MITSUGIRLYS DAWN TO BERMUDA NOVEL (or review as some may call it)

In regard to your photo organizing and trip reports I can only say...GOOD...LORD. Bless you for doing it because the last thing I would want to do after all the bills and laundry and kids crap and the actual j-o-b to deal with after vacation is to do all the work you just described. I think I'm good with my measly hundred or so photos and faulty memory:p.

LOL, yep, it's a lot of work but I actually enjoy doing it. It's also a great way to "relive" our vacations/experiences and sorta like a "diary" of our vacation that I can look back on. Someone once suggested that I print them off (I can only imagine how many pages it would be lol) and put them in my scrapbooks at home so that Sakari could look back on them when she got older. :)

Wow! That is one impressive system of photo organization!

I don't come home with anywhere near as many photos as you do. I think I've maxed out at about 1000, which is a bit overwhelming for me. I think I'm going to need a whole lot more folders-and sub folders before I can even come close to being as organized as you are. I can only imagine how much time all that organization takes. Makes me appreciate your reviews even more than I already do! Thanks again for doing them.

I was so happy to see another review by you! Bermuda is definitely on my list of places to visit. I live 3 hours from the closest cruise port which is Charleston and they just added a couple cruises to Bermuda next year in May & November in their lineup. May is out since I already booked a 10 days cruise that month but thinking of November...just nervous that it may be too cool in Bermuda at that time of year. Also the ship will be Carnival Ecstacy which is an older ship but doesn't bother me much. Your review definitely got me looking more into Bermuda now for next year!:)

Dear Mitsugirly.... WOW, just WOW.

I had the good fortune to come across one of your earlier posts (in researching our upcoming cruise on the NCL Epic) and I was instantly hooked. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time out of your own life to document, detail, and then SHARE with all of us, the good, bad, glorious and (as the case with the yellow towels) the sometimes grimy..

I know others before me have said it, so please allow me to echo their sentiment, when I sincerely thank, admire, and appreciate you.

The marketer in me thinks some savvy T/A would do well to snatch you up and pay you a consultancy fee to blog for them - I cannot tell you how many sites I have scoured for info on planned trips, but none have been so in-depth and well documented as yours. Many often feel sterile and dare I say "forcibly positive' where yours seem to envelope the reader into your vacation ( i have never snorkeled and reading vicariously through you, now feel as though I have ventured into the seas and witnessed some of her secrets).

The former journalist in me would love to see C/C or some other venure do a profile on you, your most recommended cruise, excursion, dream vacation (if money and time were not a factor), least favorite place... etc. I love the fact that you travel with your husband and daughter (that is my travel pack as well) though we have mostly done land trips, ever since my 1st cruise a few years back I am yearning to earn my 'sea legs'. I am sure somewhere here there is a thread that reveals where and what captivated you into cruising, how you decide on a cruise, and how to manage the arrangements.

I noted from this amazing review that you and I also share an affinity for the details (i will even use Wrike to schedule tasks for my husband and daughter, so they get email alerts when they need to 'pick up dry cleaning')- if you ever decide to take a break from nursing, I think you could have a new career writing articles for travel mags..

Thanks again for continuing to educate, enlighten, and entertain.

Kim, I definitely think you should do this! I agree 100% with Trynity. Because of a middle ear problem, I can't snorkel and I just LOVE seeing your pictures! Also, we live in NE NJ and are about 20 minutes from NY Cruise Terminal/Manhattan and even tho Mother Nature sometimes throws us some crazy weather to keep us guessing, it is usually warm enough to wear short sleeves and shorts by Mother's Day. June is usually very warm.

Loved the review!!!! Thanks so much once again.

The sea glass beach was spectacular. I would love to go there...and go back on the ship without the jingling shorts as well. ;)

I'll give you a tip someone gave me a few years ago. I only do it on my waterproof camera and it seems to work. Apply rainex to a cloth and wipe it on the lens and then buff it off (follow the bottles directions basicially). Then when you go in and out of water you can pretty much shake off the water and rarely get spots. Now I have found I should reapply it every so often. Probably just once a year for as much as I use it, you might want to do it before each trip. It really does seem to help.

I love Chihuly! 2 years ago we visited the display at the Franklin Park Gardens in Columbus. (My sister lives down there and we did a weekend of American Girl Doll store and some other fun things).

