Would be interesting when you post your pictures, to list your camera and what lens you used. Members looking to expand their camera gear for nature photography would get a greater idea on what they needed to capture their interest. Nature photography covers pictures from using a macro lens all the way to super zooms at 1200mm or more.

I could post a thousand, but I'll spare you and throw up a few that made me exceptionally happy. Many more shots accessible through the link in my signature.

 

All shots were with either a Canon 50D or a 5DmkIII with a variety of lenses.

 

First up is the Bethany Pentecostal Church in Montserrat, illustrating the futility of man "controlling" nature. Shot during a flightseeing tour from Antigua.

Nothing like a hike on Mendenhall Glacier to make you feel small. Another shot from this excursion wound up in a Celebrity brochure a couple years back.

I've never been to SeaWorld, but I can't imagine the experience could beat seeing orca shenanigans in the wild. This one wasn't on a cruise excursion, but on a little pre-cruise trip out of Campbell River, BC. A pod of transient orca was "flirting" with a resident pod. The guide even dropped a mic into the water and we could hear them singing.

Last fall, I woke up to a phenomenal sunrise over the Adriatic in Ravenna. Shot from our veranda on Connie.

Beautiful pictures! I do have a question about Montserrat...we were on a cruise last September and passed Montserrat near sunrise as we were sailing into St. Kitts. Nevis was due east but we could still see Montserrat and Redonda. It was clear but appeared as if there was still some smoke coming from the Montserrat volcano. Were you able to tell if it was still releasing smoke?

Just some steam from a few vents. My wife and I are convinced we trigger eruptions, but only by leaving. Kilauea and Etna both erupted dramatically within a couple of months after we visited. This one and Vesuvius....well, I guess we need to try again!

Thank you for the information. I knew that the Soufriere Hills volcano has erupted and is still considered "active", but wasn't sure if it was doing anything at the moment or not. When we passed that morning, I just thought it was a few clouds but once I got home and saw the pictures on the computer, I wasn't sure it it was clouds or smoke (steam/ash) since what was around the "peak" on the right (Soufriere Hills?) looked a little different and more like a "haze". If we ever get to Antigua, I'd love to do the "flightseeing" tour.

 

It's not the best quality since I used a lot of zoom and it was still very early (between 5:30 & 6AM), but this is the picture of Montserrat I mentioned.
