you want to leave.
RuthlessBoss Posted March 17, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Go to Home Depot, get a portable motion detector. I've even seen them on e bay. They go on doors, door knobs or windows.
forwardcabin Posted March 17, 2015 #15 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Cabin Steward can give you a door stop--they are the large industrial rubber-style door stops.
eweiss1979 Posted March 17, 2015 #16 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Go to Home Depot, get a portable motion detector. I've even seen them on e bay. They go on doors, door knobs or windows. How does the motion detector actually prevent the child from leaving and opening the door? I'm sure in a small cruise cabin this isn't needed as you will be able to notice the child opening the door before they leave the room. What the OP really needs is a door opening deterrent. Laying the luggage down in front of the door should deter the 2 year old from trying to open the door. Now crawling under the bed is another issue altogether. Homosassa Posted March 17, 2015 #18 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Just wanted to say thanks for the memories and chuckle. My daughter did that with the front door to our house. Luckily, I heard the screen door slam and managed to catch her (naked) on the sidewalk two house down from ours. We installed a night chain on the screen door to prevent more escapes. slim501 Posted March 17, 2015 #19 Share Posted March 17, 2015 My 3 year old can escape as well. We open all the closet doors and the bathroom door so that slows him down. He hasn't made it out since we did that.

On our last cruise, we couldn't get the safety latch to work most of the time while at sea. In port it worked fine.