Chihuly did some of the light fixtures for Disney, but now only 1 ship has the chandelier left. They have an exhibit in Seattle and I am hoping to find time to visit it before our Aug. cruise. I think it opens fairly early so I may try to go at opening before we get on the ship that day.

I loved your explanation on your folders, etc. I do something similar, but not quite as extensive. I do pay for Flickr for my photos. So worth it to me too.

I just made an action to stamp my photos. I made it so I can still drag them after I stamp it then another action to flatten the picture. It' working out well so far. I have stumbled across my pictures on other sites before and though it can be an honor I really don't want someone advertising something without my permission. Usually everyone I have contacted has been good about taking them down.

Thanks again for the review...and I still have a few of your older ones to read up on...but sadly work is calling to me today and I shouldn't even be on here right now! :p

Kim, we were on the Dawn the week after you. I agree with most of your pluses and minuses. We didn't see any leakages and buckets, but we did see at least one toilet that had over flowed and several out of order. Nasty.

I also agree with the smoking situation. Both sides, the Bimini and the terraces were full of smokers, as well as the casino (although the did have a couple of non-smoking tables).

The bar situation was darn right stupid. I try to seek out at least one "home bar" during a cruise as my main go to place for before/after dinner cocktails. There just wasn't any place that was great. The bartenders were all pretty sour or overworked. That was my biggest disappointment, not being able to saddle up to the bar and have great conversation with the bartender. Forget Topsiders or Bimini. It got better after the first sea day, but it wasn't great. I heard from a sever that the bartenders really hated the UDP, because they weren't getting any money at all. I always threw in a $1 cash with every drink and found that the service was better, but it still wasn't great.

Also they only showed the NBA championship games in Pearly Kings on 2 TVs WHILE Karaoke was going on too. I gave up on that and did something else.

We were on deck 12 right around the corner from you. Our steward was the best we have ever had. He took great care to use our names and speak to us every time he saw us. We had some great chats in the hallways.

The Casino was pretty good to me as well. Not as good as you, but still a fine time.

I typically book for destinations, not the ship itself, so like you these things really didn't bother me. The Dawn was fine for us, the Sun is our least favorite ship, but if we go back to Bermuda, it will be on the Breakaway. I have two teenaged girls and they have lots of problems finding things to do on the ship that didn't involved roaming around in packs with other teenagers. Our plans had changes suddenly and the Dawn fit our plans better, but I doubt we will sail her again any time soon.

Great review btw.

Lol, yea but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple and goes pretty fast. I'm usually setting up all the various folders and subfolders as my pictures are downloading onto the computer. I like to multitask. :D

Thanks for the comments and it should definitely be on your list! :) The place is amazing and so beautiful with so much to do there.

I didn't realize that they had any ships going to Bermuda in November? I would be afraid of it being too cold for me. But then again, I like all water "stuff". hehe

Dear Mitsugirly.... WOW, just WOW.

I had the good fortune to come across one of your earlier posts (in researching our upcoming cruise on the NCL Epic) and I was instantly hooked.

Oh gosh, please tell me it wasn't the Epic review itself. LOL That was my very first review and man was it small. Since cc only allows 6 pictures, I thought that was the "max" you could use...period. You know how hard it is to find only 6 pictures for an entire review of a ship to post? LOL I also didn't take pictures back then to the extent that I do now either. :p

I cannot thank you enough for taking the time out of your own life to document, detail, and then SHARE with all of us, the good, bad, glorious and (as the case with the yellow towels) the sometimes grimy..

Now wouldn't that be cool? I'm for hire you guys...I need to make more cruise money...Just saying.... :p

Aww, that's so sweet and a very high appraisal. Thank you so much. But, everyone is so different and variety makes the world go around. So it would be really hard to have anyone recommend anything as far as a cruise or place since everyone have taste that extend on each end of the spectrum.

What captivated me into cruising was me and my "ex" decided to take a cruise for our (I think) 3rd or 4th anniversary back then. Now think about it back then...cruising seem to be only for the "rich and famous" and it was NOT cheap at all. But we were determined to try it...and LOVED IT! However, it didn't stick with us since at that time we had 2 small children and just couldn't afford it. We tried it again about 10 years later and once again LOVED it and swore we would cruise for our yearly vacations instead of land vacations...then never did. :(

Only after marrying my husband now did I mention cruising again...and this is because a lady I worked with cruised all the time and she mentioned it to me....AND GET THIS....she is the one that told me about Cruise Critic and I went online, did a lot of reading for the next.....month or so and fell in love. At the time, the Epic was being built and I was the queen of "stalk" during that time and became very involved in the boards....the rest is history and now we DO cruise instead of land vacations. :p

How I decided really varies...sometimes the ship, sometimes the ports.

