Rare Manbo Posted April 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2015 We are leaving on the Pearl in a few days to sail the inner passage to Alaska. Since it will likely be too cold to be outside, what do you recommend to do on the three day at sea. Thanks!
Ontario cruise duo Posted April 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Soak in the outdoor hot tubs and watch the beautiful scenery go by... That's what we did last year. Or you can still be dressed in warmer clothing watching the scenery from the back of the ship (outdoor café). The breeze seemed somewhat sheltered back there. Maybe it won't be as cold as you are thinking.

Not meaning to sound snarky, but take layers, dress warm and stay outside and enjoy the views, that is what Alaska is all about.
bonvoyagie Posted April 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2015 First the itinerary listed on the NCL might be wrong as it shows you overnighting in IPS - That may be the case but on Wed you should be spending all day in Glacier Bay. I suggest that you pack some layered clothing and spend some time on deck - otherwise the best place for sightseeing is the Spinnaker Lounge at the front of the ship. For the most part, there will be land on both sides of the ship on 90% of the journey. The only actual sea time for you will be on the run between Ketchikan and Victoria - and that will be mainly at night. The CC meet and greet will probably be held on Fri. roger001 Posted April 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2015 They are not truly sea days. You are only a stones throw from land, both side, for most of the passage. It's all about the scenery. Look, look, and look.
cb at sea Posted April 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2015 True! The weather will be what it is...could be chilly...could be shorts weather! You never know! Get outside!
jcallcut Posted April 27, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2015 You will never have a better tasting cup of hot cocoa than you have sitting outside on the deck wrapped in a blanket watching some of the most beautiful scenery you can ever imagine going by in front of you. Don't move away from the cold and drizzle...embrace it...it will make for the adventure of a lifetime and will be something you will talk about for years. JohnCoMo Posted April 27, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 27, 2015 I was on the Pearl to Alaska last year and bought the one week spa pass. Hung out there every day when not in port. Sit in the sauna or on a heated tile lounge and watch the scenery. The spa was my favorite part of the cruise except glacier bay and the ports. littlelulu01 Posted April 27, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 27, 2015 If you're doing the inside passage on the way up the views are simply fantastic. I was amazed that a ship the size of the pearl could navigate so close to land on either side and all the little islands. We woke up very early and sat on our balcony for hours with blankets. The water was as smooth as glass too. Bring binoculars and watch wild life. spend time in the spa. The pearl's spa is wonderful. The views from the sauna are incredible. Rare mking8288 Posted April 27, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Binoculars & dress in layers, hats & mittens, scarfs if necessary so that you can stay outside to enjoy the passing scenic coastlines. Get an insulated mug - hot coca/chocolate and/or coffee does wonders. The following pictures were taken on outside deck cruising on sea days - inside passage (promenade on the Pearl should be deck 7, somewhat sheltered - that's where we're then on the Star) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/64025118/1980-2000%27s%20Travel/DSCP132E.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/64025118/1980-2000%27s%20Travel/DSCP137.JPG
quack2 Posted April 27, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) I understand there is a new fee for remaining on the ship during At Sea days. Edited April 27, 2015 by quack2
