Curtis Stone restaurant is called 'SHARE'

From the article in the first post:"Sun Princess in April 2016, which will bring Chef Stone’s restaurant to his home country, Australia".

Well, they already are having more passenger participation entertainment and less real entertainers. Now they can cut down on wait staff as the passengers will be passing the food around. At least that's what it sounds like to me.

 

LOL. That's funny. Carnival did a thing similar to this where they introduced some dishes "for the table." People were supposed to share. It was primarily appetizers. I haven't been back on Carnival for awhile, but at the time I thought the idea was badly received.

Share will replace Sabatini's on Emerald, Ruby and Coral. On Sun it will replace the pizzeria. (From Cruise Radio).

No problem with allergies or diet choices.
When someone has a food allergy, it's always a problem or else they have to spend time explaining their allergy, often to someone who hasn't a clue and thinks it's probably a minor inconvenience. "Share" is probably not a good choice for them and should be avoided. I've noticed that cruise editors are already snickering about the possible spread of Noro.

I was all excited about a celebrity chef specialty restaurant on Princess until I found out it's a "communal table" concept! Talk about germs and awkwardness! No thank you! DH and I like romantic dinners for 2 on cruises, and this totally eliminates that romantic Italian dinner experience at Sabatini's.

I guess it's what you're used to, because, in my opinion, good Italian food is not found in NY either. There is a world of difference between NY Italian and real Italian. My MIL was from Italy and I found her cooking to be closer to what I found in Italy.

 

And even within Italy, Italian food varies depending upon the region.

Not liking SHARE, similar menu to Crown Grill and would rather eat in Crown Grill. It seems like it's trying to be a "Vegas" style restaurant. Would rather see a totally different type of menu. Hope Suite breakfast will be in the SHARE restaurant. Expected a better menu from Curtis Stone, my opinion.

Will look forward to opinions from those trying it after opening.

Beat me to it. after seeing this video (on the Princess FB page), I am MUCH more interested in this concept. I quite like the idea of going as a couple and sharing a series of dishes. It' nice to know the venue will offer both the "family style" option that was described, and this more intimate option.

 

I haven't heard how much or little the venue would change. To me while the Wheelhouse Bar (look in my signature to know which ships I draw my point of reference from) did not previously serve food, which a pub would be more likely to do, the venue seemed rather "pub-ish" already. Dark woods and greens and VERY English paintings and artwork. Brass railings. Put maybe a pub band in there, more of an emphasis on pints and snacks and maybe take off a couple pieces of art and add a dart board or two and you could almost be done with it right there.

 

It may stay really familiar and just have more functions that it performs

 

Fair points. I may have fallen into the CruiseCritic trap of judging before I'd heard details (who, me? Never!) :D I guess I'm just a little protective of the Wheelhouse because it holds so many fond memories for us. I'll try to keep an open mind; I'll try. ;)

Pam in CA food allergies are serious, are you saying guests should steer clear of the specialty restaurants? I think that would be rather limiting, but maybe best if Princess can't accommodate someone with an allergy. I don't know, but does the main dining room have an allergy kitchen?

As a solo cruiser, the main reason I go to specialty restaurants is to get away from the hubbub of larger eateries so I'm definitely doubtful about this concept.

 

However, I am on the Ruby in January so I'll take a look at it; I might even go one night and ask for a table on my own (as I usually do) and see how they handle it. I'm certainly not averse to trying something new so long as I'm not thrust into a crowd of strangers.

Those tacky framed family photos of strangers on the walls in the concept image remind me of the photos that came in new wallets typically purchased at the five and dime. Color me unimpressed with the design and cold furnishings. I hope the food saves the day.

Yes, absolutely they should stay clear of some specialty restaurants. My daughter is very allergic to shellfish and even a serving utensil used incorrectly is enough to make her violently ill. I've traveled with a friend who is so allergic to shellfish that any cross-contamination could literally kill her. She travels with an epi-pen since it's a life-threatening allergy. It's not just a matter of accommodation.

 

The main dining room kitchens have separate prep areas for each food item so allergic reactions and general food cross-contamination can be controlled. For instance, poultry is prepped completely separately.

 

With a family-style serving restaurant, even inadvertent cross-contamination is very possible.

The email we got from Princess announcing SHARE had a video.

There seemed to be quite a few tables for two and four as well as larger tables.

Wonder if you could make a reservation for two to "share" at SHARE if you would like to have dinner with others you don't know?

The whole concept is so unfriendly to the solo cruiser that it turned me off immediately. Notwithstanding that, we are looking at photos of one seriously ugly restaurant. The furniture looks like something from a 1970s rec room. As for the lighting fixtures etched with the chef's own recipes -- also tacky. Swing and a miss, Curtis.

 

Cosy.

Intimate.

Comfortable.

 

None of these come to mind from this drawing. Hideous hard furniture-form over function.

 

No white tablecloth. No mood lighting.

 

I'll go if there is one on the ship I am sailing on as I am curious to taste "his" food (not cooked by him obviously) but I'll be booking a two top as the last thing I want to experience is a dinner with 8 or 10 strangers all talking at once and having to stop eating to pass the pasta or whatever. I prefer my food hot and all served on the plate at the same time by someone who isn't me.

I am very disappointed to see Sabatini's go - I "got" the concept of Northern Italian and really enjoyed it. The room is also stunning on the Emerald and Ruby. Looks like it gets a refresh as it's reinvented for this concept.

Was it called the Santa Fe? I'm a chips and dip person so I really liked it and you got the free drink. Food was ok. :)

Funny, I was just thinking about this a week or so ago. There was a southwestern restaurant on the Grand and Golden (if I remember correctly). Don't remember the name (something like "Santa Fe" or something like that?), but remember enjoying it, though I seem to remember it being a bit odd that the public path sort of led passengers through the middle of the restaurant seating area when walking to and from the Princess Theater area. Then they turned them into "Sterling Steakhouse" restaurants, which weren't quite as good, IMHO; the precursor to the Crown Grill.

I remember the Painted Desert & for $5 it included a margarita. :D

 

We dined there on the Grand & Star which is now the Crown Grill. The Golden also had it in the same location before the overhaul moved the casino to where the Painted Desert was originally located. The original casino location is where they built the Crown Grill and the WS cabins.

 

I believe the food was described as Santa Fe style even though it was Mexican food. ;)

I do agree that the dining room looks ugly.

Princess has (or should have) a huge backlog of beautiful photos from the contest they held when the Royal and Regal came out.

What a shame that they wouldn't have thought to use those instead of the fake family photos that remind me of every inexpensive Italian-style chain restaurant I've been in. :(
