ShotsnCruises Posted March 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2016 All my previous cruising experience has been on RCCL or Celebrity (my preferred line up until this point), but the hubby and I decided to splurge on a SilverSea cruise next February. I am looking for responses from people who have sailed the Caribbean on both lines. We booked SilverSea because of the itinerary and quality of cabin we could get for the money. Originally, we were looking at a 14 night out of FLL, but the itinerary wasn't great (5 sea days), and did not visit any places we hadn't been to many times before. For the price of cabin, and the all inclusiveness (drinks), there wasn't much of a difference, so....we chose SilverSea. I have always wanted to try the smaller ships. I prefer to vacation without huge crowds, but I always found the Celebrity ships to distribute the passengers very well (shore excursions are another matter). I was never much into the casino, on board activities (usually enjoyed dinner, spirit tastings, and just relaxing), or pool-side activities. My question is this: What am I going to miss that Celebrity offers that SilverSea doesn't have? This is more to mentally prepare as opposed to deciding to change our minds. Thank you in advance! micmacmissy Posted March 20, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 20, 2016 I don't think you're going to miss anything!! Husband and I are looking forward to sailing either SilverSea or Viking Ocean for our next adult cruise. The only possible drawback is that after that level of service you might not want to return to the mainstream lines! Please come back and report on this board for those of us looking to step up someday to another line!
jagoffee Posted March 21, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2016 Congratulations. Getting an equivalent Silver Seas cruises at the price of a Celebrity cruise in equivalent categories is a great deal. Enjoy. Do you mine sharing the details of which cruises and categories you compared?
Grandma Gilly Posted March 21, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 21, 2016 (edited) I don't think you will miss anything either. I would always sail on a smaller ship every time now but we are returning to Celebrity next month because of the itinerary. Rare Keith1010 Posted March 21, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 21, 2016 I have sailed both lines. What one person will miss depends on the person. If I had to guess you might miss the more elaborate entertainment found on Celebrity Ships and possibly greater choice in public venues. ShotsnCruises Posted April 6, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted April 6, 2016 Congratulations. Getting an equivalent Silver Seas cruises at the price of a Celebrity cruise in equivalent categories is a great deal. Enjoy. Do you mine sharing the details of which cruises and categories you compared? I was looking at a 14 night Celebrity out of Miami, and compared it to an 11 night out of San Juan on SS. Shorter, but Celebrity had 5 sea days, and SS none, better itinerary in my opinion. I booked a Veranda Suite on SS, and usually do Aquaspa or Junior Suite on Celebrity. Factoring in the cost of a premium drink package for 2, tips, fees, etc.... Silversea won out by a long shot.
