I Love Coastal Kitchen

Recommended Posts

I have read some mixed reviews lately of people who have gone to coastal kitchen. I thought I would share my experience.

On my Sept sailing of the oasis, I booked a crown loft suite. I had heard good things about the CK and was able to get reservations for 6pm every night (from emailing concierge prior to boarding).

1. The location is amazing. It's a nice calm quiet place in the middle of a busy ship.

2. The service was perfect. Plenty of attn. whatever I needed ( on the menu or not) was gotten. I am not a fan of RCCL deserts, so they actually went and got sherbet for us from the MDR for every night of the cruise. Also, brought me a caesar salad, when it was not on the menu. Cant say enough about the service.

3. quality of the food, in my opinion was much better then the MDR, and in my opinion the CK and sabor are the two best places on the ship

as a result on my upcoming oasis sailing I booked a suite Specifically so I could have access to the CK. Of course, I like the other benefits, but it's just such a different experience in the ck vs the MDR

just my thoughts

Oh no! You didn't get the salted caramel pudding. Make sure you at least try it next time. It's fantastic.

I did try it. I hated it. Honestly, I have tried most of their sweets and did not like them. None of my friends do either. However, the carrot cake that they randomly had in the MDR was very good.

In fact. I think the only Desert that is any good is the white bon voyage cake that I often order and have sent to my room. Overall, I think the food is good quality and find little to complain about ( except maybe the hit or miss scenario with the steaks) but I definitely am NOT a fan of their sweets, I find them very bland.

But that has nothing to do with CK it is amazing overall

We cruised 4 times this year on the Oasis. Without exception, we ate breakfast, lunch and diner at the Coastal Kitchen during each cruise. To us the food was very good and the service was excellent.

Will be sailing on an Oasis Class ship 5 times next year. The Coastal Kitchen and the Suite Lounge are the main reasons we chose an Oasis Class ship.

We are sailing on Allure this Nov 29 in a Grand Suite. Plan on eating in CK very often. What kind of tipping did you do in CK and Lounge? We will not have a Bev package. Do the CK waiters participate in the ship wide tipping?

Tipped $10 each night for dinner. Did not tip for breakfast or lunch.

In the Suite Lounge tipped $5 in the afternoon and $5 in the evening each day.

We've also enjoyed CK on both Allure and Quantum, service had always been excellent each and every time on both ships.

For dinner we would tip $10 for the two of us. We did bring guests one night on Allure and one night on Quantum in which we tipped $20 for the 4 of us. Never made it to breakfast on Allure, lunch we tipped $5 for the two of us.

Whether gratuities for CK are included or not, don't know and don't really care.

Looking froward to CK on our Anthem sailing in 9 days.

Linda--What kind of tipping did you do in the Suite Lounge? What about tipping for the Concierge if they help you in any way?

We gave the bar server and each Concierge on Allure $20 each for the week as we rarely went into the SL at night and had no requests from the Concierges. As a Club Royale member, we can get any kind of drinks free in the casino, we do give a tip for those drinks.

Never thought about tipping nightly. Thats a really good idea. I was feeling bad, thinking I did not give the maitre de enough cash on the last night. I think I will follow your lead and leave some every night. I dont know why I didnt think of that. Great idea. Thanks

We are with you Tim, we though the salted caramel was very good.

Add me as a fan of the salted caramel pudding. But even better was the dark chocolate tiramisu. Fabulous! (This was on the recent Anthem TA.)

I am usually disappointed by most ship-board desserts. But these were excellent.

Had it 4 times when we were on Oasis this spring.

Agree CK is in a wonderful location. The view is fantastic. The service is great.

But to be honest, CK was the big disappointment of our recent Oasis cruise. The dinner menus leave much to be desired in our opinion. We only found one attractive entree on each menu. After one night, we dined elsewhere. The lunch menu was worse. Breakfast was fine.

We enjoyed the suites lounge. BTW, the chicken wings on the buffet were great.

I was told by one of the waiters on the Oasis that they are changing to nightly menus sometime in January. Hope he was accurate on that little tidbit of information. I really like Coastal Kitchen and eat there most nights, but would welcome more menu selections. I can only speak for the CK on Oasis; but in my opinion the manager, hostess and waiters are superior to any restaurant in the fleet.

We got off Oasis today. Enjoyed CK and the Suite Lounge. Vane, Gladez and the rest of the team are the best.

Here's a little tip for everyone. Did you know CK on Oasis does room service for breakfast? The door to the kitchen in the main hallway opened as we were leaving and two crew walked out carrying trays. They confirmed that they were doing room service deliveries for breakfast and that it was not advertised. This was the last day before debarkation so we didn't try it. Also, forgot to ask if this was just for the Crown Loft Suites. They did say it was only for breakfast. This might be only for Oasis.

That's great news on the nightly menus. I certainly hope that is true for Oasis. The lunch menu could really use some help too. We're on Allure in March. Hopeful we will see that too. CK is too lovely to suffer from the weak menus. I'm thinking the current menus are a carry over from the failed rollout of Dynamic Dining and they will adjust. We gave CK, it's staff, and the service great marks in our post cruise survey but not the menus.

BTW, I have to agree about the manager. Every time I saw him he was doing something. Even fetching ice for the bar. The hostess was top notch. So eager to please. The only issue I had was with the lady bartender. I asked her for a diet coke and she said I would have to come back in 30 minutes after they opened at eleven. What's so funny is the manager gave me a coke about an hour earlier. I didn't make an issue just moved on.

The male bartender was good too. I started giving him a few dollars every night and he started pouring my drink when I walked in the lounge.

We're in an owners suite on Allure and I'm sure we will enjoy the extra space but the crown loft sure was nice being only a few steps from the lounge.
