gumbypee Posted July 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2015 Seattle to Seattle cruise. Birth certificate or passport? What if Vancouver is a port? Thanks
zqvol Posted July 18, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2015 Round trip Seattle may be done with just a BC, and government issued photo ID.
paul929207 Posted July 18, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2015 BC and government issued photo ID is sufficient.
Rare martincath Posted July 18, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2015 Vancouver's never a port on a Seattle RT (Victoria is almost always though), so just in case you were consideing e.g. NCL pseudo-RTs that leave Seattle and end in Vancouver or vice versa, passport would be required for that (or NEXUS or other WHTI compliant ID). sail7seas Posted July 19, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 19, 2015 We sailed round trip Seattle with a stop in Victoria and it was a wonderful trip. We have passports but did not need them for that cruise.

Putterdude Posted July 19, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 19, 2015 With a closed loop cruise to Alaska a passport is not required even with a stop in Victoria. However, there is a caveat, you can not take the WP&YR beyond the Summit, you may not drive or take a tour outside of Alaska into the Yukon or BC and if in the unlikely event you had to fly home thru a Canadian city....they say you can't....I'll just say it will be difficult. The passport thing is not a Canadian law it is a US law...we just don't want to have to keep you while the US decides they will let you back or not.:)
Flatbush Flyer Posted July 20, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 20, 2015 BC and government issued photo ID is sufficient. Not necessarily. Most premium and luxury cruise lines require that all passengers have a passport for all itineraries.
rockdoctor Posted July 20, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 20, 2015 Without a Passport you will not be able to take excursions to Canada in Skagway.
Putterdude Posted July 20, 2015 #11 Share Posted July 20, 2015 Without a Passport you will not be able to take excursions to Canada in Skagway. Yep, that would be the Yukon and BC as noted above.
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 20, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 20, 2015 I strongly suggest you take your passports. If something would happen and you need to get home quickly, a passport is most helpful -- whether it be you or someone at home.

I'm not sure if everyone had one (and if not, what happened) as both of us had our passports with us.

Doug S Posted July 21, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 21, 2015 Not just needed for rail tour. We took a privately booked motor coach tour along the same route (road is on opposite side of river from tracks), and passed through into Canada and a passport or passport card was required for that tour. Not sure if all the private vehicles crossing the border needed them.

That would be correct for any trip beyond the Summit as you need a passport or other WHTI compliant document such as a NEXUS card, passport card or EDL.
