Wearing robes around the ship?

Recommended Posts

I work in the hotel industry, and lots people wear pjs to breakfast, I have saw few men just in boxers, no shoes very common, people just feel right at home, I get more uncomfortable then the people do, your room is where your comfy not the public areas, but who am I to say.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I don't go around cruise ships in my robe or PJ's and boxers only is definitely not acceptable.

I do go to some scrapbooking weekends at hotels where we have a PJ party at least one night of the crop. In general most of the women will roam around the hotel in PJ bottoms, tee shirts, and slippers.

Robes should not be worn in public. When I occasionally see this I just shake my head and wonder what in the world these people are thinking. I wonder, did they look in the mirror and actually think they looked good?

I doubt they are concerned about what others think of how they look. I wouldn't do it but I don't care if others do.

People spend way too much time being concerned with what strangers are doing.

Your are being polite with just "weird" ! I can think of other descriptive words. The ship is like a hotel - would people really go to breakfast or the front desk in robes and fuzzy slippers so why would they think it is acceptable on ship??

I frequently go to a hotel breakfast in my PJs. I believe in comfort and I really don't care what anyone else thinks of it.

Now I've never had a desire to wear a robe anywhere. But it's my vacation and as long as all my parts are covered, I see no reason to care what other people think of my clothing choices. I'll likely never see the people again that I run into on vacation.

Agree 100%. I've been known to be in my PJs in public at times. Definitely at 6:30a to get a coffee a few times on Freedom.

I'm a little surprised at how many people will go out in public in their nightclothes. I think some of them somehow they look attractive in those robes. Maybe others think it gives them a look of sophistication, especially when the robes don't stay closed.

On Jewel Alaska trip in August, a few people wore robes to the concierge lounge for breakfast every morning, The concierge was a young sub and I guess he would not say anything. Suite guests, I believe.

The slippers are available for purchase through Gifts and Gear. DH and I bought some a few years ago and they go with us on cruises and land vacations. :)

.

I have several pairs of RCI slippers...they used to give them to us or many times were in our cabin with our robes (many years ago)....these were once very nice but with time they became thin and cheap...we were always told to take them with us as these were something they didn't recycle.

Sometimes when I get home from a cruise or just want that cruise feeling...I'll slip them on :D

Nope, neither of these. Just find them comfy and when only going out for a bit I see no reason to change clothes.

Ok, I remember in the past - there was some discussions that would pop up from time to time about proper attire(in various scenarios), and often the subject of robes would come up. I saw the other thread about robes only being given now upon request unless you are in a suite, etc etc..

But, I gotta say...

On our last cruise (2 weeks ago), we were very early on the ship (11:30am, or so), and went directly to the guest services area to reserve our dining package with the restaurant manager .. anyways... As we are there, I saw this lady walk up and stand in line at GS - wearing her stateroom robe, complete with slippers which seemed to match (I don't remember any slippers coming with the robes?)... I had a good internal chuckle.

But, then I asked myself - is this weird to wear a robe around the ship? It seemed out of place on the Promenade - but if I saw it at the pool, I likely would think nothing...

Is there some inside joke/stories about certain types of people wearing robes around the ship (for breakfast, or to shop ?)

Or, I am being weird on this? We had robes - but I only wore them getting out of the shower - or on the balcony in the morning - never outside of the cabin - but that's just me?

We find it tacky.

If it's good enough for the cruise director.........

OMG good thing they didn't fall out. I don't understand why people would wear robes outside of their rooms while in public. Some say they are more comfortable. Then why don't they buy more comfortable clothing that isn't a robe or pjs to wear in public? So what if they are on vacation? Are they that lazy to change? I usually just go with the flow, but to me this is just classless.

Going to the Spa no problem. Going to the Buffets, I have a problem! Respect others and

they will respect you! Bon Voyage!

That's a great word for it. Some people just have none whatsoever.

And how would anyone know if that was the reason someone was there wearing a robe? Once there is a legitimate reason for an action all bets are off.

When you walk back to your cabin from the spa/pool deck in your robe just to find our you´ve lost your card... Do you think it would be more appropriate to hang your robe at the door handle of your cabin and walk up to guest relations in your swimming attire (or even worse ... )?:D:rolleyes:

Sure, no one would know why you´re wearing your robe there.

Although wearing a bathrobe in public is not MY particular style, it doesn't bother me when "older" people wear them during the day, nor does it bother me when "younger" people wear them at night to the "White Party."

People who matter, don't mind.

People who mind, don't matter.

The world would be a better place if people were more accepting and less judgmental.

Shucks, I need a Coca Cola!!!

I've gone to the buffet in pajamas and a robe...

I didn't want to trouble the room attendant or have room service wake my Mother when they forgot to leave ice.

I have gone to DL in pajamas...Mom needs her double espresso to roll out of bed in the morning. (She doesn't like the "regular" ship coffee, and it's a small thing I can do.)

My pajama top says "I woke up like this."

If you have a problem with any of that...then you have a problem with someone that is trying to be considerate towards people that are trying to serve you...people that try to be nice to Mom... or Beyonce.

You never know the intent or the motive behind the actions of a stranger.

Unless it affects you adversely in some way...just smile and enjoy your cruise.

Never like to see people walking around in their robes.

Often not the prettiest sites.

Keith

I've seen people walking around the ships who I WISHED had had a robe on. ;)

My DH (RIP) have in the past used our robes to go to the hot tubs in the evening. It can be a bit chilly climbing out of them at night.

What should he have said? I have never seen anything written about RCI having a rule against what those folks were wearing.

I get up early in the morning. It is not at all unusual to see someone in the Cafe Promenade wearing a robe and picking up some coffee and something to eat. I just could not care any less but it isn't unusual for people around here to care about stuff that impacts me not at all. Just be clean and don't stink and I'm good.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember seeing bathtubs and/or shower stalls in the MDR, or in the Windjammer, or in the Casino, or near the Guest Relations desk, or in the theater (.... forgive my confusion...) but why do I see some fellow passengers arriving at these venues... wearing their bathrobes? ;)
