coconutmonkey Posted June 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Hello. I am new to Celebrity concierge cabins and was wondering if I can swap the welcome sparkling wine for a bottle of red wine. If yes, is this done through the room steward or through room service? Thanks.
mickey89 Posted June 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Don't waste your time, the wine is only valued at $15 and the alternative is undrinkable. We swapped for a bottle of White and poured in down the sink. Absolute rubbish...............
Rare chemmo Posted June 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Just speak to your room attendant.
CYNSport Posted June 29, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Sometimes it is difficult for the room attendant to get this accomplished (think of the logistics if everyone asked for this). Another option is take it to dinner and see what the sommelier can do for you. A smile and a pleasant demeanor are helpful.
Croooser Posted June 29, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) It used to be no problem but seems like it is getting more difficult based on our experience: - A few years ago in Blu the sommelier did exchange it but we waited until we had ordered and paid for wine from him for several nights - April 2014 the sommelier in MDR had to call the head sommelier and he somewhat reluctantly agreed to do so again after we had bought a bottle very other night on a 16 night TA - April 2015 our room attendant flat out refused as did guest services. After commenting on the mid cruise review (making sure not to rant but just to mention), the Hotel Director responded affirmatively. One gets the sense that someone at corporate decided that if they turn down your request, that you will purchase that bottle that you wanted to exchange for. Should they do it? Of course. Will they do it. Maybe. YMMV Edited June 29, 2015 by Croooser
Rare ghstudio Posted June 30, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 30, 2015 We have received a $28 credit towards another bottle of wine on our last 6 cruises...we ask the sommelier the first night if we can get a credit and the answer has always been yes. jsf Posted June 30, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2015 We traded it for 3 large bottles of water. It did take a couple of days, the cabin steward had to clear it with somebody. J.
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted June 30, 2015 #8 Share Posted June 30, 2015 We got a $16 credit on our account which we used toward the purchase of a decent bottle of red wine. I guess the "champagne" they provide should be called "the bottled beer of champagnes!" :D:D:D
hughdm Posted June 30, 2015 #9 Share Posted June 30, 2015 Get some OJ and make Mimosas. It's good enough for that!
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted June 30, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 30, 2015 (edited) Get some OJ and make Mimosas. It's good enough for that! Maybe -- especially with Celebrity's new "fresh-squeezed, just not here" juice, but it would ruin a Kir Royale. kathynorth Posted June 30, 2015 #11 Share Posted June 30, 2015 Hello. I am new to Celebrity concierge cabins and was wondering if I can swap the welcome sparkling wine for a bottle of red wine. If yes, is this done through the room steward or through room service? Thanks. We always ask the sommelier if we can exchange the bottle from our cabin. We have always been told yes. Then we bring the bottle to the restaurant the following night. On our last cruise we received a $32 credit toward the bottle of our choice. Beanb41 Posted June 30, 2015 #12 Share Posted June 30, 2015 Its free enjoy it. Ask your steward the day before to put the bottle on ice first thing in the morning. Get some cheese, crackers, or bread and salmon from the buffet and take your chilled bottle up onto the upper deck and chill for an hour or more. Glasses are available at any bar. We generally get plastic ones just for safety sake.

Drinking cheap sparking wine (in a plastic glass?) is not a perk most would enjoy. Including the OP.

coconutmonkey Posted June 30, 2015 Author #18 Share Posted June 30, 2015 Thanks all for your replies. Its good to know some of you have had success in exchanging it or getting a credit. Adding orange juice in the morning is also a good idea.
