Cruise card question

It's been a number of years since we last cruised and for the life of me, I can't remember how we carried our cruise cards. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can best carry these cards around? On lanyards? A wristlet? I know we have to take them with us when we leave the ship. And I presume we need them if we want to charge drinks, etc to our stateroom. thanks in advance for your feedback!

Bring or buy a Lanyard on board with a clasp on the bottom. Have a hole punched in your Cruise Card (bring your own hole punch is much more convenient) so it will firmly attach to the lanyard. Yes, it is your room key, charge card and absolutely necessary to leave and re-board the ship.

Thanks everyone! I'll be sure to put a hole punch in our luggage. Normally, I'd opt for my pocket but we're supposed to dress in layers (Alaska in 2016) so I'd get confused as to which pocket in what layer I had put the card in to!

Thanks again!

We always go by the Passenger Service Desk first thing and have a hole punched. Very easy to do and you don't need to bring your own punch. Also, you can get a hole punched at the Casino.

If you get your hole punched at the casino...after it opens...they will give you a springy (curly cord) lanyard.

Great to know! Think I'll go that route ... Now all I need is a lanyard!

We stop by the casino and get them to punch a hole in our cruise card and they give you a bungee as in the picture for your card. We use that as out lanyard so that we always know where the card is, plus it is stretchy so it is easy to pull it down to open the door. We hang these next to the door on a magnetic hook that we bring to remind us to take them when we leave the room. (Not sure if you knew that the doors, walls, and ceilings are magnetic?)

If you are not a lanyard person, you can clip it to a belt loop and put the card and coil in your pocket as well, but I think it is much easier around the neck.

Happy Cruising!

Oops, someone already shared this advice with you while I was looking for the picture... at least now you have the picture!

Actually I think the walls etc are just steel, not actually actively magnetic, otherwise it would be a risky thing to do to hang your card on them. These cards are very easily affected by anything magnetic and then will not work in your doorlock.

I have accidentally made mine inoperative with the magnetic clasp on my Kindle cover, within half an hour of boarding, and its not a very strong magnet. Purses are another culprit.

I have a small 2-card leather wallet. Inexpensive at the leather product store. My regular wallet and passport case go in the safe. I would NEVER massacre my cruise card.

If you are really into showing off your card, you can get lanyards with a pocket for the card. That way you don't have to punch it, and it is easier to use to open your stateroom door.

Very good point, and a bad word choice on my part! Yes the walls are a metal that works with magnets, and are not magnetic themselves! I totally screwed up, and should have written the following:

(Not sure if you knew that the doors, walls, and ceilings are METAL?) And they work with magnets that you can bring.

Thanks for the catch Griller!

Happy Cruising!

THANK YOU! Tip recorded on my Cruise Notepad #2, yes, there's SO much information on Cruise Critic, I filled a notepad right up!

Just been told another work colleague is sailing on the same 3 night cruise. Hope he behaves himself, he's "allegedly" booked the Suite next to me, and he's known for "bending his elbow" and the 3 night cruises, allegedly, are nicknamed "Booze Cruises." He's 1 I had to remind, with annoying regularity, to fill in his Time Sheet to get his pay, so not always organised! I bet HE"S the fool that forgets to pack something vital! S., the other work colleague, has a Packing List already written out, so no worries there!

Agree! We always bring several magnets to hold stuff on the wall. A copy of the day's Patter, invitations to events, reservations for dining or excursions, etc. VERY handy. (Oh, and notes to our steward if necessary.)

The staff must have pre-punched them on just your ship. They normally don't come that way .

Some use a lanyard, some use a purse some just stick t in a pocket, some ladies shove it down their bra. And yes I've seen wrist bands used too. When you leave the ship surely you will be taking other things like cash and credit card so I'd say with them while off the ship.

My card is clipped using two jump rings and no coil. Just long enough and no coil to worry about.

That's okay. Reinforcing concept!

If you have a handy person with you (or do it at home for the next trip), you can disassemble the end of the bunny cord...shorten it...and then it is not so bulky. I shortened my to about 10 - 12 inches/stretched out. Works connected to my purse, my pant loop, etc.

I have lost my cruise card and de-magnitized them several times on a cruise. Very sensitive and I am convinced, it is not always my fault.
