No more cash from Casino Teller

Recommended Posts

I received an email today, with many details about my reservation on The Oasis, February 6-13, 2016. Under Onboard Guest Credit, it lists the $300 in OBC that I was awarded when I made the reservation onboard last February, as well as another $100 OBC that I "bought" with Royal Caribbean VISA bonus points.

Above the accounting, it states:

Royal Caribbean will post the credit(s) to your onboard account on the 2nd day of your cruise.

Below the accounting, it states:

Please note, this onboard credit is subject to ship staff validation, and cannot be used in the casino, nor can it be converted to cash. It must be used by the end of the cruise or surrendered.

I can understand that RC would much rather I spend it in the shops, or up-sell restaurants, or excursions. Are they really sticking to the above restriction? If so, that would eliminate being able to get a voucher (or whatever it is called) to be used in the casino, and then cashing it in at some sort of machine as you leave the casino.

If they enforce this, I will be very disappointed. :( I had counted on cashing in the OBC to cover part of the cost of our airfare and pre-cruise hotel, as well as having cash to hand out to some staff members on the last day.

This brings up an interesting thought...

Is it possible that the cash people could not receive was being drawn against non-refundable OBC but that if it is refundable OBC (such as that you bought with cash/credit ahead of time) or if the is NO OBC on your account so it is against your credit card or cash you have put on the account you can?

My docs said that earlier this year but we were able to take out our OBC at the casino

When I was denied cash at the casino teller I had $500 fully refundable OBC.

I moved $1000 from my credit card points to OBC on Grandeur and have always taken it out from the casino for EXTRA tips and shopping in ports. Today we are told we CANNOT take it out!! What do I need from the ships stores that cost $1000? Really upset!

You need to speak to the Casino Manager and/or the Hotel Director.

If you do not get a satisfactory answer from the casino manager then you may have to pay the 5% convenience fee in order to get it.

You can request $1000 on your seapass account at one of the tables in the casino. They will charge you $50 but at least you can get your money. It certainly is better than losing it altogether or wasting it on food/services onboard that you really don't want.

The only way to get around the 5% convenience fee is to be a VIP member of Club Royale

(or have the manager waive the fee this one time). Might be an expensive lesson....

Who told you that you could not take it out there?

If you set up a cash account when you check in you can take money out at the casino without paying the 5% fee

Have not cruised in a number of years and not sure I understand the casino situation as it is now. How does it work? Do you have to have cash in hand to convert to chips/put in slots? or can you use your sea pass to get chips/play slots? If you have OBC on your sea pass will the casino bypass that and charge your credit card on file? Very confused and know that hubby and DS will be even more so. Want to be able to know so I can share with them.

TIA!

If this is an OBC, Guest Services should refund the money to you, without a service charge.

I would NEVER pay 5% to get cash...bring what you need! If it's unused OBC..use it!

They certainly won't charge a percentage to cash out your winnings....at least, I hope! That would mean you're a loser, even if you win!

Not sure about how the Visa Points work, but I've never heard of OBC given as a booking bonus directly from the cruise-line being refundable. In fact, they will use it against any on-board spending first, before any other form of payment (like a cash deposit or your credit card) and keep doing so until it is gone. And you certainly ought to expect the terms they sent you in writing will be enforced. Sorry. :(

Yes, the casino is a cash-only deal. You can get a "cash advance" (chips) using your Seapass card, which basically charges against your onboard account. To get the "cash advance" (which can then either be played or cashed at the cashier's cage) the ship will charge you a 5% convenience fee (it used to be 3%). If you are a Club Royale VIP member the 5% convenience fee is waived.

There is also an option to set up an account with the casino before you come onboard but I know nothing about how to accomplish this.

So for playing in the casino, the options are....bring cash, get cash onboard or set up an account ahead of time.

Of course, there are also ATMs onboard but using that also comes at a cost.

I just take a couple of thousand dollars in cash when I go on a cruise.

So easy.

If you enjoy traveling with that much cash. Not a big fan of it, myself and I would not call it easy. If I need money and cannot get it from the casino, I use the ATM on the ship and use an account that refunds the outrageous service charge.

As I understand it, the OP stated that this was a redemption in Visa points, which is different than an RCI-bestowed OBC. It is a credit card benefit, and any unused portion should be refunded to her or to her account.

I'm not aware of any Visa points other than thee RCI issued card that could be used for OBC. Perhaps the poster can clarify the details.

Even though the card has Royal's name on it, it is actually a bank credit card and the OBC from it is fully refundable unlike the OBC that Royal issues for its promotions.

The RCCL Visa like the Celebrity Visa is a Bank of America card and unused OBC from point redemption thru BoA is fully refundable if not used.