Planning...yep, I did cover that in my review and even gave pictures of how I organize it and do it. It's a lot of work, but I completely enjoy it. It's half the fun of cruising. :D

This weather is just crazy this year. It was almost 90 the other day and for the last 2 days, it's been in the low 60's. I feel like I should break out the pumpkins for fall today.

Thanks so much for the awesome review. Our family is sailing on the Breakaway in less than 2 weeks and your review was so helpful.

Sailing on the Jade in Feb ... KSF price was too good to pass up. You should check it out.

Thanks again.

I hope you have a wonderful time on the BA and glad the review was helpful.

I am definitely looking into a few dates for the Jade for November because the pricing is just crazy low. :)

Loved the review!!!! Thanks so much once again.

The sea glass beach was spectacular. I would love to go there...and go back on the ship without the jingling shorts as well.

:p HAHA, yea, it was pretty neat and "different" to say the least.

I'll give you a tip someone gave me a few years ago. I only do it on my waterproof camera and it seems to work. Apply rainex to a cloth and wipe it on the lens and then buff it off (follow the bottles directions basicially). Probably just once a year for as much as I use it, you might want to do it before each trip. It really does seem to help.

Just wondering, how long have you been doing this? I would just die if something happened to my cameras and I'm just wondering if it's possible to have any long term effects from doing this. It sounds like a great idea though. That's pretty cool. I have found that if I have a water spot on my camera, if I dip it back under the water real quick when I pull it out, it usually goes away (since I'm always taking pictures while snorkeling and I often come up to get a picture above the water as well). I usually do pretty good with checking the lens before I take a picture to make sure there's no water spots but since I was struggling with this whole battery thing it was always a quick turn on, snap, turn off. I always felt like I was racing against time...or at least against my battery. :p But I'm going to look into this!

Oh how neat! I did see something (not sure if it was an actual Chihuly or not) on one of the ships (NCL) before in the atrium. I want to say maybe the Pearl? I can't remember...ok, now I'm off to look that up because it has me wondering. LOL

Usually everyone I have contacted has been good about taking them down.

That's awesome. Glad it's working out for you. I really hated to do it, but seeing my pictures show up in various places and then someone posting it "implying" it was there's was my final straw. Yes, it's yet another step I have to do, but it is what it is I guess. I never mind if people used them, but I would expect them to at least give credit to me for doing them (or at least link to my review or just....something).

Thanks again for the review...and I still have a few of your older ones to read up on...but sadly work is calling to me today and I shouldn't even be on here right now! :p

Yea, I'm supposed to work today (only 1 patient needing IV therapy) but have been waiting for that "call" that hasn't came yet.

As always, thanks for the comments and I really am going to look up on doing that rain-x thing to the camera. I think I'll post it here in the photo forum section and see what some of the pro's think. :D

Great review btw.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that did actually notice some of the things. Like I said, I've had others in the past actually argue with me that they didn't exsist...even though I had pictures. LOL

It wasn't anything major and didn't spoil our cruise at all. I'm happy that I can add the Dawn to our "list of NCL ships sailed now"...and mark it OFF that list.

I think the bar tenders are just way over worked at this point with the UBP and I feel bad for them. We always find a place that we enjoy too and usually drink at that place (or at least hang out there...which is usually the casino or a place like Bimimi) and the bar tenders have always known exactly what we get and when they see us coming, they won't even have to ask. This will be the first time that this has never happened. I think so many people around the bar demanding their drinks did not give them an opportunity to get to know anyone and I'm sure we all just looked like a bunch of blank faces to them at that point.

Glad the casino was decent to you too.

Even without teens (for me), I still like to be entertained by the ship...meaning the ropes course, pools, slides and so on is always a nice added touch. Otherwise I end up spending too much time in the casino. :p

Hi all!

mitsugirly ~ congratulations on becoming platinum!:D I'll be taking my 1st cruise as platinum on my fav, the Epic for Christmas.

I sure hope you can do the Breakaway to Bermuda from NYC, it's quite the place to start from & the ship is nice too.

