Ovation: is she the poor relation?

Recommended Posts

Just posted on "All things Ovation.." thread.

The absence of a Broadway Show on Ovation was confirmed to me on Twitter and is absolutely contrary to what Royal Caribbean had advertised.

@MyRoyalUK this #myclubroyal flyer specifically promotes a Broadway Show myclubroyal.co.uk/assets/_rccl/p…

Am I being short-changed?

I wouldn't look to cancel because of this but it seems blatantly misleading, particularly leaving it so late. Royal must have been aware for quite some time that they weren't going to deliver on their promise.

More from Twitter..

@markfazzy @RoyalCaribbean Sorry Mark, the arrangements for wow bands is slightly different on Ovation of the Seas.

Slightly different = a $5 charge. Tiny in itself but relevant in the context of this thread...

Does that mean we're not going to see the show girls :(

For more information, you could always check out this page on the Royal Caribbean website which has really useful ship-specific fact sheets.

http://bookings.royalcaribbean.co.uk/ourCompany/pressCenter/kitAndFacts.do

Not really worth it though is it ......

The cruise is booked, the money has been paid ..... there's 22 days to go.

No matter what info there is, it's too late. So who cares really .....

I'm in that camp too, I just want a good cruise and I love Royal Caribbean.

But at what point do you consider that Royal Caribbean have been misleading in their advertised product?

I suspect that if you bought a new car which advertised a top-of-the-range multi-media entertainment system and then you discovered (not told by the vendor) that it was just an old radio, you'd probably expect at least an explanation and an apology. In fact, you'd probably expect the dealer to put it right or pay compensation.

Why is it ok for Royal Caribbean to offer no explanation or apology, let alone any monetary compensation?

Could they just decide to drop one or more of the restaurants or not open one of the pools? (Btw the answer is probably yes...)

The entertainment is a key component of the cruise offer and, at the moment, the Ovation feels like the poor relation.

I have my meal times and venues all sorted but what happens to people just booking, seems the Grade and a few other are not there now, do they booked up ? and if they what happens to newbies

They'll all stay outside getting drunk as it's a "booze cruise" in your opinion.

So does this mean that we have got the music hall after all & not an extended casino......Absolutely love Rock the Boat, I also saw this on our April 17th roll call

Looks like the Wild Boys 80s cover band are confirmed for this cruise and the ones before and after.

Saw them on the Quantum, they were a great live band. So at least thats something in the entertainment line to look forward to!

So glad to hear that we have got the Music Hall after all, I really like the way the entertainment is shaping up, lots of variety & only 5 days to get to see it all. :D

I agree Donna. Plenty of entertainment there to keep us happy for 5 days. Not to mention all the fabulous dining options.

Also from past experience Royal are pretty generous compensating passengers when things go wrong while on a cruise.

On the Maiden Quantum transatlantic everyone got $300 refundable on board credit and a future cruise certificate to the value of 25% of their cruise fare. That was because things weren't quite ready, such as the bionic bar, 270 screens were still being installed and quite a few workmen were on board although those of us in inside cabins all got free upgrades to balconies to accommodate them so we didn't mind!

Got this answer from RCI today

You will only be able to book entertainment after embarkation through the IQ app.

thats worth knowing, but does it mean early boards get in first , we board early so its ok but many wont be able to use the app until later and indeed many wont have an app at all,

I would think most early boarders are suite passengers so they may already have had concierge reserve for them. Just a guess, as I've not been on RCI, in about 5 years.

April 21 cruisers can book, flow rider, north star and ifly.

Again, same arrangement as on Quantum and Anthem.

In the context of the thread they're all the same so no 'poor relation' there.
