Upgrades - When Sold Out?

That's exactly why we have booked this cabin (E702) a couple of times on both the Royal and Regal.

That's also why we chose an obstructed view aft balcony cabin (E-702) for our upcoming E. Caribbean cruise on the Royal.

We like this location for easy access to the Allegro (traditional) dinning room and upper decks via the aft elevators/stairs and avoiding the often crowded center elevators.

We're on a cruise in 4 months and booked a Guaranteed Balcony (BF). Today we received an upgrade notice that our cabin has been assigned, category BB.

Seems very early for a Guaranteed Balcony assignment. What does this mean?

It probably means that they feel they can sell the BF category better than the BB category, and want the inventory for that.

Enjoy your BB category balcony!

It just means they picked a BB balcony for you...sounds lucky to me. Do you like the location (relative to other BB's) of that cabin if so, just sit back and smile. If OTOH the location of your BB is not your favorite among all BB's, watch for more desirable BB's to come available. if one does, ask to swap

And then - or whenever - you are really happy, ask them to mark you NO UPGRADE so you don't get moved somewhere else you don't want.

I also imagine if for some reason you saw an available BC in a more desirable location for you, then Princess should have no problem moving you down one category, but you won't be able to move to an open BA for free.

Princess will not usually do such a move. They will do elsewhere in the category assigned or put you back into the original GTY status.

Thank you for giving a timeline. The timing of your offer sounds similar to that cited by San Diego Sue.

OP is sailing in 8 days and I sail in 15 days.

If your time line is typical, the first round(s) of Upsell offers for our cruises was likely completed weeks ago. Have people experienced Upsell offers in the final week or two before a cruise, or might Princess be more likely to be in free upgrade mode in the last couple weeks?

In April we got a moveover offer the Friday before we were to sail on Sunday. We were offered to move from Regal 7 day inside to Royal 10 day balcony (E702) and half our money back! We just had to wait 3 days later. Yes---we took it.

How wonderful that you got and could happily accept that offer.