Did you never go to Pearly Kings Pub on Dawn? I went there frequently for popcorn, trivia & crafts (probably in that order;)).

My 1st time on Dawn I wasn't impressed especially with the seating in the theatre, artificial flowers in lobby area etc but last Nov. I liked it better, maybe it was because of the group I sailed with & my cute porthole cabin.

Thanks for posting the Chihuly pix.

I've enjoyed your cruise as always & look forward to your next one.

I followed your review from beginning to end and found it very informative, however I am bothered by the fact that you used the terms "moron" and "suckers" to describe other cruisers and staff.

I know you prefaced your review by saying you call it as you see it, but I am not sure you would like other reviewers calling your family those names. I think I may have been one of the "suckers" who got in the wrong line on your cruise, but I got to my destination and had a wonderful time.

While curse words may be in your vocabulary, are they really needed in a review, just saying :(

I have probably done it 3 or 4 times on my fuji in the last 4 years. Now I have other cameras too and that is not my main one, but so far I have never had an issue...knock on wood

Curse words? I don't consider them as such. If they were 'tho, and I found them offensive, I would have stopped reading this lengthy review.

Since you're a first time poster (LOL), I will give you some advice; it is not nice to criticize someone's review. This gal has spent hours, upon hours, providing an exceptional review. Nothing she has said, or how she has said it, warrants your "moronic" and rude comments.

Thanks. I feel like I should have become platinum a long time ago...but I strayed. LOL

We walked through the Pearly Kings Pub several times and it was always so packed...like beyond packed that we kept on walking. Every time I looked for popcorn, they never had any and I was so disappointed. Oh well.

I definitely believe that your cruise is what you make of it and the crowd you are with can definitely make it a better cruise.

Let me apologize. I'm very sorry for offending you or anyone else. That is not my intention. It was just meant as a "funny" during the story, although I guess not so funny, and I would never call someone a name. I was probably out of line and my sincere apologies for that. I'm not sure about the curse words. I'm confused at that statement...unless you are trying to imply that those 2 words are curse words? Either way, I'm sorry.

Thanks for the kind supporting words but I guess I might have been wrong or used the wrong terminology within my review and I don't mean to offend anyone. Regulars around here know that is not me and I would never intentionally mean to say anything negative towards someone or about something (I think I've taken quite a few negatives during cruising and made them positives) but anyone that is new and don't know my personality might get offended (which obviously someone did). I would never hope that anyone on here reading my reviews thought it was directed toward someone instead of just meant to be a funny thrown in for entertainment. My intentions around here to to gain knowledge and help others, not insult them.

I guess you win some you lose some. :(

Your apology means a lot...thank you. The curse words you used (da**it, cr*p, etc.) are offensive to some such as me, but I guess it may be more mainstream to others.

Thank you for your hard work in getting so much info to cruisers.

I have to agree with you 100%. As a first time poster...she will get eaten alive here if she makes any more posts like that. My theory is if you don't like the style or writing of someone's report, then you move on and don't comment. Everyone is different, everyone has different lifestyles, everyone has different writing styles and you can choose to read it or not.

I know how much work it involves to write a trip report and I appreciate ones like this so much.

Amazing review!! Thanks so much for your time and dedication. I know you still have a REAL LIFE outside of this forum, but you never faltered. I'll say this again: some of your scenic Bermuda shots are simply amazing and should really be shared with National Geographic or something. I'll be using a few of those scenes as wallpapers for sure!!

I've even picked up some new ideas on planning and organizing our future family cruises. Definitely looking into booking H2O for our September Bermuda trip.

QUESTION: Mom is just about 70, and doesn't like water sports at all. Can she stay behind, and wait in the office, or the shack, while hubby and I do the jet skiis at H2O?

I followed your review from beginning to end and found it very informative, however I am bothered by the fact that you used the terms "moron" and "suckers" to describe other cruisers and staff.

I know you prefaced your review by saying you call it as you see it, but I am not sure you would like other reviewers calling your family those names. I think I may have been one of the "suckers" who got in the wrong line on your cruise, but I got to my destination and had a wonderful time.

While curse words may be in your vocabulary, are they really needed in a review, just saying :(

My o my, shaking my head!! Cruising peeps stop being so literal and taking this so defensively. I know Kim and know she would never intentionally hurt anyone's feelings. No worries, that should be the motto!!! Just saying.........
