I Would to also state that I used 6 the Free pulls (mine & DW's D+ coupon) and did not win a Key-chain recently on Oasis.:mad::mad:

That's why on all our RCCL Cruises I keep one of our Casino slot machine tokens/coins. That way I don't walk away empty handed. Makes for a nice souvenir.

I mean honestly, it's a flippin' Casino. Sometimes you win, most the time you don't! Deal with it!!!! Not to mention it's a slot machine - one armed bandits that will take your money. Never touched one!!

...on that type of machine, you do expect to hit the bonus every once in a while to at least extend your playing time. Not hitting that bonus even once in 130 spins seems pretty bad.

Expect? There's no such a thing when you're playing games of chance, no matter how good you think you are or how you think that you have the game all figured out. No wonder so many people get in so much trouble gambling.

Not hitting the bonus in 130 spins is called one thing: BAD LUCK. Nothing else.

When ever I sit down in front of a slot, on land or at sea, the only thing I expect is that I will be making a donation. :D

Let Webster's break it down for you:

gam•ble

ˈɡambəl/

verb

1. play games of chance for money; bet

2. take risky action in the hope of a desired result

3. an act of gambling; an enterprise undertaken or attempted with a risk of loss and a chance of profit or success

Slot machines are not purely games of chance. Yes, there is an element of randomness in it, but they are basically set to pay out, over time, a certain percentage of what goes in. I'm certainly not a big gambler, but I've visited casinos from time to time and played these types of machines.

So, yes, there can be an expectation of hitting a bonus, if you play long enough. It's sort of like flipping a coin 10 times, you'd expect it to come up heads more than once out of 10 flips. You seem to be confusing expectation with guarantee. There's no guarantee you'd see "heads" at all in 10 flips of a coin, but it would be highly unusual to get "tails" 10 times out of 10 and might make you wonder if the coin was rigged.

I just play for fun a couple times. Set a limit (usually $20) and go with it. When its gone, its gone!

The last time on Reflection I played the Alice in Wonderland bandit and after 3 spins I won $59...I left and cashed in. If you do that every time, you end up coming away with a little money! Key is to stop and cash in the minute you win over $20. You can then come back the next day, etc.

Why not the table chips instead, they have the ships name. I generally grab the cleanest one I am given and pop it in my pocket.

Fyi, I knew I would get flamed for posting this, so much for people understanding the work and effort one puts into in organizing a slot pull. Of course we did not tell the casino which machine we were going to use. And yes, I did buy powerball tickets the day we sailed. We had a great time dreaming up all the ways to spend our money. So happy I could entertain all of you.

You bring up an interesting point. I am assuming you did not win the lottery, right? So are you also pursuing the lottery for a refund on your losses? You do realize that doing that is no more stupid or ridiculous then asking the casino for your money back. LOL

I have absolutely no gambling spirit in me, but joined a slot pull on our last TA. It certainly did not change my mind about gambling!

One of the board members prearranged, and we won next to nothing with over $900 in the pool. I could not help but think if I were trying to entice casual gamblers into the casino, I might have been just a little more generous .

Actually, that's quite a bit different, because you're talking about hitting a lottery jackpot (which is something like a 1 in 200+ million chance) versus getting a chance to play the bonus spin on a slot machine. Of course, the odds of the latter can very, depending upon how the machine is set up, but it's a whole lot more common than winning a Powerball jackpot. Maybe a once every 30 or 40 spins, for the games like that I've played.

That is part of the draw of playing games like this, that you do get to play the bonus part from time to time. It's not an expectation that you "win" and end up with more money than you started; just that you get a bonus play every now and then.

I think the OP should just let it go, but I do understand the disappointment, and the suspicion that there may have been something wrong with the machine.

Just wanted to let you know that we just got off the Allure today. Great cruise, except for one thing. I organized a slot pull with people from Cruise Critic. 33 of us pitched in $15.00 each. We pulled on a wheel of fortune machine, $5.00 per bet which was the maximum. With some small winnings we had, we played over $650.00. which was 130 pulls. NOT ONE SPIN ON THE WHEEL! Something is wrong here, either your machine was broken or it is fixed. We spoke to the casino host, guest services, Florence in the Royal Casino Dept. Nobody gave us any satisfaction. We have played wheel of fortune machines all over, in casinos in the states, Vegas, and on many other cruises. We have always gotten at least 1 spin of the wheel for a lot less money played. What say you???

We even spoke to the cruise director, Jake, who was advertising on the tv in the room to play the wheel of fortune machine. HE PULLED HIS AD AFTER SPEAKING TO US. HE AGREED SOMETHING IS WRONG!!

I know there is no guarantees in gambling and we expect not to win, but does this sound normal? I think not.

I am posting this to let others know what a rip off the casino is. I hope some of you don't feel compelled to flame me.

The last thing the casino host said was we should have played the $3.00 max bet and we would have gotten free spins. Does this make sense? Spend less and win more?

Others can make fun of your post but I totally agree with you. I usually have some luck in the casinos on ships, nothing big but at least win back some of what I've spent, enough to make it fun. Recently sailed Oasis and had no luck at all in the casino. I did win $200 at bingo. I usually do good on the wheel of fortune machines so I went to the casino and put the $200 in it. I did not get even one spin of the wheel. I think that only once I hit a $15 win but that was all. I also played some other machines with no luck. I have not been on Allure but on Oasis the problem is no one is playing the machines. Maybe because they've learned they don't pay good but I think it is because there is so much to do on the ship people don't have as much time to waste sitting at a machine. I have discovered that in any casino the machines pay off better when a lot of people are playing them.

I recently did a slot pull on Navigator on the wheel of fortune machine. There was 18 of us who put in $21 each for a goal of $378 or 126 pulls at $3 each. Of those 126 pulls we spun the wheel 4 times which seems like a good average. We ended up breaking about even. I didn't have the heart to tell them I had won $600 on that same machine the day before! :D

But again, it's not that the machine gives a bonus every 30 pulls, it's that it gives out a certain percentage of bonuses RANDOMLY OVER TIME.

If the set number were indeed 3.33333% of pulls get a bonus, while you might EXPECT three bonuses out of 100 pulls, due to the RANDOMNESS of the whole thing, that may not be the way it pays out. You could pull 150 times and not get a single bonus, then the next person could come and pull 150 times and get 15+ bonuses.

It's RANDOM. NO GUARANTEES.

Which is why everyone thinks this thread is so silly.... it's a casino, for crying out loud!

So you wouldn't suspect anything, if we played the flip a coin game I described, and you picked heads, but I flipped tails all ten times?

The point is that it is NOT silly to have expectations based on probability. Maybe 130 pulls is not enough for you to suspect a problem with the machine. But there should be a number that would be enough. If it were thousands of pulls without a bonus, while not statistically impossible, it would be low enough probably as to be unreasonable to think it happened by chance.

Not a RCL employee, but will say this, have read some moronic posts in the past, this rates right up there with my top 10 List!.....:rolleyes::eek:

Of course it's fixed - it is a cruise ship, and they are not regulated.
