Help me understand Price drops and how to get the money back

I booked an early saver rate for Carnival Sunshine, and used a Personal Cruise Specialist (I called the #800, got assigned one, yada yada yada)

I'm booked in a 2 spa room balconies, with adjoining cabin. My last payment is due late November.

I guess I'm really confused on how to go about finding 1) "if" the rate drops

and 2) what do I do about it. In the past, we always seem to be booked in a odd-level of cabin due to our large family, so I never can tell if the price drops or not.

Is there a beginner's guide to price drops somewhere?

I just go through like I'm booking a cabin & check the pricing on the same cabin category. If I see the price has dropped, I complete the online price protection form. I've done it 3 times on my upcoming cruise. I usually check on a travel website and on Carnival's website - there's never been a difference, but I just have to be sure.

This is not really difficult at all!

Make believe you are booking a new cruise and see what price will be charged for the same cabin that you have already booked.

IF the price is lower then put in the claim form (or call) for the amount that is lower.

IF you are after final payment you will bet the difference in the form of on board credit.

IF it is before final payment then your price will drop.

Yup, that's how you do it. If I think there is a drop, I usually just call my PVP and she takes care of it. I hardly ever get one, but on our last cruise on the Dream, we got over $600 off at one time on our balcony cabin. That was nice!

You can sign up for alerts. I use cruise fish (dot) net. Costs $1 per alert. You get an email when the price drops, or you can have it set to notify you of any price change. It definitely works.

We are cruising a b2b in April and I've already submitted 3 price drops/obc. One thing is, the alert will not tell you when obc is offered. (They had a $50 per room offer I jumped on)

I also use cruise fish (one word) - while it costs $1 per cruise price alert you have to do purchase five dollars worth. That five dollars has paid off brilliantly for us. We have been alerted four times to price drops in our cabin category for our sailing a total of $400 discount. Once we know the Price for our cabin category, we call our travel agent and share the information with the travel agent does all the work for us.

Google "carnival fare viewer", you can also search for "fare viewer" on the carnival website. You then plug in ship, type of cabin, date of sailing, and how many people in cabin. You have to prove your not a robot, entering code provided. It brings up prices according to cabin, 8C for example. You can see what the price is and then fill out a price adjustment form on the Carnival website. I usually hear from them by email within a couple of hours.

We are sailing Carnival for the first time, I've had some level of luck/success with this in the past using RCC and Celebrity but did have a question.

If we book an interior cabin for $400.00 and haven't made final payment yet, then all fares drop, so interior cabin goes down to $350.00 and ocean view drops to $400.00 can we upgrade to ocean view for free rather then taking the price drop on the interior?

Defiantly agree with taking screen shots of lower prices. I submitted a price drop from and didn't hear anything back from them. I called them and because I had the screen capture, I was able to tell them the exact sale and price, and after a half hour of hold time, was able to get the difference in on board credit.

Thank you, I signed up today.

Cruise fish even outsmarted our TA on one of the price drops. It was a Mother's Day special on spa balcony cabins only and included a $50 onboard credit. When I called our travel agent she asked where did you hear about this sale? I wouldn't tell her I simply said the Internet. She called Carnival and lo and behold there was indeed a Mother's Day spa balcony cabin sale only for two days.

Done! Cruise fish has been a great investment for me.

If I remember correctly, the price protection form has a box to check for upgrade or obc. My category keeps showing up as sold out, so it's been a while since I've been able to submit any price drops. I've been watching for a cabin upgrade as well because I'd love to be on Lido deck.

Thank you all so much! I just filled out the price protection form. It seems that my room and my husband's (we have too many kids for 1 room) has dropped 120.00 EACH!!!!!!! So I'm hoping I did it all right, and I saved a screen shot to email them as proof!!!!

This really only works if you have a category that has many rooms.

Long ago, we booked a "premium balcony" on miracle, and there were only 8 (I think) on the ship, so we never could take advantage of price drops even though all other categories were dropping.
