Death on Carnival Fascination

Just got off the Fascination this morning in Jacksonville. Disembarkation was delayed two hours or so due to a "medical emergency". A medical emergency announcement was made at 6:00am or so, but nothing further. Several crew members confirmed that a passenger had died but wouldn't speak of the specifics.

My intent wasn't to gossip. Just posting in case those arriving might be delayed. The amount of law enforcement aboard the ship made it seem like a little more than a natural death. As far as deaths happening on a weekly basis, I don't exactly agree to that either.

If it was your family member would you want them spreading rumors?

Then perhaps you should have worded your post better.

Maybe not on this specific ship....but...when you start to count ALL the ships that sail each week (from just FL alone) then the numbers might lead to it being true.

We had a death on our ship too. Everyone was curious what happened and who it happened to. I understand your concern because it's awful and you have vacationed with them all week! Don't know why people thought you meant anything other than curiosity and concern[emoji849]

Wow, Smyliecruising, we need people like you on Cruise Critic that can take a post with a grain of salt. JonSch7 thanks for your post there wasn't anything wrong with what you posted or the way you posted it. I live in Atlanta and it was on the news. Death is a fact of life and I am sure it happens regularly on cruise ships.

It does happen a lot. Last year on the 15 day Hawaii cruise two passenger died on the Miracle. I only knew because my dad had a heart attack and I was down in the infirmary with him. The ships doctor told me he worries more about men in there 50s. They sit behind a desk all year, go on a cruise and are up and around doing stuff that they don't normally do and they get heart attacks. He see's it a lot.

www.cruiseshipdeaths.com ?

Showing my age , it completely amazes me that there is a web site ,and an in-depth exhaustive one at that , for everything !

Yeah, learn something new on the net everyday. They even sort each article into New, Popular or Old news in case the reader is in a hurry and can't decide which one to read.

MyDB passed away on a Carnival ship in January of 2008. Carnival staff was stellar with the comfort and care provided to my SIL including letting her mom and SIL join the cruise at the first port of call and accommodating them all in a new cabin until they could arrive back in Galveston.

They were allowed to debark first, escorted by Carnival staff and we were allowed to wait in a private waiting area to meet them as they left the ship. This process does take some time because the Coroner has to take delivery of the body.

We were grateful the ship went out of Galveston and it only took 9 days for the Galveston county coroner to release the body. If they had left from or any other larger port we were told it could have taken longer than 6 weeks.

Carnival appeared to be making the same arrangements here. Disembarking was delayed so that the medical examiner could do there thing, and that the family could be allowed off first. I do wish the ship would have made an announcement that disembarking would be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Instead nothing was mentioned, and everyone was left hanging out and spreading rumors about what had happened.

it is a fairly common experience we were on a cruise when on the first day at sea we went to the pool and it was closed a man went from the hot tub to the pool and died they tried to bring him back right there at the pool with everyone around but sadly he did not survive
