surfjock27 Posted October 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 12, 2015 A few months back I purchased some new luggage for my upcoming December cruise on the Breeze. While pre-packing tonight, I decided to look at luggage restrictions on the Carnival website, having not thought to do so before. On the Carnival website it says that the luggage must be 24 X 16. Mine is 28 x 19. I spent a good penny on this luggage or I'd just say forget it and get something else that fits the requirements. It's 100% my fault for not thinking and looking beforehand. Has anyone cruised with luggage larger than the restricted size, and if so, what happened? I don't want to be told to unpack, or be charged a huge amount at port. Thanks in advance for the help. SadieN Posted October 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) What's the third dimension of your luggage? Usually it's around 10-12 inches. 19x12x28 is fine. Don't go over 50#. The backs of the 100# luggage stewards will thank you. How are you getting to port? The airlines are more restrictive. pohlerbear Posted October 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2015 We took two of the biggest suitcases made in without issue. They still fit under the bed too.
shipty2 Posted October 12, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 12, 2015 We have been on 20 cruises with luggage larger than that without issue.

The luggage size restriction only applies to carry on luggage because it must fit through the scanner. Anything over 24 x 16 must be checked with the porters to be delivered to your cabin later in the day. Hope this helps.
cb at sea Posted October 12, 2015 #6 Share Posted October 12, 2015 The cruise lines have few restrictions....what you're reading is for CARRYON....check your bag, and you'll be fine!
SewMuch Posted October 12, 2015 #7 Share Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) I looked at the Carnival FAQ and it says "24X16, there are NO LENGTH RESTRICTIONS". So the 24X16 is the width and depth, not width and length. Edited October 12, 2015 by SewMuch
vwrestler171 Posted October 12, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 12, 2015 As the others have posted, as long as you check your bag, you will be fine.

ATL_Miami_Cruiser Posted October 12, 2015 #10 Share Posted October 12, 2015 If it's an oversized luggage set allowed on airplanes, I think you'll be ok. As long as it's not one of those huge victorian luggage trunks made of solid wood :D

With a suitcase that size, if you were flying, you'd have to be careful not to go over the 50 lb weight limit. I have a 29" roller-back that I'm no longer using because it's so easy to go over the weight limit for airlines. I don't have that trouble with my 25". My elegant night clothes (lightweight) go in my husband's bag.
Miller_KC Posted October 12, 2015 #14 Share Posted October 12, 2015 As long as it's not one of those huge victorian luggage trunks made of solid wood :D I made that joke with a Carnival rep and she said that Steamer Trunks are still specifically allowed in the Carnival checked luggage documentation but pointed out that it would take up a lot of room in the cabin. The sizes that you mention are for carry on luggage, not checked bags.

That's too funny. Imagine if half the ship used those real wood Steamer Trunks, those union guys on the docks would file a grievance with Carnival to get passengers to stop using them lol
